Nico International took up another challenging repair project and as always proved its professionalism by successfully meeting the tight repair schedule. The project involved constant in-terface and co-ordination between multiple agencies and functions which were professionally managed and executed by the ship repair team in a professional, enthusias-tic and safe manner. Word from our Director It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the fi rst edition of our newsletter, “Beyond Horizons”, the name taken from the Nico slogan “Achievements Beyond Horizons”.This slogan, and its use in our newsletter, is a clear message of our ambitions for Nico – always looking beyond the horizon at how we can provide best value services to our clients through the best people in the business, our people, using best practices. There are times when this involves change, where we will take a new course to the horizon and beyond it, and in recent years there has certainly been some rough weather around which to navigate! I believe however that, in time, we will look back on the last four years and realise that the experience of the voyage made us stronger, both as members of a great team and as individuals. As Ramadan is almost upon us, all that remains for me to do is to wish you all “Ramadan Kareem”.Thank you and stay safe,

Twin Disc business unit has successfully supplied and commissioned propulsion system for 18.5 meter High Speed Stealth Assault and Special Operations Craft built by ADM Shipyard. Our scope of supply included entire propulsion package from Twin Disc - Quickshift Marine Transmissions, Arneson Surface Drives, Rolla Propellers complete with Power Commander Control System and Master Trim. This will be the fi rst Master Trim installation for Twin Disc in this region. Designed for top speed of 75 knots this boat provides technological edge to UAE

Coast Guards fl eet, which has an ambitious new vessel development program. Though not the cheapest surface drive in the market, Arneson has built a reputation in the Naval/Coast Guard market worldwide with numerous successful installations. In addition to this project, Specialist Services Division is also in discussion with other regional Coast Guards for similar requirements in their respective countries.

Turbocharger Division added another feather in Nico’s cap by providing their services to CMA CGM’s vessel MARCO POLO. Being Authorized Service Centre for Mitsubishi MET turbochargers in the Middle East, we were asked to attend the vessel along with MHI representative for Main Engine Turbocharger overhaul during the month of March. MARCO POLO is the biggest vessel in CMA CGM’s fl eet and is currently the world’s largest containership since its maiden voyage last year, 7th of November 2012 in Ningbo, China. It was a remarkable experience for our turbocharger service team, in their own words ‘the ship really looks amazing”!

Dart won a contract to supply Cathelco’s Marine Growth Protection System & Anti Fouling System for Jack-up rigs that are currently being built by Lamprell Energy Ltd. Lamprell is UAE based leading provider of diversifi ed engineering and contracting services to the onshore and off shore oil & gas and renewable energy industries and has been our regular customer for many years.

EXPANSION PLANS Nico International has been o ering vibration analysis services to many leading marine companies around the world. Till now we were using a conventional analyser Entek IRD for analysing rotating machinery. As market opportunities increase we believe it is important to upgrade our facilities to meet the growing demand. We have upgraded the vibration monitoring & data analyser equipment to include state-of-the-art features such as dual channels mode, web reporting and better safety. Upgrading to Vibxpert Ex Version will help us measure vibrations from identifi ed measuring points and to support software generated trend and deviation reports. To get more out of our new facilities, we have also acquired a separate Octave band sound analyser to measure and determine noise levels more accurately. We are confi dent these upgrades will improve our quality of service and will put us in a better position to tap into new opportunities as they emerge. Our business is expanding at an impressive rate and investment in upgrading our facilities will help us in realizing our vision of creating a world class company that transcends physical barriers to o er fi nest ship repair services to companies around the world.

Nico International has successfully com-pleted 67 di erent projects for Maersk Line in the fi rst half of 2013 making Maersk Line our top client for the year. These in-clude refl agging of eight container ves-sels, last of which was completed in the month of June. Maersk has used almost all our services and we remain their preferred contractor in this region. Some notable ser-vices provided by us include.

• Hydro-blasting/ painting of cargo holds• Auxiliary engine overhaul• On-deck steel renewal• Repair of winches for gangway• Anchor wash piping• Entry cell guide repair• Exhaust fan and motor repair• Fabrication of forward windlass cover• Hatch cover guide repair• Motor repair• Steam piping renewal• Blasting and painting of plates, etc.

Bernhard Schulte Ship Management (BSSM) was created in 2008 by combining four ship management organizations already owned by the Schulte Group into one integrated maritime services company. Since then Nico International has been working very closely with them to provide our range of services to their fl eet. Last year, BSSM further reinforced our relationship by appointing Nico International as their preferred service provider in this region. This new status proves trust BSSM has in us and gives us an edge over our competition.Since beginning of this year we have completed several repair projects for BSSM, especially in Oman where we provided afl oat services to fi ve of their product tankers. Major work done involved void space & engine room frame reinforcement, non-destructive inspection, cargo hold bilge educator SW pipe & sea water cooling pipe line renewal.

Our Boiler Division has recently been awarded a three years maintenance contract by Dubai Aluminum (DUBAL). Doosan Division shares a close working relationship with DUBAL, and this contract magnifi es the mutual trust and credibility DUBAL has in quality services provided by our boiler division. In addition to this contract, Doosan continues to provide their usual service support to them and won a project for renewing piping on three boilers. This time bound project has to be completed within the next three months.

Workshop completed a contract for Frank’s In-ternational to fabricate and supply tong hang-ing frame, which will fi nally be used on a rig currently operating in Caspian Sea. Specifi c tasks included fabrication and supply of lifting bracket, carrying out of MPI weld joints, exter-nal abrasive “near-white metal blast” blasting and painting, assembly of hydraulic compo-nents to the frame, load testing according to the procedure provided by the client, hose fi t-tings, sca olding and many more related jobs. The project also involved initial and fi nal tests to ensure safety and high-quality standards are met. The frame was tested fi rst at our works and later onboard the rig and was accepted by the customer. Franks is very happy with their fi rst experience and is keen to employ our workshop for upcoming projects.

ALATAS Middle East has regularly been using our Workshop and Hydraulic services for maintenance and repair projects on cranes. In one such recent project we were asked to provide our services for Repair and External Painting of a Crane Boom. Our scope of work in this project involved material testing of the existing plate boom in the presence of GL surveyor, procurement of material, renewal of wasted or dented plates in the crane boom head area, 100% MPI of all weld joints after renewal, painting of repair area and renewal of all greasing lines. Our team was able to complete the project within schedule, according to Alatas expectations and to their satisfaction. Another satisfi ed customer.

ALSTOM, world leading Energy Solu-tions & Transport Company has sup-plied Gas & Steam Turbine operating in Fujairah Asia Power Company’s plant and as per their agreement with FAPCO have to provide war-ranty for a period of 15 years. Our Technical Resources Division “Team-work” has worked closely with AL-STOM in past, supporting them on minor outages and owing to their successful relationship, last year were awarded project to supply technical manpower for three back to back shutdowns commencing October 18, 2012. With 89,400 man-hours to be invested within fi ve months this was a challenging assignment, but this brought out the best from our team. Our team of highly skilled 210 per-sonnel worked round the clock un-der Alstom’s supervision to complete these shutdowns on 25th March 2013, three days before schedule. ALSTOM & FAPCO offi cials were full of praise on successfully completing the tasks ahead of schedule while maintaining quality and safety throughout the outage. Another feather in our cap!!!!
