Giving yourself a wide range of hues to work from when
designing is a smart idea. I work on big collections at once
and like to offer what feels like a full palette. Mixing up cools
and warms in varying degrees of values and saturations gives
me plenty of opportunity to build an exciting design. I love
limited palettes too, they can be so sophisticated and elegant.
It’s all a matter of what you’re designing for. Look at the sub-groups
below to see how this might play out in a collection.
I use paint chip fan books which I purchase from the paint company, to
build color palette mini-books. Here, I’ve used a Sizzix die (from Brenda
Pinnick collection, “album cover and page”). This makes a great little
reference book - very handy for taking along with you as you shop for
supplies, wardrobe items or home furnishings.
