Radon testing “Should British Columbians be con- cerned about radon exposure? Yes, ab- solutely. Should they panic? No,” said BC Lung Assoc. Director Richie Gage. The Merritt area is known to have ele- vated levels radon, a radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in the ground. It can seep into buildings through cracks in the walls or foundation. The BC Lung Assoc. recommends making every effort to minimize home radon lev- els. FAGTCJ I was tickled pink to have the oppor- tunity to attend Jesse Cook in concert Monday night at the Kelowna Commu- nity Theatre, an 853-seat venue, full to the brim, not a bad seat in the house, where we were dazzled and delighted by this tremendous group of excellent mu- sicians: world music extraordinaire! I couldn’t help but be reminded of the many amazing performances I enjoyed right here in the Nicola Valley between the time I arrived in 1985 and when the Arts Council was sadly forced to give up its concert series in 2013, for lack of vol- unteers. Those high-quality performances were organized by a dedicated group of hard-working volunteers who struggled to work within the limited parameters of what our community offered for perform- ance venues: the basement of the old li- brary, the gyms of NVJSS and MSS, and then the Civic Centre with chairs and stage to set up and the required sounds systems brought in from away at great ex- pense. Funding was solicited from local businesses and the BC Touring Council so that we could experience some of the finest performances touring the Province, at an affordable ticket price. Sitting in the KCT on Monday night, I admired my marvellous surroundings and dreamed of the possibilities that await our community when we have our own theatre, housing proper lights, its own sound system, comfortable seating, and fine acoustics. We will be able to host top calibre performances with ease, ac- cessibility, and great pride. And no more traveling to Kelowna and Kamloops, to spend our valuable entertainment dollars elsewhere. If you haven’t already, please buy a membership in the Nicola Valley Community The- atre Society, and let’s all work together to make this long-time vision a reality. — JdW Standing Rock fundraiser An evening fundraiser will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, 6-9pm at Shulus Hall.
