O nce again, we pledge to make a new start. We had reached an end, not just to a chronological moment in a scholastic year, but perhaps, to an end to lethargy, hopelessness and valueless living. Our journey needs to take us higher and farther. Back to School is a dreaded journey, if not embraced with joy, purpose and a quest to live life meaningfully. Values for the Yatra comes to you once again, as signposts along the journey, to enable you to get up and start a new move-ment in the spiral of your life.

Our theme, this year is My Life: A Valued Journey. Everyday we tag value to things we possess. We forget that the greatest gift given freely to us is Life! We take it for granted and, in the bargain, begin to live meaningless lives. As a result, our human nature is traded for lesser animal instincts. A Culture of Death is the norm that becomes accepted. Violence, murder, rape, human trafficking, substance abuse and acts of terrorism are daily facts of life that are ever on the increase.

We recall, the 22 year old Californian University student, Eliot Rodgers who brutally killed three while injuring 13 others, in an act of well planned revenge, on 25 May 2014. His pre recorded digital footprints and a 141 page manifesto reflected in My Twisted World highlighted his struggles to find love, and acceptance. I will kill them all and make them suffer. It is only fair, he wrote. Too many young people, sitting in our classrooms, are also caught up in this Twisted World space. A twisted world, for sure, and caused by degrading value systems, unethical busi-ness deals, flooded with cheap entertainment fatigue, fanatical religious observances and failing credibility of role models. The journey of our young students is chaotic, meaningless and direc-tionless. AVEC hopes to bring a new sense of direction and meaning, this scholastic year, through its My Life: A Valued Journey Cam-paign. The journey metaphor is always dynamic, adventurous and open to the incredible. Through this year, AVEC will focus on four journey capsules: Journey to SELF, SCHOOL, SOCIETY and the SACRED. We hope these four journey capsules will add a meaning-ful and value based approach to every student. We encourage every school, teacher and student to join hands in Untwisting the World and to create a new humanity through Values. Together we can, a new world is possible! Lets build it on solid Value foundations.

School days were truly the days of enjoyment and freedom to now all the grown-ups out there! The reason being: we just had a carefree life and our parents taking care of us was the most inanely satisfying feeling ever! Back to school was so much fun! Back to being with friends, the classroom and playground environment and even new friends, all these were things we looked forward to when the school began.

The most hectic and tiresome week of the summer vacation would definitely be the last week, wherein, we would go shopping for new uniforms, monsoon- wear, stationery and a whole lot of shopping and more shopping! Once this task is done, covering and decorating the books as per our likes was the next, just to stand out in the class and to make our books look more in-teresting. The last week before the academic year commenced was like a preparation for bat-tle at most of our houses.

Finally came the D- day, our parents who were usually calm were worked up on this day as they had to ensure we reached on time on the first day of school. This was going to be their routine for the rest of the year! They managed winning in the first attempt which would follow for the rest of the academic year.

As we entered our school in anticipation, we always looked out in the crowd for familiar faces and ran to our friends and hugged them, questioned them about their summer holidays and other details we could think about. The anticipation only grew as we would go to our re-spective classrooms to receive a list of our teachers and the time-table for the rest of the year and our seating arrangements. Once the day would begin the joy of being back in school would multiply as soon as the recess bell would go off!

Memories of running or exercising on the playground for a breath of fresh air, to the cooler for water, the recess period, the zero periods, the annual day and sports day preparations,

competitions held in the school just seem so nostalgic. Every adult still does wish of that one day we could go back to just being kids!
