The ¡Vamos! London’s Guide to the Latin Summer provides Londoners with a further opportunity to sample the sheer diversity of culture that originates from Latin America. I would like to salute the good people from ¡Como No! and JungleDrums who are the prime movers behind this most welcome guide, and I would encourage all Londoners to attend these fantastic cultural events.
Yours sincerely,
Last year many in the capital joined with London’s Latin American community to celebrate the Latin American indepen-dence bicentenary at exhibitions, concerts, conferences and festivals - including several events at City Hall. This anniversary served to showcase the massive and varied contributions of those of Latin American heritage to London. Moreover, the recent No Longer Invisible: the Latin American community in London report, which was launched at City Hall in May, provided tangible evidence of this humongous eco-nomic and cultural role, and highlighted the indelible impression Latin American Londoners are leaving on the tapestry of life in London.

After a family holiday in Mexico we now love all things Mexican. We won’t miss the Lucha Future at the Round-house. Afterwards we’ll stop at Wahaca for the real Mexican street food experience, and pick up some complementary chilli seeds for planting in the garden.Beware, all evildoers of North London: the Suggs McPherson fam-ily, in wrestling masks, will be practising their moves as we tumble our way home.

Los Pericos essentially started the phenomenon of Argentinian reggae rock in the late eighties. Since then, countless bands have tried to copy their formula but none have got it quite right. This is simply because Los Pericos have always kept it real, staying close to the roots style and adding just the slightest hint of ska.
The party belongs to Oumou Sangaré, one of Africa’s finest vocalists, but Velasquez and his band might just borrow some of the thunder as the Colombian accordion-ist, who recorded some 300 LPs in his ca-reer, brings the barnstorming hits featured in his 2010 compilation for Analog Africa.

A simply unstoppable line-up, and easily the most unusual event on this summer’s musical calendar. The blaze festival throws together Congolese street-party sensations Konono #1, San Francisco indie veterans Deerhoof, and the fantastically original Argentinian songstress Juana Molina, aka the buenos Aires bjork for a night of afro-latin mayhem.

When the weather is good, Summer in Britain is glorious – and some decent music makes it even better. Upcoming highlights for me are the AfroCubism gig (June 27), when we’ll also be present-ing this great band of Cuban and Malian musicians with their Songlines Music Award. And there’s the wonder-ful Garifuna singer Aurelio Martinez (July 23). That sounds like the beginnings of a fine Summer of music.

Authentic and very popular Argentinian restaurant on Broadway Market serving the best Parrillada in town - four selections of meats, provolone cheese and mushroom served on a smoldering hot grill. Great Papas Fritas (chips), and respectable Argen-tinian wine list at wallet-friendly prices.
SABOR (South American)

Stylish restaurant dishing up Latin Ameri-can treats in Islington. Dishes include authentic Peruvian Ceviche, Moqueca de Peixe (Brazilian fish stew) & Conejo en Salsa de Chocolate (Slow Cooked Rabbit in Chocolate Sauce). Very reasonably priced cocktail and wine lists. And great service.
While Latin America is celebrated for its hedonistic music & dance scenes, more recently its cuisines have been in the spotlight on the London scene. Over the 20 years I have lived in the city, as The London Foodie, I have witnessed the emergence of a number of excellent Latin American eateries, some of which I share with you here. Londoners have acquired an insatiable appetite for An-gentinian steak houses, Mexican burritos and Brazilian rodízios. With the imminent launch of the much anticipated Ceviche,
the future looks bright for Latin American
