ROSARY WHIRLWIND BRITISH ISLES – OCTOBER 2020 For Faith, Life and Peace October is traditionally the month dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. Once again Catholics across England, Wales, Scotland and the Isles are invited to take up their rosaries for an intensive Rosary Whirlwind Mission as we pray together for Faith, Life and Peace during these difficult and uncertain times. Full details on the Parish website This year, WORLD MISSION SUNDAY falls on 18th October. On this day the whole Church unites in prayer for its missionary activity, and in collecting funds to support Catholic communities across the world living in situations of poverty and privation. The need is even greater this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in countries with inadequate financial and medical resources. The theme chosen by Pope Francis for this year's World Mission Sunday is ‘Here I am, send me!’ In these difficult and uncertain times, the Holy Father encourages us with these words: "God continues to look for those he can send into the world, and to the nations, to bear witness to his love, his deliverance from sin and death, and his liberation from evil." All donations go to the Universal Solidarity Fund in order to meet the spiritual and material needs of peoples and churches throughout the world. Please do all you can to celebrate this day in solidarity with the whole Church. (CTS 10 MINUTE DIARY)

TWENTY SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME READ: MATTHEW 21:33-43 MEDITATE Jesus was crucified because he was seen as a threat to the establishment. Yet, at the same time his rejection became the means of his greatest victory - he rose from death, forgiving his torturers! With Jesus we can accept our pain; with him, we can forgive our enemies.

LET US PRAY

Lord Jesus, allow me to always see you present in my life, especially when I am tempted to run away from my cross. In the face of any forgiveness, bitterness, anger and shame,

give me the joy of conquering my doubts by remembering that you are alive and risen! Amen.

ACT Praying with images is helpful. When life seems hard, get hold of a crucifix and gaze upon its image as you speak to Jesus in prayer. Speak to him about the things that you find hard to accept.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: LOTTO BONUS BALL: Congratulations to all the winners of 2019/20; this fundraising initiative raised £1534.00 for Parish funds. Sincere gratitude to those members who donated their winnings to Parish funds during the past few months, your generosity is very much appreciated during these uncertain times; a total of £239.50 was received. Thank you to those who renewed their membership and to those who responded to the invitation and joined; the new draw year commenced yesterday, 3rd October, your new number is displayed on the website or available from Elizabeth. Good luck!

PIETY STALL: new stock available shortly including Christmas cards. Should you wish to purchase anything please contact Margaret Hughes 07510 518791 who is happy to assist.

Response to the Psalm: The vineyard of the Lord is the House of Israel. Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, alleluia! I call you friends, says the Lord because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father. Alleluia!

‘Let the Word of Christ, in all its richness, find a home in you. Teach each other, and advise each other, in all wisdom. With gratitude in your hearts sing psalms and hymns and inspired songs to God, and whatever you say or do, let it be in the name of the Lord Jesus, in thanksgiving to God the Father through him.’ (Col 3:16)

(CTS 10 MINUTE DIARY) TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

READ: MATTHEW 22:1-14 MEDITATE In baptism, we are given a white garment, a sign that we are united with Christ like a bride to her husband. Jesus is the bridegroom and we, his Church, are his bride. This marriage is consummated at Mass in Holy Communion, Those who reject Jesus’s love cannot enter.

LET US PRAY

Lord Jesus, may I always be wholly devoted to you in Holy Communion. Give me the grace to love, honour and serve you

both in my neighbour and the Eucharist. Allow me to be a tabernacle for your presence,

carrying your love and mercy to everyone I meet. Amen. ACT Make a point of renewing and deepening your Eucharistic devotion whenever you find yourself at Mass. At other times, try to spend time in prayer, focusing on receiving Jesus both in His Word and in Holy Communion. CAFOD HARVEST FAST DAY – 9TH OCTOBER 2020 As we move into autumn and towards the season of harvest celebration, it may seem in this present climate, since the COVID-19 pandemic that there is not a lot to celebrate. But we are reminded of God’s bounty – the gifts of the earth, God’s endless compassion and the love we share with one another. As our Holy Father Pope Francis reminds us: “a virus that does not recognise barriers, borders or cultural or political distinctions must be faced with a love without barriers, borders or distinctions.” As God walks alongside us always, so too CAFOD walks alongside those most affected by the virus, listening and responding to peoples plight with love. This year the focus of the Harvest Family Fast Day is “Survive, Rebuild, Heal” and CAFOD are launching a series of online events and resources so that we can all come together as one family and bring hope and help to our brothers and sisters affected by the coronavirus. All resources can be found at: http://cafod.org.uk/Fundraise/Family-Fast-Day Because of the COVID-19 pandemic many families both at home and overseas face chronic food shortages, malnutrition and poverty, more than ever CAFOD need our financial help. Unfortunately we cannot have our normal CAFOD parish collection however, you can donate online, or text CAFOD to 70085 (to donate £10) or by cheque marked ‘Family Fast’ to: CAFOD Office, Romero House, 55 Westminster Bridge Road. London. SE1 7JB

Response to the Psalm: In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell for ever and ever. Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, alleluia! The Word was made flesh and lived among us; to all who did accept him he gave power to become children of God. Alleluia!

‘The Word was made flesh and lived among us; to all who did accept Him he gave power to become children of God.’

(Gospel Acclamation Twenty Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time)
