Lunch Plenary: Innovation in Law and Staying Relevant in Ever-Changing Times Judy Perry Martinez – President-Elect, American Bar Association Chair, ABA Presidential Commission on the Future of Legal ServicesJudy Perry Martinez, Of Counsel at Simon, Peragine, Smith & Redfearn (SPS&R) in New Orleans, was recently named president-elect of the American Bar Association (ABA) and will become ABA president in August, 2019.
Judy returned to SPS&R in 2015, where she was previously a partner and member of the management committee from 1982 to 2003. In 2003 she joined Northrop Grumman where she would serve as assistant general counsel for litigation, managing litigation for the western half of the country before becoming Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer. She was also named to the company’s Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council. After retiring from Northrop Grumman, Judy became a Fellow at the Advanced Leadership Initiative at Harvard, where she spent a year in residence before returning to New Orleans.
Judy was appointed chair of the ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary in 2011. Earlier, she served as the ABA lead representative to the United Nations, and as a member of the ABA Board of Governors and its executive committee. Later she served as the chair of the ABA Presidential Commission on the Future of Legal Services and, most recently, as a member of the ABA Task Force on building public trust in the American justice system. She is currently a special advisor to the ABA Center for Innovation. She also serves as a member of the board of directors to the American Bar Foundation, is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Louisiana Bar Foundation, and is a member of the American Law Institute.
