LITERACY TIPS:Did you know?Reading, writing, singing, talking, and playing with your child every day are all crucial elements for children’s success in school. Try some of these activities at home.

ReadRead a wide variety of books and keep it fun! The more exposure children have to the written word, the easier it will be to identify words when it comes time to read.

WriteGive kids crayons and ask them to make scribbles on paper. If your child is not ready to make marks on the page, holding the crayon is still great practice for writing.

SingSing songs about what you’re doing throughout the day. You can change the words to any nursery rhyme or other tune. Singing helps children hear words stretched out, which makes it easier to mimic language.

TalkTalk about all the different things you see on a walk. Kids love the sound of your voice and the more exposure they have to words, the easier it will be for them to form them themselves.

PlayPlay peek-a-boo with your baby. When kids play, they are doing important work and are figuring out the world around them.
