A vacancy has arisen in the Children’s Unit at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy for an Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner at Band 7 level to join our team. At present we have 3 qualified Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner.
Our unit consists of an outpatient department, ambulatory care unit and an acute paediatric ward. We care for children requiring both medical and surgical nursing whilst working closely with the Neonatal Unit, Accident and Emergency department and Theatre Recovery and the tertiary centres in Edinburgh and Glasgow
You will be required to be a qualified Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner with recent experience of working as an APNP. You will be required to work within a multidisciplinary team being accountable for the delivery of specialised episodes of care. An exciting Secondment opportunity has arisen within the Community Children’s and Young People’s Learning Disability Nursing Service. We are looking for an individual working at Band 6, with an interest in gaining experience and knowledge in caring for this client group. You will work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist (Children and Young People with Learning Disability) providing specialist assessment, care planning, and care evaluation to children with a Learning Disability who require additional support with Mental Illness, Autism, Challenging Behaviour or ADHD. The role will include monitoring of physical health conditions and response to medication regimes and to scope, report on and make recommendations on the future development role of LD nursing specific to Children and Young People.
Children and their families are seen within their own homes and within their local community across Fife. The hours are from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. The secondment will be for 12 months, 1wte, and include opportunity to liaise with other multi-disciplinary team members as well as opportunity to gain community multi-agency experience.It is essential you should be a RN with current registration in Child Branch/RSCN or LD and have knowledge, skills and experience within Learning Disability.
Training and support will be given to enable you to manage a caseload and acquire the skill and knowledge to work with children and adolescents with a Learning Disability and/or additional conditions, e.g. ASD.

The midwifery service in the Victoria Maternity Unit in Kirkcaldy is looking for a registered midwife, to work 15 hours a week within the smoking cessation service. This exciting opportunity requires a registered midwife to join Quit 4 Life the specialist midwife led smoking cessation service. You will be based at the Victoria Maternity Unit, Kirkcaldy, but work throughout Fife. You will be required to manage your own caseload, providing support to pregnant women, their partners and family who wish to stop smoking. The majority of support is delivered in the community therefore the ability to travel is essential. Experience in health promotion, good counselling skills and a genuine interest in smoking cessation are all essential. It would be beneficial if you have undertaken training in ‘Intensive Support in Smoking Cessation’, however, this training will be provided as a basis if required. An interest in research would be advantageous and a willingness to undertake further training is necessary. You will also be involved in providing training to staff as this is an integral part of the role. This interesting post requires a confident individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively manage time and to work independently.

We are currently recruiting Nurses to Medicine of the Elderly wards in Victoria Hospital. We are looking for nurses who wish to develop skills in Medicine of the Elderly as well as nurses who are experienced in this specialty.
With the increasing number of frail older people in the population, there is a real focus on how Health and Social Care partners support older people. The experience available to you in Medicine of the Elderly will enable you to develop a range of skills which will be transferrable to many care settings and other inpatient specialties.
Medicine of the Elderly nursing is a developing specialty which offers the opportunity to nurse patients with complex conditions on very busy, friendly wards which can be challenging but highly rewarding.
The multidisciplinary teams in Medicine of the Elderly wards are involved in innovative work around the management of frailty and are also involved in projects through the NHS Fife Older Peoples Collaborative to improve the quality of care for Older people.
We are looking for innovative individuals to join our team in delivering high quality care to patients. You will be required to work both autonomously and part of a team in caring for the acutely unwell patient including the ability to work empathically with clients and their families. You will also be expected to establish and maintain a high standard of nursing practice, ensuring that quality of care provided is continually informed by best evidence-based practice. Experience in M&H, venepuncture and cannulation are desirable, but training can be provided. Good communication skills are essential.

We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic HPCP registered Physiotherapist to provide clinical, strategic and operational leadership to our MSK physiotherapy staff. The FRDU is an award winning Fife Wide service offering a person-centred biopsychosocial model of care. Based at Whyteman’s Brae Hospital, Kirkcaldy, you will be cover the West Fife area and predominately see patients at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline. The rheumatology team consists of doctors, nurses, occupational therapists (OT), OT support worker, pharmacist, physiotherapists, physiotherapy support worker, podiatrists and a psychologist. Patients are mainly seen on an out-patient basis both on a one to one and group basis (hydrotherapy and exercise classes) as appropriate.
The NHS Fife MSK Physiotherapy service is a Fife wide single service and reaches across community and acute care. We are in the unique position in NHS Fife to be supported by the only Musculoskeletal Consultant in the East of Scotland and we have extended scope practitioners in the following specialities; foot and ankle, spinal, shoulder, hand and knees. You will have the opportunity to work with the Musculoskeletal Fife wide network to enhance your own development and that of the MSK service.
For both areas you should be educated to a diploma/degree level. You will have completed at least 4 musculoskeletal rotations and display excellent practical and theoretical knowledge. Additionally you must evidence good communication and strong organisational and IT skills.
You will contribute to service development, be expected to use outcome measures to evaluate practice and be involved in service training, audit and research programme, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. LOCUM SPECIALTY DOCTOR IN CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRY5 SESSIONSFIXED TERM FROM 1ST AUGUST 2017 FOR 1 YEARREF NO: FW403/06/17 We are seeking a locum specialty doctor to work in the West Fife Team covering generic child and adolescent psychiatry. There is no on-call required of the post holder but contributing to emergency response during normal working hours is expected.
The department (Fife CAMHS) includes a core group of experienced and well qualified clinicians from a number of disciplines, including, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing and Child Psychotherapy. The post holder will join an established team of five Consultant Psychiatrists, one core trainee from the Edinburgh training scheme and we are approved for higher specialist training. We have been at the forefront in Scotland in developing an Intensive Therapy Service including Eating Disorders to offer community based support for children and young people with severe mental health problems. Other multi-disciplinary teams provide services for young people and children who self harm, for looked after children and for children and young people who have been sexually abused.
As a locum specialty doctor you will be required to provide an input to the West Fife Team, based at Carnegie unit at Queen Margaret Hospital. There are currently 2 consultant psychiatrists in the West Fife Team (1.4 WTE) who will provide supervision into the post. The work involves assessment and treatment of mental disorders in children and young people including medication management, liaison and joint working with colleagues from within CAMHS, schools and social work and third sector agencies.
The establishment in 2005 of the Playfield Institute as a resource for skills development, research and the provision of information, has opened up new opportunities for the successful post holder to receive support for research and engage in a range of training events.
The CAMH Service also provides essential input into specialist assessment clinics for children and young people thought to be on the Autistic Spectrum.

The NHS Fife Intervention Project is a highly innovative 18 month programme to test a new approach to providing services in NHS Scotland hospitals for those patients who are homeless. The project will be managed by Shelter Scotland and is supported by a multi-agency Steering Group led by Fife Council Housing Services and the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership. The key aims of this project are to:
improve working links between health and housing services provide homeless individuals with the right support to improve their health outcomes reduce the re-admission rates among this cohort evaluate the preventative value of this approach in reducing pressures on NHS
Emergency Departments in Scotland.
The project will employ 2 staff and be run from Victoria NHS Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife . There will be close partnership working with hospital staff to engage patients who are identified as having insecure housing. Workers will follow a five-stage process to engage with the patient, undertake an immediate crisis response, work with them to identify key goals, put this into action focused on helping the person to develop skills and resilience, and finally support them to move on.
The project will focus on emergency admissions at VHK and Out of Hours. The target group will be individuals of any age and families who are homeless or at immediate risk of homelessness. This project will be evaluated by Healthcare Improvement Scotland, who will work alongside the staff team in identifying outcomes and learning.
A key aim of this project is to share learning and build capacity with key stakeholders across Fife. Applications are thus being sought from staff in Fife Council Housing Services and NHS Fife who are interested in being seconded to staff the project. Key skills required include: needs assessment; experience of casework or care/support planning & delivery; experience of collaborative working. A significant programme of staff training and development will be a feature of this project.
