The Value of King College

departDepart from the OrdinaryThere are a few givens of college life. Students will study. They will learn. They will play. They

will meet people who can change their lives. At King College, they will also grow—as students,

certainly, but perhaps more importantly, as people.

King’s undergraduate population is an ideal size at 1,034 students. This allows King to maintain

a low faculty-student ratio. Our professors know our students well and offer them challenges

to motivate and inspire. While King’s faculty utilizes the latest technology for an innovative

curriculum, they remember it is their personal attention that will grow students who succeed in

their chosen careers.

Every traditional first-year student will participate in a unified and personalized curriculum

structure emphasizing teamwork, career guidance, critical thinking, and leadership. It’s a

community-builder including a tuition-covered trip to Washington, D.C., and a personal

laptop computer for every full-time student.

At King, we send our students out into the world. We include foreign and domestic travel learning

opportunities into our curriculum—even during their first year. A significant portion of our students

travel each year for study abroad, mission, and community service trips.

More than 80% of all King graduates who enroll with no prior college credit complete their degree within four years.

According to the 2011 ACT College Student Retention and Graduation Rates report, only 23.5% of college graduates who attend a public four-year institution complete their degree within four years.

With a private education from King College, your student will be able to graduate and start a career sooner – which saves you money.

SupportStudent SupportWith small class sizes and easily accessible professors, your student will receive the personalized attention necessary for success. Students also have a student liaison, a major advisor, and career services staff to offer guidance along the way.

Student liaisons lend support with questions related to registration and records, student affairs, billing, financial aid, and information technology. If your student needs help with schedule changes, housing, payment plans, or even network account creation throughout the year, the student liaison is there to offer assistance.

In addition to working with a student liaison, your student will work with a major advisor who will offer guidance related to decisions regarding curricular choices, internships, graduate school options, and academic support.

We will also help your student get a jump-start into a career. We believe planning for a career and professional life is a four-year process beginning the day students step on campus. During their first year, our career services team will help them determine the best academic area of interest based on their strengths, skills, and goals in life.

Career Services offers a unique experience for King students, integrating career identification with educational programs best designed to meet those goals, translating directly into classroom experience. Combined with a dedicated and robust job and internship identification process, this sets our graduates apart when they begin looking for employment. This also brings further value to a King College degree.

In the next four years, your student will be presented with an abundance of leadership, internship, and service opportunities, both in and out of the classroom.

Cost

BestThe Best ChoiceFrom the moment they arrive, you want nothing but the best for them.

College is one of the most important decisions your child will make, and one of the most important investments you’ll make with them. The lessons they learn, the people they meet, and the life they lead in the next few years will impact the course of their future.

King College is a choice families can agree upon.

The Real Cost of CollegeThe challenging economic circumstances of higher education continue to be a great concern to public and private colleges across the country, and King College is no exception. With carefully managed spending and wisely allocated resources, we have been able to keep our tuition well below the national average for four-year private institutions.

For parents, the thought of paying for a private college education may seem daunting. It doesn’t have to be. Private colleges across the country, including King College, are helping keep their institutions affordable with record amounts of student aid. When you factor in available financial aid—including scholarships, work-study programs, and federal and state assistance loans— a family’s actual cost can be equal to a public four-year college. So don’t rule out a private education for your child until you have spoken with a financial aid counselor and compared the costs.

InvestmentA Worthy InvestmentAt King College, you’ll work with caring and knowledgeable financial aid professionals who will help you find the right assistance for your child. Our financial aid program offers academic scholarships and grants combined with federal and state assistance, judicious financial planning, and a concern for what is best for our students. You may qualify for more financial aid assistance than you realize.

We’re here for you each step of the way. We’re committed to helping you understand the best strategy for an affordable education, your loan obligations, and how to navigate the process. One of our financial aid counselors can work with you at any time in the process to evaluate scholarship availability and estimate federal and state aid so you’ll have an idea of what your costs will be early in the decision making process.

While we realize the nationwide increase in tuition costs represents a concern to parents, our research indicates King College remains a strong value among comparable institutions of higher learning. The College works diligently to develop a tuition and fee structure that is affordable and represents the absolute minimum needed to absorb increased costs due to fluctuations in the nation’s economy.

AthleticsThe Tornado Active, positive competition is a valuable experience that instructs in many areas of life, and, at King, our students have the opportunity to get involved in a variety of competitive and structured team sports. With nearly 400 student-athletes, our athletic program is an important part of our campus community.

Through our intramurals department, students can play indoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, wiffleball, ultimate Frisbee, and dodgeball. Students can also participate in tournaments such as ping pong, foosball, pool, spades, racquetball, Frisbee, golf, and chess, just to name to a few. Several other sports and tournaments are offered throughout the year, based on what King students are interested in playing.

The Tornado, the name of our athletic teams, offers more sports than most schools our size. Students will have the opportunity to compete with or cheer for the Tornado along with the college’s mascot, Twister, in the 68,000 square-foot, state of the art Student Center Complex, which seats 1,200 people in its arena. King is a member of NCAA Division II and Conference Carolinas.

King offers the following intercollegiate sports programs:

Resumé

ReputationA Reputation Well EarnedFor the 22nd consecutive year, U.S. News and World Report recognized King College among the best colleges in the nation. King was named by U.S. News as a “Best Regional University” in the South. The Princeton Review named King one of the Best Schools in the Southeast for an eighth consecutive year. While both are prestigious accolades, the Princeton Review’s is particularly noteworthy since it is based on current student assessments of academic quality and personal experiences both in and out of the classroom at King. King has also been selected by G.I. Jobs for a third year as a Military Friendly School.

King offers more than 80 majors, minors, concentrations, and pre-professional programs. We also offer both traditional and professional options for the Master of Business Admin-istration, as well as a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Master of Science in Education. As our graduates and awards attest, we’re particularly well-known for our undergraduate programs in health sciences, education, pre-law, business, economics, and ministry.

Together, King College and East Tennessee State University offer a program that allows students to obtain a doctor of pharmacy degree. After completing King’s three year pre-pharmacy program and meeting the ETSU Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy admission requirements, students will be considered priority applicants for the Doctor of Pharmacy program. Priority applicants are guaranteed an interview in the admissions process.

The King ResuméKing graduates are recognizable by their success. They have become distinguished scientists, nurses, business leaders, physicians, college professors, lawyers and more. They are going out into the world, into places like the Teamwork City of Hope in Tanzania, and changing the world.

During the past three years, an average of more than 40 percent of our graduates attended their choice of graduate school. This past year, all of our pre-pharmacy graduates were accepted into their first choice of pharmacy school and more than 80 percent of our pre-law and pre-medical graduates were accepted into their first choice of graduate school.

“We are elated that both our sons have trans-ferred into King College’s nursing program. The opportunity for them to study in an academically enriched environment where faith remains at the core is a true blessing. Joshua’s initial experience at King was such a positive departure from his previous learning environment that Jordan quickly determined he would also transfer to King. Their decisions will undoubtedly have a long-lasting impact on both their spiritual and professional lives.”

Eddie and Susan Smith Parents of Joshua - Class of 2012 and Jordan - Class of 2013

“A friend introduced our family to King when Benson was a junior in high school. It was a natural fit from the beginning, and just felt like home. King was an obvious choice for Sarah as well. She didn’t even discuss going anywhere else, because she wanted to come ‘home.’”

Mark and Lynn Redman Parents of Benson - Class of 2011 and Sarah Redmon - Class of 2014

It’s not just parents who are happy with King College. A 2009 survey of 10,000 students at private four-year colleges across the country asked students to rate areas of life and instruction at their school on a scale of one to seven, with seven being the most satisfied. It shows that our students are more than satisfied with King when compared to the ratings of students at other private four-year colleges in the region.
