Yes. You will love this program. The old-time Gospel is presented Each day children learn truths from God’s Word such as Salvation through Jesus Christ, obedience to God’s Word, repentance for sin, and the forgiveness of God.

We believe God uses the Bible to speak to young hearts. Emphasis is placed on Scripture memorization with the aid of fun games and skits. The King James Version is used in all materials.

In what size church does this pro-gram run best?

Any size. This program has been used successfully in small and large churches across the USA. Size does not matter.

What is the Age and Time Frame?

These materials are geared for kindergarten to 6th grade students. The entire program runs about 2 1/2 hours without crafts and 3 hours with crafts. An evening pro-gram can be condensed to 11/2- 2 hours. Crafts are optional and not included.

We provide the name of a craft source if you choose to buy crafts.

FAQ’S about VBS

Can our Teens help?

Yes! Teens can help with skits, verse games, songs, puppets, sitting with children and other areas. Some churches even use these materials with teen groups as a mission out-reach.

Do the children get anything to take home?

Yes. Copyready Fun Sheets are provided to give to the children daily. Fun Sheets include a synopsis of the Bible story, the memory verse, and fun games.

Do you use visuals with the Bible stories?

These lessons do not rely on stagnant, old-fashioned flash cards to convey the story. Instead, in many of the stories we use the chil-dren to act out certain scenes. The children are eager to help and this method firmly embeds the story into the memory of each in attendance.

You will need a dynamic story-teller who can use their voice and-body to portray the stories. You will be amazed at how a well-told story can rivet the attention of the entire audience. (We include info on story-telling and working with children on the platform.)

WE RECOMMEND A PLATFORM VBS

OR CHOOSE CLASSES INSTEAD

A platform run VBS uses onemain teacher who tells the story fromthe platform to all the children at thesame time. This format allows you touse only one teacher instead of several.

You will need an experiencedstoryteller and there are areas forother teens and adults to help withsongs, skits, etc.

It can be done! A good storyteller should have no problem keeping the at-tention of the children. And most church-es find they really love this format.

Some churches wish to use amore traditional approach to VBS. Souse classes if you choose.

Simply copy the Bible lessonsand other materials you want theteachers to use. You can open withthe group together for songs, thepuppet skit, offering, and then splitup for classes, crafts, and refreshments.

Use the format that works bestfor your church.

You: Here we are, half way through our journey into space.

I think I will check with FAX to see what quality of a good

astronaut he can tell us about today. (To FAX) FAX, do you have time to talk with

us now?

FAX: Affirmative. I have been programed to carry out several tasks simultaneously.

You: FAX, yesterday you told us a good astronaut needs to be adventurous. Tell us

another quality trait today.

FAX: A good astronaut must be trained. It takes many hours to prepare to go into

space.

You: I’m sure that is right. You have to know many things to control a spacecraft.

FAX: Affirmative. Astronauts train for years and each astronaut on a mission has a

special area of expertise.

You: That reminds me of a Christian’s life.

FAX: Correct. A Christian must prepare to live for God each day.

You: Can you tell us how we can prepare to live for God?

FAX: First, read the Bible. That is how God talks to us.

You: That’s right. God speaks to us through His Word.

FAX: Second, pray. Prayer is how we talk to God.

You: Right. God wants us to keep in close contact with Him.

FAX: Third, go to church.

You: By going to church we can learn more about God and we can fellowship with

other Christians.

FAX: Affirmative. Training for the Christian life is crucial to a successful mission.

You: Thanks so much, FAX. We will talk with you again tomorrow.

(Introduce verse and have children say it several times.)

You: Let’s see if Spud the Space Dog will come talk to us today.

Let’s call him. Spud! Spud!

Spud: Oh, no! Oh, nooooo!

You: What’s the matter, Spud? Are you in big trouble with the

Commander for stowing away on the space ship?

Spud: No. In fact the commander was very kind to me.

You: So what’s your problem?

Spud: I’m scared!

You: Scared? Scared of what?

Spud: Space.

You: You’re scared of space?

Spud: Yes. Have you ever heard of “Lost in Space?”

You: Sure, but I thought you wanted to go into space?

Spud: I did. But I never thought about getting lost before!

You: I don’t think we are lost.

Spud: Oh no? Can you tell me exactly where we are right now?

You: I can’t tell you our exact coordinates, but I’m sure the ship’s navigational officer

can.

Spud: No, no! I’ve got this feeling. It doesn’t matter what he says. I’m sure we are lost

in space.

You: I think you are all upset over nothing.

Spud: Oh, and that’s not all!

You: What else?

Spud: What if we run into aliens?

You: Aliens?

Spud: Yeah, you know. Strange green and purple creatures with 2 heads and 7

bulgy eyes on each head! That’s scary!

You: Spud! Have you ever seen an alien?

Spud: No, but it could happen!

You: Spud, you need to calm down. In fact, I think that listening to our Bible verse

might help you.

Spud: How could listening to a Bible verse help me?

You: Our Bible verse today talks about the fact that our help comes from the Lord.

He created everything in the Universe. There is no problem too big for Him.

Listen. (Lead verse)

Spud: That really is a great verse. It makes me feel better to know God can help

me.

You: He sure can. Every one of us has things we are afraid of and problems that

come into our lives. But God loves us and cares about us.

Spud: Will God get rid of all my problems?

You: No, not always. But He will guide you and help you along.

Spud: Wow! I feel better already.

You: That’s good Spud. Now let’s see if you can say the verse. It’s a great one to

remember.

Spud: (Says verse)

You: Good job.

Spud: I think I’m going to go take a nap now. I’m tired from staying up all night

worrying. (Goes down fast.)

You: (Face children) Okay Spud. Bye. (Turn to look at Spud, but he’s gone) Spud!

Spud! (Loud snoring from below) I guess he’s asleep already!

Day Three

God’s Love to the UnlovableTen Lepers

Study Text: Luke 17:11-19

It is very easy to love the people who love you and treat you kindly. You love your family and your friends. You love those who buy you things and take you places.

It is also easy to dislike those who are unlovable. You know, people who are unkind or rude or messy or just different from you. You just plain don’t like them!

The hard thing is to love those that are just plain unlovable!

The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ came to earth to show God’s love. And not just to those who were already lovable. Jesus came to show God’s love to all people. There were plenty of people who did not show any love to Jesus and yet He still showed love to them.

So how did Jesus show God’s love? Well, first He left Heaven to come to earth. Heaven is a beautiful, perfect place. In Heaven, Jesus is King. But when Jesus came to earth He lived like a poor person. Nothing was perfect on earth for Him.

Then Jesus showed God’s love when He was grown up. He began to travel and teach others about God. As He traveled, He taught people about their sin. Sometimes when Jesus told people they were sinners, it made them very angry. But He didn’t tell them that to be mean. He told them they were sinners so they could have their sin forgiven and be saved.

Also He would stop to heal a person who was sick or give sight to a blind man. Jesus did many miracles to show that He was God’s Son. His miracles showed that

He had power from God. In fact, Jesus is God the Son. He is God.

But Jesus did not just do miracles to help the people He loved like His disciples or His family. He did not just heal those who He knew would really appreciate what He did for them. He often helped those who were very unlovable. No one else loved them, but God did and Jesus proved it.

One day as Jesus traveled, He met a group of ten lepers. These lepers lived outside the village. They lived outside the village because they were forced to live there. They did not enjoy living as outcasts.

When a person discovered he had leprosy, he lost the life he once had. No longer could he work or live with his family. He had to stay totally apart from the people of the town. He was never allowed to visit or shop or do anything around other people.

The Bible calls lepers unclean. Leprosy is a terrible disease that attacks the skin and flesh and nerves. In Jesus day there was no cure for leprosy. If a person contracted leprosy, they had to go and live apart from others until the disease killed them. It was a slow, horrible way to die.

Another terrible thing about having leprosy was that everyone, including their family, shunned them. That means that no one would get near or speak to them. Not only were these poor people sick, they also had to suffer alone and unloved until they died.

Page 14: Vacation Bible School - QualitySpeech.com...VBS is included. You won’t need to buy separate teacher’s manuals, student books, or any-thing. All our materials are reproducible!

14

Luke 17:12 says, And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off.

(Select 7-10 boys and girls to come up. Have them stand on the far end of the platform. You stand as far from them as possible.

Tell them they will represent the 10 lepers and ask them to call out “Unclean, unclean” a few times.)

Whenever someone was passing on the path into a city, if the lepers were outside the village they had to call out to warn people that they were lepers. When people heard them call out, they steered clear. They did not stop to chat with the lepers. They did not stop to ask questions. They did not even throw them a smile.

On the particular day that our story takes place, Jesus was passing through a village and when he came to the outskirts of town there were the ten lepers.

Normally they called out . . .

(Have children call “Unclean, unclean.”)

But today was different. The lepers had heard of Jesus also. They knew He did many miracles. They knew He had healed others. So instead of calling out “unclean,” Luke 17:13 tells us they changed their cry.

And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

(Have children call “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”)

Jesus was their only hope. Without a miracle they were doomed to die. They must have decided it was worth a try to ask for healing.

I wonder if they thought that Jesus might not stop?

They probably would not have been at all surprised if He had hurried by just like everyone else did. But Jesus did not

hurry past them with His nose stuck up in the air. Instead He stopped.

Because Jesus is God, He had the power to heal those lepers. And that is exactly what He did.

Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priest. The priest was the only one who could check and see that the leprosy was gone. The priest could declare them “clean.”

The Bible says in Luke 17:14 And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

How excited they were! They were healed! Now they could go back to their families. They could get jobs and support themselves. They would not have to die a painful and horrible death.

Quickly the ten started off to see the priest.

(Have the children start off and go to seats but hold back one boy by the arm.)

After a few steps one of the men turned around and went back to Jesus. He threw himself on the ground and thanked Jesus.

(Have the boy bow on the ground. Then he can go back to his seat.)

Luke 17:15 says, And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God.

That man was grateful to God and he remembered to do what all the rest of them had forgotten. He thanked God for answering his plea.

We do that sometimes too, don’t we? We want something badly. We pray and ask God to do something for us, but when God answers our prayer, we forget to say thank you.

Jesus asked the man, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he

Page 15: Vacation Bible School - QualitySpeech.com...VBS is included. You won’t need to buy separate teacher’s manuals, student books, or any-thing. All our materials are reproducible!

15

said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

The man who remembered to thank Jesus received a double healing from God. Because he remembered to thank God and to give God the glory for healing him, Jesus also healed the man Spiritually.

Because Jesus is God, He cannot only heal physically, He can also heal Spiritually. And God can heal you Spiritually also.

You are unlovable - just like those lepers. You may say, “Not me! I’m not infected with a terrible disease!” But you are! You are a sinner. And nothing you can do will get rid of your sin.

The Bible tells us that we are all sinners. Romans 3:23 says, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

We are born in sin and we cannot do enough good things to take our sin away. No matter how many good things we do, we are still sinners. There is only one way to have our sin forgiven. That way is exactly the same way the lepers did. We need to call out to Jesus and ask Him to heal us of our sin.

He will cleanse you because He loved you even though you are unlovable. Romans 5:8 says, But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

God never says to us, “First clean up yourselves, then I will love and forgive you. “ No, God loves us and only He can clean us of our sin.

Jesus is God and He can take away our sin and make us clean inside. How thankful we should be that God loves us so much that He provides Salvation through Jesus Christ!

Will you tell God you are sorry for your sin? Will you ask Him to forgive your sin and become a part of your life? Will you accept God’s love for you?

Give Invitation.

It is easy to love someone who loves you, isn’t it? You like to be with people who are kind or pretty or make you laugh. But it isn’t so easy to love a person who is rude or mean.

But God loves us all. Even people who are very unlovable. That is one reason Jesus Christ came to earth. He came to show us how much God loves us.

When Jesus was on earth, He traveled around telling about God’s love. He would stop and heal sick people as He traveled. One day as Jesus was approaching a village, He saw a group of ten men.

These men were not like other men. They were lepers. A leper has a disease that attacks the skin and nerves. Slowly and painfully a leper’s body is destroyed by the disease.

A leper in Jesus’ day was forced to leave his home and family. He would have to live outside the village. No one wanted to be near a leper so they lived lonely lives. When someone came near, instead of going to talk with them, the leper would have to call out the warning, “Unclean, unclean.”

When the ten lepers saw Jesus, they knew who He was. They had heard He could do great miracles. Jesus was their only hope. They called out to Him, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” (Luke 17:13)

Jesus could have hurried on by, but instead He stopped to heal them. How excited they were. They all turned and rushed away. But then one man turned back. He went to Jesus and bowed down and thanked Jesus for healing him.

Jesus is God. He could heal those lepers of their disease. He also had the power to heal them of their sin. The same is true for you. You are a sinner, but Jesus can forgive your sin and cleanse you, if you ask Him.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:8

Create your own Time Capsule

1. Make your capsule

ª Find a suitable capsule such as a shoe box. Then cover the capsule in plain newsprint or ask your mom for some aluminum foil.

ª Decorate the capsule with drawings or cutouts of stars, planets, and rocket ships.

2. Search for data.

ª Decide what you want to put in your capsule. Think of things that will remind you of this week in your life. Don’t put anything in the capsule

that you will need to take out anytime soon.

ª Here are some suggestions for your data:

Newspaper clippings of interesting current events and Cartoons you think are funny.

A sheet of paper with information about yourself such as your age, grade, and height. Also include the names of your friends, the

things you like doing together, important family events that have happened recently, or what you are doing on your summer vacation.

Write out your favorite Bible verse and why it is special to you.

Write out your future plans. What do you want to be when you are grown up?

Add the date that you made the time capsule.

3. Hide your capsule.

ª Put your capsule in a place where you will forget about it such as at the back of a sock drawer or on the top shelf of your closet.

4. Wait a year or two to open the capsule.

ª You will find it interesting to read what was happening in your life the year before. You will be able to see how much you have changed.

Let me tell you about them.

First, let me assure you that everything we produce is fundamental and God-honoring. My husband, Gary, and I are Bob Jones University graduates. We are members of an independent Baptist church. We’ve devoted our lives to serving the Lord by serving fundamental churches. All our Scripture references are KJV. We believe materials for children need to contain solid Bible teaching. You will not find fluff and filler. We pack our materials with Bible truths and principles.

With these materials you get more than just a Bible story. In each lesson we provide clear, written materials to help you present an entire Children’s Church program. Each lesson starts with an introduction that presents the Life Lesson for the week. Then prayer and song time. Next comes the secondary story that emphasizes the Life Lesson. This could be a missionary story, hymn history, object lesson, or puppet script. Then the Bible memory verse. We provide fun games to teach the verse. Next the Bible lesson is presented. This is not a skimpy lesson. It is complete and always teaches an important Bible truth. After the lesson a challenge follows which helps the children to understand practical ways to apply the lesson to their life. There are quiz questions so you can have a Bible quiz time. Attractive reproducible Activity Sheets are provided.

We now include a full-color visual packet with the lessons, but for the most part you will need a storyteller who can take these materials, which are jammed packed with great ideas, and bring them to life by using the effective storytelling techniques which we teach in our FREE Storytelling book. We give lots of tips on holding attention and keeping the story fascinating.

There are 48 non-dated lessons. We also include 4 holiday lessons. In total, you get 52 complete lessons. You will want to use these materials in order as they progress through the entire Bible. Year One begins with Genesis 1:1. Year Two begins where Year One finishes. We currently have four years of Children’s Church materials. In total there will be six years of materials. These materials are geared for children grades 1 through 6.

I would love to have you look at one of our lessons. You can go to our Website and download a lesson or call for your free lesson. Or I would be happy to send you an entire program to look at for 30 days. I know you’ll love what you see.

My name is Wendy Collins and I know you’ll love our Children’s Church materials.
