Using Databases for Your Senior Project
Boston Public Library eCards
1. Go to http://www.bpl.org 2. Click on "My Account."
After you've clicked on "My Account"
Click the "Get a BPL eCard" button.
Once you arrive here,
You will need to fill out the following information.
(Pay special attention to the fields with stars next to them.)
By selecting "I accept," I am affirming that
We are now ready to search the BPL's collection of Electronic
Resources!
Click on the A-Z List
Group 1 will explore Academic OneFile.
Group 2 will take a look at JSTOR.
Group 3 will search all databases.
Group 4 will use Google Scholar.
(Be sure to use the BPL's Google Scholar link.)
You will see this screen first.
Answer the following questions when you return to the larger
group. 1. What search terms/search string did you use?
2. List the name of an article that you think you could use.
3. Did you find using databases to be similar to or different from using the regular Internet?
Using databases is tricky, but....
1. Databases count as print resources.
2. You will need to know how to use electronic databases for college research. 3. Citing databases is easy if you use NoodleTools. 4. Like everything else, using databases becomes easier with practice.
