About Us Valley View Farm is situated in the tiny village of Old Byland and looks out over the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire. The farm provides the perfect location for a relaxing holiday, offering peace and quiet as well as a gateway to all the delights North Yorkshire has to offer. Under the farm fields lie some abbey ruins, adding to the historic ambience of the area.

DirectionsLeave the A1 by the A168, at junction 49, to Thirsk. Follow the Scarborough & East Coast road (the A170) out of Thirsk. After seven miles the road climbs steeply up Sutton Bank, at the top take a left turn signed Old Byland 3 miles. The first village that you come to is Cold Kirby, take the left handed signposted turning and you will find we are the first farm on your left, as you enter Old Byland. There is a sign on the wall with the farm name on it and the entrance to the farmyard is just around the corner.

BookingsSHORT BREAKS - Bookings start on Fridays or Mondays for 3 nightsARRIVAL & DEPARTURE, the cottages are ready to move into at 3pm on the first day. Please call if you aregoing to arrive after 5pm. Guests are asked to leave at 10am on the final day. A DEPOSIT of 1/3 of the total amount is requested at the time of booking and full payment a month before the holiday starts, if time allows. Credit cards and cheques are accepted.

Booking Online If you wish to make a booking online then follow these step by step instructions:1. Click on the “Booking & Availability” button.2. Enter start date in “Check in” box, length of stay in “For” box and choose from weekly or short break prices in the “Show me” box and then click “Search.”3. On the screen you can see which cottages are available and how much they cost.4. Find the cottage you are interested in and then click “Reserve.”5. At the top of the new page you can see your holiday start date and length of stay.6. Enter all your details (eg. how many people, arrival time), check if everything is correct and then click on the “Proceed to checkout” button.7. Now enter your contact details and payment details. If everything is correct click on “Pay” to finish your transaction.8. A confirmation email or letter will be sent once booking has been made.

Our CottagesThe AreaOld Byland has a quaint sloping village green with a mixtures of stone built houses and cottages. There are several lovely walks to take from the cottages and we can provide you with some routes to take.

Just some of the activities in the local area include Clay pigeon shooting, Fishing, Gliding, Golf, Horse Riding, Pheasant Shooting and Pony Trekking.

There are several market towns to visit in the area with pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. Kirbymoorside offers history, Leyburn offers crafts, galleries and antiques and Pickering is the ideal place to watch the steam trains. The city of York offers regular specialist markets, alongside it’s daily shoppers market. York offers a wealth of history through it’s museums and old streets and of course the magnificent York Minster is not to be missed.

If the countryside isn’t floral enough there are a few beautiful gardens to visit in the area. Helmsley Walled Garden offers five acres whilst Scampston Hall includes a one mile woodland walk in addition to it’s beautiful walled rock garden.

There are some magnificent abbey’s in Yorkshire including Yorkshire’s first world heritage site Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. Riveaulx Abbey is also an impressive site which dates back to 1132.

If you are interested in history and art then the local Castles & Stately Homes can offer an enjoyable day out. Castle Howard, Duncombe Park, Helmsley Castle and Nunnington Hall are all worth a visit.

Pets are welcome at no extra charge. We have a secure kennel which is available should you want to leave your dog for a day out. We just ask that you give us prior notice if you’d like to book the kennel. We can also provide a dog sitting service.

Form Cottage is a ground floor cottage. It has a kitchen/dining/sitting room with a separate bedroom and a bathroom with a shower over the bath. This is a cosy cottage for two and has a king-size bed. This cottage has some beautiful views and opens out onto the courtyard.

Form Cottage - 1 Bedroom

Formicary Cottage is a ground floor cottage with sitting room and dining area with steps leading down to the bedroom. It has a twin bedroom with an en suite bath and shower room. A double sofa bed can be used in the living room. This cottage is suitable for a young family.

Holt Cottage has a split level kitchen/dining area and sitting room. These are upstairs, together with one of the bedrooms – a twin (or king-size) with an en suite bathroom, wash-hand basin & WC. The other two bedrooms are downstairs – a double with an en suite shower-room, wash-hand basin & WC, and a twin (or king-size) with an en suite bathroom, wash-hand basin & WC. Holt cottage can connect to Drey to accommodate large groups.

Holt Cottage - 3 Bedrooms

Drey Cottage is on two floors and has a private patio. The kitchen/dining area and sitting room are downstairs. Upstairs, the double room has an en suite shower-room, wash-hand basin & WC, and the twin room has an en suite bathroom, wash-hand basin and WC. Drey cottage can connect to Holt to accommodate large groups.

Drey Cottage - 2 Bedrooms

Couch Cottage is entirely ground floor and opens onto the sheltered sunny courtyard. The large open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room leads to the bedroom (single beds or a king-size bed) and the bathroom. The bathroom provides a shower, wash-hand basin and WC and is also suitable for disabled access.

Couch Cottage - 1 Bedroom

Granary Cottage is a lovely spacious cottage with a large dining kitchen and separate lounge. The ground floor twin bedroom has an en suite shower room suitable for disabled access, with a wash-hand basin and WC. The other two bedrooms are upstairs and have a wash-hand basin, bath, shower, and WC. One bedroom is a twin and the other has a king-size bed.
