Speakers included the new Commissioner of the Department of Veterans Services, John L. Newby II, the Membership Director at the chamber, Ms. Kris Johnson, and Mr. Harry Horning II, chamber member and President of the Prince William Veterans Council. Sara Gaba, curriculum developer and trainer, presented the V3 core curriculum for the audience of approximately 20 individuals representing 15 different companies and agencies. In partnership with the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC)and Noblis, the Virginia Transition Assistance Program (VTAP) held amilitary workforce recruiting day at Noblis on October 29th. About 60job seeking military affiliated individuals attended the event to networkwith and pitch themselves to 14 different employers. Those companiesincluded these members of NVTC: Acentia, Adams Communications &Engineering Technology, CSC, General Dynamics, Halfaker &Associates, Health Information Technology & Solutions, HewlettPackard, ICF International, Leidos, Noblis, Prism, SAIC, SalientFederal Solutions, Unissant and Verizon.

The format of the recruiting event involves the job seekers sitting atassigned seats at round tables, which the recruiters from the respectivecompanies rotate through to have a chance to interact with all thepotential candidates. This type of event is meant to be more interactiveand engaging than a typical job fair, with the hopes of enabling the jobseekers to leave more lasting favorable impressions on the recruiters. This often means more positive leads to employment for the Veteranand military spouse candidates.

From a sampling of 40 feedback surveys completed by the job seekerparticipants, the following information has been averaged on a scale of1 to 10 (10 being the highest score possible):

Overall assessment of the day's activities: 9.5Meeting facility: 9.7Employer presentations: 9.0Snacks/Lunch: 9.6Coordination/Preparation prior to the event: 9.3Diversity of employers: 8.7Networking opportunities: 9.6Flow of the sequence of events: 9.2Length of the day's activities: 9.3Professionalism of presentations: 9.5

The qualitative responses are also largely positive. A few of the morepopular responses include:

"Great opportunity for one on one time with company recruiters""Perfect opportunity to network with employers and be seen""Very innovative and much better than a job fair"

In conclusion, 85% of the candidates that attended the event say theyfeel as if they have a positive lead for employment and 100% ofparticipants would recommend this type of event to others

Admiral Security Services reported that they promoted Richard Carter,10 year MP US Army. He was promoted to manager and sent to oneof their longest standing accounts. The account was beginning to slip, leadership was becoming poor and morale was low, and they were in astate of extreme status quo. Admiral Security felt that Richard came tothe account with a cando attitude, he visited all shifts, reorganized therecognition program, and worked to tighten up staffing. His presenceand influence made a quick and positive impact and their customer isthrilled.
