Even if you haven’t been extravagant, it takes a lot of planning and budgeting to avoid the Christmas debt hangover in the New Year. Putting Things Into Perspective At various points in life, we will all have periods where external circumstances feel overwhelming and we might experience that feeling of being ‘unable to see the wood for the trees.’ For instance, you might go through a difficult bereavement, a significant career change, a divorce or moving house. You might become a parent, hit a milestone birthday, get married or have a car accident. These changeful experiences (whether planned or otherwise) are a natural and unavoidable part of being human, however there are ways we can practice grounding ourselves during turbulent or busy spells, in order to cope better. Coming towards the end of the calendar year especially, you may notice yourself reflecting on the past 12 months and beginning to form hopes and plans for the year ahead. It allows opportunity to take stock of decisions, achievements or things outside your control that have happened and helps to put things into perspective. Giving yourself space to contemplate in this way helps bring you into the present moment and make sense of your current circumstances in a more objective way.
