INTRODUCTIONThankyouforpurchasingthisFocusriteRedNet1.

RedNet 1 is a multichannel, bidirectional analogue interface for use with a RedNet digital audionetworkingsystem.

RedNetisapowerful,lowlatency,digitalaudionetworkingsystemdesignedspecificallyformusic,recordingstudioandbroadcastapplications.ItisbasedonAudinate’sDante™,awell-establishedaudionetworkingtechnologyknownforitsextremerobustness.Dante-andtheRedNetsystem-iscapableoftransportingupto512channelsofbidirectionalaudio(at48kHzsamplerate)overasingleGigabitEthernetlink.ThenumberofchannelsavailableinyourDAWwilldependonthehostmethodbeingused.

RedNet1provideseightanalogue inputsandeightanalogueoutputs.A-DandD-Aconversion is24-bitatsampleratesofupto192kHz,andupto119dBofdynamicrangeisachievable.JetPLL™technologyisemployedtominimiseconversionjitter.

Theanalogueinputsandoutputsareelectronicallybalancedon25-pinDsubconnectors.Theunitcanbeconfiguredwith0dBFSequatingtoeither+18dBuor+24dButoconformtotheEBUorSMPTE-RP155standardsrespectively.

ThefrontpanelcontainsasetofLEDsconfirmingnetworkstatus,samplerate,referencelevelandper-channelsignallevel.

RedNet1requires2Uofverticalrackspaceandatleast350mmofrackdepth,toallowforcables.RedNet1weighs4.12kgandforinstallationsinafixedenvironment(e.g.,astudio),thefrontpanelmountingscrewswillprovideadequatesupport. If theunitsare tobeused inamobilesituation(e.g.,flight-casedfortouring,etc.),considerationshouldbegiventousingsidesupportrailswithintherack.

RedNet1generatesnosignificantheat,and isnormallycooledbynaturalconvection, thoughaninternalcoolingfanisfitted.Werecommendthattheunitshouldnotbeusedinlocationswheretheambienttemperatureisgreaterthan30°C.However,ifthisisunavoidable,thefancanbeturnedonandofffromRedNetControl.

Ventilationisviaslotsintheenclosureatbothsides.DonotmountRedNet1immediatelyaboveanyotherequipmentwhichgeneratessignificantheat,forexample,apoweramplifier.Also,ensurethatwhenmountedinarack,thesideventsarenotobstructed.

Power requirementsRedNet1ismains-powered.Itincorporatesa‘Universal’powersupply,whichcanoperateonanyACmainsvoltagefrom100Vto240V.TheACconnectionismadeviaastandard3-pinIECconnectorontherearpanel.AmatingIECcableissuppliedwiththeunit,whichshouldbeterminatedwithamainsplugofthecorrecttypeforyourcountry.

TheACpowerconsumptionoftheRedNet1is30VA.

PleasenotethattherearenofusesinRedNet1,orotheruser-replaceablecomponentsofanytype.PleasereferallservicingissuestotheCustomerSupportTeam(see“CustomerSupportandUnitServicing”onpage14).

OTHER REDNET SYSTEM COMPONENTSTheRedNethardwarerangeincludesvarioustypesofI/OinterfaceandaPCIedigitalaudiointerfacecardwhichisinstalledinthesystem’shostcomputer.AlltheI/Ounitscanbeconsideredas“Break-Out” (and/or “Break-In”) boxes to/from the network, and all are built in mains-powered, 2U 19”rackmountinghousings.Therearealso threesoftware items,RedNetControl (seebelow),DanteControllerandDanteVirtualSoundcard.

USING REDNET CONTROLAvirtualdepictionofRedNet1willappearon-screeninRedNetControlwhenaunitisincludedintheactivesystem.

Metering:Each inputandoutputhas3virtualLEDscorresponding to the levels indicatedby thetricolour LEDs on the physical front panel. These illuminate at -42 dBFS, -6 dBFS and 0 dBFSrespectively.
