Start by copying and pasting your essay into the Writing Reviser.

You will have to click edit and then paste. Your mouse right click won’t work. Click next to continue.

It’s time to begin collecting screenshots. You can copy and paste your screen shots to

one Word document or PowerPoint presentation or you can upload them individually. You will submit your screen shots as an assignment (separate from your essay revision).

There will be several screen shots required, so it’s probably best to copy and paste them to a Word Document or PowerPoint presentation.

Go to the Course Documents “How To” folder for a refresher on creating screen shots.

The first screen shot that you will take is of your statistics. This page pops up immediately so make sure you turn off any pop up blockers. Scroll down so that

all of your statistics are showing before you capture your screen shot.

We will focus on Areas to Check for Parallelism, Simple Sentences and Subject-verb openings. Copy and paste this

screen shot or save it.

Click the X to close this box.

The first thing we want to revise is sentence structure.

Click on the Tools dropdown on the menu ribbon. Next click on Sentence List. This will bring up a list with your sentences numbered.

Now, verify that each numbered sentence is a complete sentence.

Revise each fragment by adding missing parts (subject or verb) or by combining it with another sentence.

Click on Focus under the Big Picture menu.

Click on Thesis. Next, highlight

your thesis statement and click submit.

This is your next screen shot. Copy and paste it or save it. Afterward, read

the results of your thesis statement analysis. Clicking on the words thesis statement will bring up a refresher on the purpose and form of a thesis statement.

Use the questions to guide your revision of your thesis statement.

Click on Clarity in the Closer Look Menu. Click on parallelism.

Next, click on Find Parallelism.

Take a screen shot of the results.

The writing reviser has highlighted areas where parallelism errors could exist. Check the words on both sides of the arrows to make sure they are parallel with each other. Make corrections

by typing on the draft in the Writing Reviser.

Click on the Closer Look tab to open the menu.

Choose Variety from the menu.

Under Variety select Sentences.

Click Find Simple Sentences. Your simple sentences will be highlighted.

Take a screen shot of this page.

Read the information under Results.

Now, click on the word Structure to learn how to vary your sentence structure.

Revise your simple sentences as needed in your draft.

Now click Openings under Sentences.

Read the information in the Variety information box.

Click Find Subj. Verb Openings.

Your sentences that begin with subject –verb combinations will be highlighted.

Now click on the word Openings to learn how to vary your sentence beginnings.

Choose at least one of your subj. verb opening sentences and change it to one of the openings listed in the box.

Revise other sentences as needed.

Make any final revisions to your essay in the reviser.

Save your revisions using either the File dropdown menu or by copying and pasting your revised essay into another Word document.

Submit your essay through the SafeAssignment tab by clicking View/Submit.
