What you need

PC installed with MS Office and Adobe Presenter Add-In

A high quality mic.

Your power point presentation with animations as required.

A script - Optional – but you will probably find it saves time to write one as against add-lib

Mic recommendation

In case you are looking for a microphone for either creating presentations of using during a webinar, the Blue Snowball comes highly recommended ($70 from Amazon)

This mic comes with the stand and has three different pattern modes: Cardioid mode; Cardioid mode with -10 dB PAD: and Omnidirectional mode

The Snowball requires no complicated drivers to operate; simply plug it into your computer's USB port with the included USB cable, calibrate the microphone with your operating system, and you're ready to record. It is compatible with Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP (Home and Professional), and Mac OS X

I would strongly recommend buying a pop filter too.

Download and Installation

Adobe Presenter v7 can be downloaded from the Adobe web site: http://www.adobe.com/products/presenter/

Supported OS: Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2, Windows 7, Windows Vista™ Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise (certified for 32-bit editions only)

Supported PowerPoint versions: Microsoft® PowerPoint 2002 (XP) or 2003 or 2007 or 2010

Adobe Presenter 7.0 has several update patches: 7.01, 7.02, 7.05 and 7.06. These contain some critical fixes and must be installed in order!

Adobe Presenter works fine on Windows7, as long as the MSXML4 libraries are installed, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973688 for more information.

A Note regarding Adobe Presenter v6. This version can be used with Microsoft Office 2003 and earlier and it is free to install and run. I.e. Adobe Presenter v6 can be installed with no serial number being required.

Download and Installation

Installation Run the Adobe Presenter setup routine and follow the instructions. Once installed, you

can access Adobe Presenter 7 from a new Ribbon tab within PowerPoint 2007, as shown

The Adobe Presenter tab of the Ribbon comprises seven groups: [ Presentation ][ Audio ][ Video ][Flash][ Quiz ][Application][Help]

We will concentrate on the Audio section.

Create Audio

The Audio group in Adobe Presenter has four tools:1. Record

2. Import

3. Sync

4. Edit

RECORD Record allows to record a narration for the presentation slide. When you select record you first

see the microphone test dialog box.

Create Audio

RECORD audio on a slide

Begin recording audio. Clicking Next >> advances the presentation to the next slide.

Clicking Next Animation allows you to time PowerPoint animations to your narration.

If there are no animations on the slide, click Stop Recording, then Next>> to start narrating the next slide.

Note you can time your animations later using the Sync option if needed (I prefer this method)

RECORD with Script text

Select View Script ... To expand the Record window and reveal a script box. Type in the box if needed

Select Import Notes to make use of the slide notes in this script view. (suggested workflow is to create your script in the slide notes before going to Adobe Presenter)

Hello and welcome….

Create Audio

Import - allows to import sound files per slide.

Supported file formats are .wav or .mp3

This method is useful if you either don't have Adobe Presenter installed (but know some one else who does) or if you work on Mac which doesn't support Adobe Presenter

Create Audio

Sync - allows you to synchronize the audio file to animation events in a slide.

I would recommend timing all your animations AFTER recording audio using the Sync tool

Note you can fine tune animations in the Edit tool too.

Create Audio

Edit - allows to edit out mistakes, ummms and awkward pauses.

Use the space bar to start and stop playback. However, stop will force the timeline to spring back to where you started playing from

Use the pause button to stop the timeline blue play bar at the current position

The blue markers are animation events, the red bar is a new slide. Both can be retimed with respect to audio.

Edit the audio by dragging a selection in the timeline. Use cut, copy and paste to edit the audio. Silence and further recordings can be added via the Insert menu.

Folder structure and files created with Presenter

When you create a voice-over using Adobe Presenter v7 another folder is created to contain the audio files.

This folder has the exact same name as the Power Point file and lives in the same location.

When sending these files on it is probably best to zip up the parent folder.
