Ashford is the largest and most rural borough in Kent with a fast growing population which has more than trebled in the last 40 years. Think of Ashford and you think of a strong progressive borough in the heart of the Garden of England, with a proud heritage and excellent connectivity. Ashford is just 38 minutes from London by high speed train, has direct Eurostar services to Paris and Brussels with Dover and the Channel Tunnel close by. But there is much more to discover... It is also a vibrant sustainable town with Major plans coming to fruition to ensure Ashford remains a great place to live, work and do business. Home to picturesque villages and the market town of Tenterden in the High Weald, known as the “Jewel of the Weald”, not to mention the protected landscape of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with miles of stunning countryside in a protected landscape. Ashford’s ‘green corridor’ is made up of parks, recreation grounds and green areas alongside its rivers; the Great Stour floodplain runs through urban Ashford and provides valuable green spaces that support local wildlife, perfect for exploring by bike or on foot. Ashford Cycling is a great way to get around Ashford and over the last few years numerous new routes have been built. Well over 50km of safe traffic-free cycle paths means the majority of households around the town are within very easy reach of the train station and the town centre. In particular the new cycle and footpath across Willesborough Dykes provides a safe and pleasant off-road route linking the communities of Park Farm, to the Designer Outlet, the train station and the town centre. Relaxing green spaces such as the Warren, Hoads Wood, the Ashford Community Woodland and the Singleton Environment Centre are all within easy walking and cycling distance. National Route 18 of the National Cycle Network is the spine of Ashford’s walking and cycling network through the town linking Singleton in the west and Little Burton in the east. Southeastern operates one of the busiest rail networks in the country, and during peak periods, many services are crowded with some passengers obliged to stand. For this reason, Southeastern’s current cycle policy is that cycles are allowed outside of these hours on services to London – that’s Monday to Friday 07:00-10:00 and leaving London between 16:00 and 19:00.
