20-22- After He said this, He showed them His hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent Me I am sending you. And with that He breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit.

For John baptized with[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.”

2. In Acts

Page 21: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

Acts 2:1- When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.

Page 22: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

V2-4- Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Page 23: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

Acts 2:37- When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

Page 24: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

v38- Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Page 25: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

V39- The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.

Page 26: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

V12- But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Page 27: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

V14-15- When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

Page 28: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

V16-17- because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Page 29: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

3. In the Old TestamentObviously the desire was to get into the presence of God. When you came in there was 3 things you needed to do before coming before God.

Page 30: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

1. Altar where you shed the blood of the lamb. 2. Laver where you washed with water. 3. Flask where you were anointed with oil, oil of course representing the Spirit.

Page 31: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

The baptism of the Holy Spirit was a normal experience in the New Testament church It’s really about a closer relationship with Holy Spirit about more of God

Page 32: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

1. Remove all barriers. 2. Request the gift of the Holy Spirit.(Luke 11:13) If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!

Page 33: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

3. Receive Him by faith. Most everything that God has for you makes you take another step, another risk of faith

Page 34: v2b-They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

The difference between the first baptism and the third is like the difference between filling up a glass of water and throwing that glass in a swimming pool.
