Van Mildert has a wealth of facilitiesto suit any event. Our experienced andfriendly staff will ensure that the serviceis designed to meet your particularrequirements.

The College has an extensive range of modern accommodation including 125 en-suite rooms, which are located in self-contained buildings in spaciousgrounds.

The success of any event depends onthe food and drink. Our experiencedcatering team can cater for any occasion,from a buffet lunch between meetings toan elegant banquet for several hundredguests. For very special occasions, a drinks reception can also be arranged in the spectacular setting of the OrientalMuseum (by permission of the Curator).

Dining facilities include an impressivehall, with a capacity for 400 people and the Lakeside Room with inspiringviews across the illuminated lake,which is perfect for intimate functionsfor up to 40. In addition, guests can takeadvantage of the fine wine cellar andwell-stocked bar which is ideal for drinksreceptions. There are also parkingfacilities available adjacent to the College.

Day conference facilities are available indedicated meeting rooms throughout theyear, including the Ustinov Room whichhas a theatre licence. There is a full rangeof audio-visual equipment includingnetwork connection and data projection.The ideal venue for a range of eventssuch as away-days, training courses, and presentations.

Named after the last of Durham’smighty Prince Bishops, the Collegeis only a short walk from the historiccentre of Durham with its spectacular,world-famous Cathedral. Not only isthis inspiring Norman structure partof a World Heritage Site along withDurham Castle but it also has theaccolade of being voted as thenation’s favourite building.

The College has its own lake, a popularhunting-ground for herons and kingfishers,and overlooks wooded parkland whichstill retains its medieval ridge-and-furrow pattern. Just a stone’s throwfrom the historic pilgrim-way, VanMildert College upholds the ancienttradition of welcoming visitors andproviding hospitality for which KingCanute commissioned the communityat Durham, as “haliwerfolc”, in 1028.

Guests can stroll round the lake orcross the road to experience the delightsof the Botanic Garden, with its collectionof exotic plants, or the Oriental Museum,which houses the finest oriental collectionin England outside London. Golfenthusiasts will be unable to resist theMount Oswald Golf Course which theCollege overlooks.
