-by Dave Kies
-solution fluencyStudents determine:• are the parts too hard for any of us?• who has the best upper range?• who has the best lower range?• what piece do we enjoy playing the most?• how is our progress during rehearsals?
-information fluencyStudents search for recordings of their piece using:
-collaboration fluency
ritard accelerando crescendo
-groups ask each other about musical terms, notes, markings, etc.-groups will listen to and critique each other to help determine areas needing improvement
often times students will use analogies to explain the feeling of a particular part of a piece of music
“I think this part sounds like a big heavy elephant walking.”
-creativity fluency
-groups will record one of their practices with an mp3 recorder-they listen to and evaluate the recording to determine what needs more practice
-media fluency
-students are not assigned a leadership role
-these leadership roles happen automatically as invariably a student steps up to get their group motivated to practice
