Fall 2012 GLOBEMED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN BI-ANNUAL REPORT GlobeMed at the University of Wisconsin—Madison GlobeMed at the University of Wisconsin—Madison is a student run organization aimed at improving the health of impoverished communities through partnership, education, fundraising, and advocacy. Our chapter is part of a network of 50 university chapters across the United States which are directed and guided under GlobeMed’s national office. GlobeMed at the University of Wisconsin—Madison’s chapter works to support the projects of the Cambodian Organization for Women’s Support (COWS) in providing vocational training for youth and improving reproductive health education in Kampong Thom, Cambodia. This is our second year as a chapter at UW—Madison and we will be sending our first group of Grassroots On-site Work (GROW) interns to Cambodia this July to strengthen our connection with COWS. Through various fundraisers, we project to raise $15,000 to lift 30 people out of poverty through vocational training. Our chapter will better establish itself on the UW—Madison campus through partnerships with other global health organizations, the Global Health Institute, and by hosting a regional summit for GlobeMed chapters in the midwest in February 2013. Mission: To support the projects of our Cambodian partner by increasing local awareness of global health concerns, fundraising, establishing meaningful partnerships, and developing future leaders in the movement for global health equity “I believe that healthcare is a human right, not a privilege.” —Rebecca Raj http://globemeduwmad.wordpress.com/ | [email protected]

Grassroots On-site WorkIn July 2013, five members of the University of

Wisconsin’s GlobeMed chapter will travel to Kampong Thom to work on-site with the Cambodian Organization for Women’s Support. This year will be our chapter’s first GROW trip and the students traveling to Cambodia are very excited to finally meet our partner in person.

The entire GlobeMed chapter looks forward to learning more about the staff members who work with COWS, the communities they serve, and the projects we are working on together. The GROW team is confident that their four weeks in Cambodia will be a learning experience for GlobeMed and COWS which will help strengthen our partnership.
