STUDENTS EXPERIENCE THANKSGIVING FEAST

13th, we would like every

student in our school to

return their reading log and

the monies collected to

their teachers. All of the

money we raise goes right

back into our community to

help moms-to-be have full-

term, healthy babies and

support those that don’t.

We are in the midst of our very exciting

March of Dimes Read-a-Thon, and we need

your help to make it another successful

year! Each Day between November 8th and

December 6th, students have been asked

to log the number of minutes they read

each day. They can log this on any reading

log their teacher has provided. Between

December 6th and December 12th, we are

asking students, with your help, to collect

donations from sponsors for all the reading

they did during the month. On December

March of Dimes Read-a-Thon

Samuel Everitt Elementary will be conducting a sock drive from December 2nd through 13th. Please consid-er donating NEW socks for the homeless and needy.

Suggested sizes: bring in socks that are the same size YOU wear.

Please help your child spread the Respect, Responsibility, and Safety they have been showing through the

ECHO SEES program outside of our building.

Do you have a sock drawer at home? The homeless don’t!

SNEAKERS, SNEAKERS, SNEAKERS!

With the winter weather approaching

please have your children either wear

their sneakers to school or pack them

in their book bags. Wearing shoes or

boots is not allowed on the wood

floors of the gymnasium.

Have you checked out my website?

The website has information and links

for additional information including

nutrition.

The month of December is our nutri-

tion month in P.E. Each week our stu-

dents in third, fourth, and fifth grades

will be doing nutrition activities in the

gym. The activities are designed to

keep kids moving and also learn about

nutrition at the same time.

Kindergarten, first, and second grades

will be continuing the basic skills unit.

During the unit the children will be

introduced to the skills of tossing,

catching, rolling, throwing, and strik-

ing. Game activities will reinforce the

learning goals.

DANGERS OF ICE. During the winter

months our back yard pools, creeks,

ponds, and lakes begin to freeze. I will

be reviewing the dangers of ice in win-

ter with all the grades. Please rein-

force your expectations about the ice

covered areas. We want everyone to

be safe during the winter.

A big thank you to

Mr. Lutz, a second

grade parent, who

came to speak to the whole

second grade about Crickets

as part of our In-

sect Science Curriculum!

We appreciate you giving

your time to visit us and we

enjoyed learning about a

cricket’s habitat, life cycle,

and other interesting facts!

below 20 degrees). It is imperative that

you send your children to school with

sufficient clothing (hats, gloves/mittens,

and a warm coat) that is consistent with

the predicted weather forecast. We do not

have sufficient support staff to conduct

outdoor and indoor recess at the same

time. Therefore, weather permitting, all

students will go outside for recess. Thank

you for your anticipated cooperation and

support in this regard.

COLD WEATHER REMINDER As the cold weather is now upon us,

questions have surfaced regarding the

student 30 minute recess period. Fresh air

and exercise are important to children.

We will continue to take the children

outside for recess unless the temperature

or wind chill factor drops to an unsafe

level (temperatures and/or wind chill

Art News … December Wow! What a great 1st Marking Period!

Where is all of my child’s art?

Mrs. Potter and Mrs. Storck are beginning to store the art projects for the year so that the kids can reflect on them and choose their favorite pieces to be included in the art show that will be held in the Spring.

Our students had an extremely successful and strong beginning to the school year as we focused on Line, Space, & Pattern. Not only did we produce art, we sketched our thoughts and plans, evaluated our choices,

and wrote reflections of our experiences on exit tickets.

Check out some of the work!
