User Guide:
Skitch (App)
Firstly, locate the Skitch icon and
launch the app by pressing it once
This is the homepage.
At the bottom there are several
options of how you would like to
begin creating a new document.
You can scroll through by touching
and sliding along the screen.
In this picture we have selected
the ‘photos’ option. This will let you
select a photo from your camera
roll.
Here, we have selected the ‘Map’
option.
(You will need an internet
connection for this)
You have two choices – ‘nearby’
gives you a map of you current
location.
‘Address’ lets you type in an
address and find a map of a
specific location.
Once you have loaded the maps,
you can annotate them.
This could potentially be used as
part of a Geography based lesson
or as part of an ‘about me’ project
(eg ‘where I live’).
It could also be used as a way to
plan trips out as part of ‘life skills’
based activities.
The ‘Draw’ option allows you to
have a completely blank page.
You can then add drawings and
text to create a document.
This is the ‘settings’ menu.
There aren’t many options to
customise, but it might be worth
exploring to see if you find anything
helpful.
In this picture we have selected
the ‘camera’ option. This will let
you take a photo using the IPad
camera.
This is what we will use for this
User Guide.
Locate the image you want to
photograph and take a photo
using the white button on the
right hand side.
I have taken a photo of a (very
rough!) worksheet.
Once you take the photo it will take
you to this page.
The red arrow will appear – this can
be used or deleted.
If you want to use it and add some
text, simply click on the ‘add text’
option. You will then be able to type
a comment/sentence/word.
The arrow can be moved and re-
sized by clicking and dragging on
the blue dots.
You will then need to open the
‘more tools’ option to continue
editing the document.
Once you have opened the menu,
you will see some new options.

the answer with the keyboard.
When you done the typing, a blue
box appears around the text. You
can drag the blue dot to resize the
text.
Above the word there is a blue ‘a’ symbol.
Click on this to select whether the text has a
border or not.
There will also be a delete option
at the bottom of the page

To add freehand drawings/writing,
open the ‘insert’ menu on the right
hand side. Select the pen tool.
Then simply draw/write anywhere
on the screen.
You can also use the highlighter

Again, simply draw on the screen
to use the tool.
To crop the page:
Click on the icon at the top of
the page.
Move the white highlighted box by
clicking and dragging.
When you have selected the correct
area, click on ‘crop image’ at the top
right hand corner.
If you no longer want to crop the
image, click on cancel at the top left
hand corner.
The cross in the top left hand corner
will give you the options to either
‘discard changes’, which will close
the document without saving OR
‘save to photos’ which will save the
document to your IPad camera role.
Click on this icon in the top
right hand corner to save or
export you work.
Once you have done this you see
the screen opposite.
At the bottom you can slide between
the different options by clicking and
dragging.
You can select the ‘share’ option
and email the document directly.
(You will need email set up on your
IPad)
You could also select the ‘save’
option which will allow you to save
the document as a picture to your
IPad camera role.
This can then either be downloaded
to a computer or emailed.
There is also an option to add a
caption to your saved document.
You may want to use this to give
it a title or write your name and
the date.
A keyboard will pop up when it is
selected so you can type the
caption.
When finished click ‘done’ on the
keyboard.
This shows the finished document
with a caption ready to save to
Camera roll or email.
If you decide you would like to edit
the document more before you
save, just click cancel in the top
left hand corner.
