am glad that VAMPIRELLAmagazine seems to be settlinginto a policy of having three
regular features. But I think thatthis is only a beginning. The lengthof each of the three features shouldbe expanded and the backup storiesshould be dropped. Then, Warrenwould have a nicely balanced line ofmagazines: THE ROOK wouldfeature adventure stories, VAM-PIRELLA would have female stars,
EERIE would have series, CREEPYwould have several short stories perissue, and 1994would be left with theso-called adult stories
Rich Margopoulos certainlyseems to have found a home in thismagazine, seeingas he writes each ofthe three series. As #94 confirms, his best work continues to be onVampi. I only hope that ApocalypseInc. does not become Vampi's per-manent foe.
VAMPIRELLA's fans must beupset that Jose Ortiz' illustrationsappear in Pantha's stories ratherthan Vampi's. This fact makesPantha's stories more visually ap-pealing than anything else in themagazine.Of the three female stars,
Cassandra St. Knight is the leastappealing, both artwise and script-wise. To me, Auraleon seems bet-ter suited to weird and shockingstories. All three of the backup stories
were rather gruesome. "The BigShot" and "Gunplay" were gracedwith very good art, with DelandoNino, on the former, supressinghis tendency to follow in hisbrother's footsteps and produce in-
comprehensible layouts. "TheLast Gift" seemed a terriblydownbeat Christmas story, evenfor Warren Publishing.
T.M. MAPLEToronto, Ontario
One story inVAMPIRELLA #94 sothoroughly entertained me that I felt
that I had to write! "Gunplay" by Ar-tifact! was the best story and art I
have ever seen in a Warrenmagazine! I hope to see more of hisgreat work in future issues.
MIKE SMITHLawrenceville, I'll.
I see showers of blood and humanflesh everywhere I look! On my wayback from seeing SCANNERS (peo-
ple exploding), I bought a copy ofVAMPIRELLA #94. Leafingthrough it, I saw some poor schmuckexplode! Sure, it turns out he was amurderer, but did he deserve to ex-
plode? I think not. Please, no more ofthat. If I see one more human torsofragment, I'm afraid I might puke!
LARRY WESTONWest Palm Beach, Fla.
VAMPniELLA#94wasaborderlineissue, half quality and half birdcageliner.
The new wave of sexy covers bedammed! A cover should tell us whatto expect inside the magazine, notthe relative curvature variants ofVampi, Cassandra and Pantha."Death Machine" was okay, but no
more than that. Rudy Nebres con-tinues to do a fair job. "Druidson 54th Street" by RichMargopoulosand Jose Ortiz, wasmy favorite storyof the issue. Pantha shouldbe a regularsegment in every issue. "The BigShot" was a revenge story as it
should be: gory and explosive! I likedthat ending! "The Last Gift" stunk."Gunplay" likewise stunk, except forthe artwork. Itwas almost as good asBoris Vallejo or Richard Corben.Keep on keepin' on! Warrens are the
best magazines in all of comicdom!NICHOLAS BARRACATO
Stitlon Island, N.Y.
VAMPIRELLA #94 was anoutstanding issue, no thanks to RichMargopoulos. I've grown accustom-ed to enjoying the Vampi story andthe other stories of your wonderfulheroines, while plodding throughmost of the lesser pieces. But in this
issue, the lesser pieceswere ofamuchhigher quality.
' Gunplay' was a chilling story, with an ending that truly surprisedme. Who is this guy, Artifact!? Grabhim, Mr. Warren, and don't let go."The Big Shot" was very good too, though it was in the very familiarrevenge mode. Author MichaelFleisher kept things moving alongbriskly, and Delando Nino is an ex-
cellent illustrator(although I did noticethat he draws male characters withmuch more confidence and flair thanhe does the female characters).Oddly enough, both the VAM-
PIRELLA story and the Panthastory were predictable, routine, tired-
as-TV stories. Pantha is captured bydruids, escapes, and beats the hell
out of them. VAMPIRELLA is setupon by a robot and beats the hell outof it. Only the Cassandra St. Knightstory held any interest for me. I don'tknow if I enjoyed it because of myfascination with the possibilities oftelekinesis or the great talent ofAuraleon. Please don't letMargopoulos get away with any lessthan giving his best. Druidmythology, for example, could makea fascinating story. I guess we'll justhave to wait for it.
JAMES MALLECKPortland, Oregon
James, Artifact! is a combination ofthree very talented people: John andVal Lakeyand Laurl Buscema! You11
find another one of their stories,"Friends," in an upcoming issue!
Though I am a brand new fan ofVAMPIRELLA, I would like to enterthe "Great Vampi Art Controversy"as soon as I can, for I feel very strong-ly about it.
A short time ago, I saw a VAM-PIRELLA comic for the first time, and, out of curiosity, picked it up. It
was the artwork that caught my eye.It was issue #91.1 looked through it,
and was amazed by the linework, thedetail, and Vampi's incredible savagebeauty. The artist was Jose Gon-zales. Who? Never heard of him. I
went even further back in Vam-pi issues, and again the incredible in-
tricacy and beauty captured my at-
tention. Another name, GonzaloMayo, his artwork rivals, even sur-
passes, that of Gonzales. I thenpicked up more recent issues(#92-94)and saw achange. Vampi didnot look the same. Her powerfulbeauty had disappeared. Her sur-roundings were simpler. I felt thelossimmediately! I, anew reader, canimagine how old and faithful readersmust feel! Rudy Nebres, Pablo Mar-cos, and the other artists who haverendered Vampi are definitely goodartists by any standards, but theyjust do not have the Vampi ideal.Nebres' artwork is cruder of line andtexture, and Vampi looks too cute.Marcos gives the heroine a passableface, but he shortchanges her in all
other departments, from neck to toe.
I am going to buy back issues until I
can get as much Gonzales and Mayoart as I can afford. I can'thelp but feel
that something irreplaceable has left
your magazine.STEVEN J. KING

I've been reading VAMPIRELLAmagazine since I was in high school. Now that I'm 21 and spending sometime in the Service, VAMPIRELLAhas become part of me. I want tomake a true confession: I was veryjealous when Adam and Vampi werereally together, and happy as a pig ina snitwhen theybroke up. I am hook-ed on Vampi. I know this sounds off
the wall, but if I had it in my power to
do so, I would lift my "girl from thestars" right off the page and into mylife. I am not ashamed to say so. I amnot knocking Adam, or Cryssie (herluscious roommate), but I surely dowish I was one of them, if only for aday.
