tantra Mesh Configuration tantra Mesh software is a robust and an intuitive solution that allows multiple access points to easily form a wireless mesh network with minimal configuration.

tantra Mesh Features • Platform agnostic: Mesh functions effectively and efficiently on any platform

such as Windows, Linux, Mac, and Unix. It integrates and interoperates on any platform.

• Robust and highly secure: Mesh is robust and secure. It prevents rogue users from accessing your mesh network.

• Co-existence of wired and Wi-Fi access points: Mesh allows the co-existence of wired and Wi-Fi access points. The root node (access point) is connected to the internet service provider (ISP) through wide area network (WAN). Other access points are connected to each other through Wi-Fi.

• Seamless connection of Wi-Fi clients: Home users access the internet seamlessly after the mesh is set up. Wi-Fi connectivity is ensured to all users at home without any hassle.

Components of tantra Mesh tantra Mesh has three main components and are as follows:

• Mesh Node: A mesh node is an access point that is configured to connect to the root or exit node.

• Root/Exit Node: Root node or exit node are access point devices that are connected to the Home gateway through Ethernet WAN. Root node is the primary access point which establishes a connection with other access point devices to form a mesh network. Exit node is the fundamental access point device to which other access points get connected to form a mesh network.

• Home Gateway: The ISP provides this device to enable access to internet at home or office. In certain deployments, mesh exit node will be your home gateway.

Access Point Modes tantra Mesh offers two modes for an access point and are as follows:

• Gateway Mode: Root node is set up as a gateway and all mesh nodes are in bridge mode. Gateway root provides IP addresses to the mesh nodes. Only when the home gateway does not provide DHCP support, this mode can be used on the root node.

• Bridge Mode: All nodes including the root node is set up in bridge mode. The home gateway supplies the IP address to all nodes.

Minimum Requirements for tantra Mesh Deployment 1. There must be a minimum of two access points, one exit node and one mesh node to initiate

the formation of a mesh network.

2. WAN connection must be available for the exit node that is connected to the home gateway or is configured as a home gateway.

3. The access point connected to the home gateway must function as an exit node. Other access points placed in different locations of the house must function as mesh nodes.

Configuring tantra Mesh The home users must follow the below steps to ensure uninterrupted Wi-Fi connectivity using the Cloud configuration portal.

1. Create the home site.

2. Add devices to the home site. There is no limit to the number of devices that can be added to the home site.

3. Under Network section on the UI, ensure Enable Mesh is True.

4. The first access point must be connected to the LAN port on the home gateway.

5. Place other access points in different rooms of the house. Remove these access points from the WAN and connect it only to the power cable for the mesh to function effectively

6. The access point connected to the LAN port on the home gateway acts as an exit node. This node establishes a connection to the WAN and initiates the formation of a mesh network with access points in other rooms of the house. Other access points placed in different locations of the house act as bridge nodes.

7. The mesh SSID that is created after the formation of a mesh network ensures the authentication of access points placed in different rooms of the house.

Note: In certain configurations, home gateway can also be a root node. It is configured as a gateway while configuring the network settings for mesh in tantra cloud application.

Note: Initially, all the access points in the house are connected to WAN.

8. A WPA2 security key is created to ensure that other access points placed in your neighborhood do not access the mesh network that has been created in your house.

9. Based on the RSSI and the distance between the access points in different rooms of the house, an uninterrupted Wi-Fi connectivity is established.

tantra Mesh Placement The Mesh Statistics allows you to view the current placement status of your mesh nodes and determine if the mesh nodes are in the ideal RSSI ranges to provide good coverage.

Follow the below steps to verify and move your mesh nodes to be at ideal distance.

1. The Mesh Statistics section provides information on the Mesh Placement.

2. In the Wi-Fi Management, navigate to the Access Point page.

3. Click the Profile settings drop-down on the top-right corner and select Wi-Fi Analytics.

4. Select Summary to view the Mesh Statistics.

5. Verify the placement status and move your mesh nodes to be at ideal distance.

For more details on the device issues and recommended resolutions, refer the Device Issues section.

6. The Wi-Fi Utilization section displays the utilization chart for both 2.4 and 5 GHz radio frequencies.

The Wi-Fi Utilization chart displays the following information:

− Interference: Displays the percentage of bandwidth that is unusable due to non-Wi-Fi interference from another source (Bluetooth, cordless phone, radar, microwave, and so on).

− Available: Displays all the idle or available bandwidth that exists real-time (on the pie chart) or existed during the time period chosen for the histogram chart.

− Interfering Wi-Fi: Displays the bandwidth used, as a percentage, for devices (clients and APs) operating on the same channel (defined as an Overlapping Basic Service Set (OBSS)).

− Client data: Displays the bandwidth used in an Independent Basic Service Set (IBSS) environment.

The primary differences between the frequencies are the coverage and speed. The 2.4 GHz provides longer range coverage but transmits data at slower speeds. The 5 GHz provides less coverage but transmits data at faster speeds.

Wi-Fi Analytics Features

Band Steering and AP Steering Band steering and AP steering described in this section are considered post-association. After the client associates with an AP, the system checks and performs steering based on the configured parameters.

Band Steering Band steering allows the client to move to a more appropriate radio band. Initially, the client joins either on 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz radio band and uses the following options to steer between radio bands:

− Post Association Utilization Limit

− Enable RSSI Thresholds

− Enable MCS Steer Thresholds

Post Association Utilization Limit

When the client reaches the configured 2.4 GHz Post Association Utilization Limit or 5 GHz Post Association Utilization Limit, it automatically moves to the other radio band.

Enable RSSI Thresholds

When the client RSSI is lower than the RSSI Downgrade Threshold, the client moves to 2.4 GHz and when the client RSSI is greater than the configured RSSI Upgrade Threshold, the client moves to 5 GHz.

Enable MCS Steer Thresholds

When the client MCS is lower than the configured MCS Percentage Steer Threshold, it automatically moves to the other radio band.

AP Steering For AP steering, there should be more than one AP available. When the client moves away from one AP and on reaching the configured AP Client Steer RSSI Level, the client steers to the other AP.

Channel Optimization Scan active channel and other channels and determine which would offer minimal interference and best performance and change appropriately. If cannot separate channels of neighboring APs, then adjust power to minimize interference.
