The uses and gratification theory is basically consumers using the media to
satisfy their needs, and the media meeting those needs.
These needs can be split up into four groups:
Diversion, personal relationships, personal identity and surveillance.
This presentation will be concentrating on music magazines. And the example I will
be using is vibe magazine
Consumer needs:Consumers use magazines to escape from everyday life. They want to read
things that don’t usually happen. People may read magazines in their
leisure time.
vibe provides the reader with information that would make the reader want to read more in their spare time. And buy the magazine as often as possible.

Or they read magazines to become part of a social group.

of what’s going on in celebrities lives, and also what’s new in the
market, they update themselves by buying the magazine.
