USU Facilities is pleased to announce Joshua Riggs as the Employee of the Month for May 2014. Josh has been with Facilities for the past two years and works within the Finishes Shop. Before coming to Facilities Josh worked with his uncle’s company, Dennis Riggs Painting, for fifteen years. Scott Jaggi, Finishes Foreman, has said, “We have all learned so much from Josh. If there is a difficult project, Josh jumps right in and makes it happen. Not only is he a great worker, but he’s fast. All this, plus he loves to fish!” Lloyd Johnson, co-worker to Josh, has said, “Josh has been an exemplary employee. He has become the go to guy because of his knowledge and expertise. He is always willing to lend a helping hand and has assisted everyone in the paint shop in order to meet deadlines, filling in when someone needs help, or by sharing his knowledge in any given situation. His work is impeccable and he is up to date on modern techniques. You can be guaranteed that when Josh is on the job, it’s going to be done right. He is really pleasant to be around, to work with, and has become an integral part of our Finishes team. He’s got the whole package!” Josh was born in Logan and raised in the Young Ward area. He has two sisters who live in North Carolina and Idaho. He also has one brother who lives locally. His dad lives in Young Ward and his mom lives in Idaho. Josh graduated from Mountain Crest High School and attended USU for one year. Josh and his wife, Nicole, live in Hyrum with their black lab, Blade. Armed Forces Day Saturday, May 17, 2014

Many Americans celebrate Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May. It is a day to pay tribute to men and women who serve the United States’ armed forces. Armed Forces Day is also part of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May.

Memorial Day Monday, May 26, 2014

Dear Facilities, I wanted to thank Reid Olsen for spending Saturday with the high school women as part of the SWE spon-sored Engineering Extravaganza. We had close to 50 students and over half brought their parents. Reid’s workshop provided a very positive experience for these students. I hold out great hope that many of these women will come to USU and major in engineering. Thanks, Reid!

John Gilden & Family

Dear Facilities Family,

Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers that were sent at the time of my mother-in-law’s passing. Your love and kindness will never be forgotten.

Dear Facilities,

I just wanted to let you know how happy we are with the work that Ray Pitcher has been doing at the UWRL. He is very professional and thorough in his work. He has brightened up various dark hall-ways and stairwells at the UWRL with his painting and it looks 100% better. We sure appreciate the good job he is doing at the UWRL!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

YEARS OF SERVICE

May 11, 2014

The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The 5th Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over

the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the

Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other

parts of Mexico, and especially in U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population. It is not, as many

people think, Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually September 16.
