Managing ports means managing a complexlogistical chain of processes such as shipmovements, cargo handling and land and waterinfrastructure operation. The business success ofthe port and its stakeholders relies to a large extenton reliable, safe and efficient traffic management inthe port and in its approach areas.

To maximize the port’s efficiency, the turn-around time of a ship’s visit must beminimized, even in high density trafficsituations during night time or in adverseweather conditions. Therefore traffic needsto be planned and and ships safely guidedto their scheduled berths, taking intoaccount all considerations such as the ship’scharacteristics, weather conditions, seastate, and under-keel clearance. At theberth, the cargo is unloaded and loadedafter which the ship is guided back to sea inthe same controlled way.

MANAGE THE TRAFFIC

To enable a safe and expeditious trafficflow, the port has to know all vesselpositions, behaviour and intentions in its

vicinity. Sophisticated algorithms areneeded to facilitate in scheduling andcollision avoidance. This requires state-of-the-art detection, guidance and controlequipment which is able to perform reliablyin all weather and sea state conditions.

SHARE THE INFORMATION

Vessel information, such as ETA, route, anchorage area and berth need to beshared. Not only amongst the VTSoperators, but also with the port authoritiesand service providers in the port (e.g. pilots, agents, tugs, stevedores). This information exchange allows eachservice provider to optimize its ownbusiness, enabling efficient overall portperformance.

SUPPLY OF VESSELTRAFFIC SERVICE

SYSTEMS

V3000 VTMIS is our proven solution for asafe, efficient and secure flow of traffic inports, waterways and coastal regions.V3000 VTMIS provides authorities withthe means to guide, assist and manage allshipping within their areas of interest.

Reliability

Main ports world-wide, including the Portof Hong Kong, Port of Ningbo, Port ofRotterdam and the River Scheldt (Port ofAntwerp), can attest to the value of thesystem’s proven reliability.

Flexibility

The system can easily be configured toreflect the local operational environment.V3000 VTMIS can be applied to virtuallyall ports world-wide without the need forexpensive custom developments.

Continuity

Using our software upgrade services, thesystem remains up-to-date and aligned withfuture international regulatory andtechnical developments, thus preserving theport’s investments.

Different views on traffic

SURVEILLANCE

The sensors are the eyes of the system.V3000 VTMIS can work with practicallyany type: radars, AIS, electro optics, direction finders, hydrographical sensors, meteorological sensors and many more.Based on the information from AIS trafficis automatically identified. V3000 VTMISunsurpassed Multi-Sensor Fusionintegrates what the sensors detect into oneconsistent and coherent traffic image youcan rely on, even in the most demandingcircumstances.

SAFETY NET

An accurate multi-sensor fusion is the keyto reliable alarm functions. To provide asafety net operators can trust, the systemcan monitor a variety of hazards withcollision prediction, grounding prediction, buoy and anchor watch, line and zoneguarding and many more.

NAVIGATIONAL ASSISTANCE

Once safety is guaranteed, the next level isthe optimization of traffic flow. Advancedrouting functions enable traffic to bescheduled on fairways, optimizingthroughput and resulting in a timely arrivalat the dock. The VTS operator can providethe ships with information on traffic, fairway and weather conditions.Information can be exchanged using VHFcommunication and AIS messages.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

V3000 VTMIS provides an excellentplatform for Traffic Management. Relevantship, cargo and port information is linkedin real-time to the actual and scheduledtraffic, providing the VTS operators with allthe information they need. In addition tothis tactical information, strategicinformation, such as traffic density, eventoverviews and visit overviews, are readilyavailable to support the port’s long-termdevelopment. The port can choose whatinformation to make available over the webto third party stakeholders.

SUPPORT

V3000 VTMIS provides several supportingfunctionalities such as recording and replayand system control and monitoring. V3000VTMIS provides online notification ofsystem alarms to the system’s maintenanceengineer.

DISPLAY

V3000 VTMIS displays are valued by itscustomers for its efficient way of interactionwith VTS operators and its clean way ofpresenting information. Information can beretrieved directly by clicking on the ship ofinterest. In a similar way, video cameras arecontrolled from the traffic image withoutthe need of a joystick. Detailed informationneeded by the traffic planner is presented ina separate window.

The V3000 VTMIS traffic display providesthe right information at the right time

Target tracking forms the foundation on which all functionality of a VTMISrests. The quality of safety functions is directly related to the quality of targettracking. Weaknesses in target tracking will extend to all functionality in thesystem. Good target tracking quality will therefore result in low false alarmrates, and timely warnings against dangerous situations or accidents.

An independent side-by-side comparison of the three leading VTS systemsuppliers demonstrated that the V3000 VTMIS target tracker “TARGHITT”outperformed its rivals in every aspect.
