IRS Data Retrieval ToolBeginning February 1, 2012, The Department of

Education will implement a new tool to automatically fill in income information on the 2012-2013 FAFSA.

Applicants who are eligible to use the IRS DRT process are linked to the IRS Website.

Each applicant must have their FAFSA PIN number in order to transfer all income information onto the FAFSA.

The IRS DRT process will be enhanced to more effectively encourage users to link to and transfer data from the IRS

What is the Purpose for Using this Tool? By using this tool, it provides a easier way of

providing accurate income information on the FAFSA.

Applicants that use this tool are more likely to not be selected for verification by the Department of Education.

This tool provides a easier way of completing the FAFSA.
