Drawing a sphere using value can be very tricky. Carefully observe a spherical shape. Not only does the value on the
surface bend with the circular shape, it also has a light reflected tone on the bottom edge. This is light reflecting
from the ground back onto the form, it usually occurs in the same area where you will draw a cast shadow. Capturing
this reflection is key to drawing a successful sphere.
This is an actual photograph of an egg. can you see the reflected light on this rounded form?
Notice that the shadow also shows a variety of values. It is darkest directly under the egg, but is a much lighter grey as it moves farther away.
