    1.0 APPLICATION PROCEDURE – ADJUSTABLE (GROUND LEVEL) VARI-GRIP (VGxxA)

    1.01 Pretension guy strands with hoist attached high enough to permit installation of

    1.07 Install retaining rods as follows: Place the straight end of rods (colour coded, non-gritted end) in the

    notches of the wedges so that AT

    subset on strand completely and repeat procedure

    for subsequent subsets. All rods should be placed

    into the notches on the wedges. A screw drive

    1.09 Apply a washer and one hex nut onto each UBolt leg. Tighten the hex nuts

    1.11 Onto each leg apply LONG Anti-Tamper in this order as shown in figure

    15.

    1.12 Finally apply a Hex lock nut onto each leg and lock up the Hex lock nuts with a tube

    spanner. Ensure a MIN distance of 25mm

    from Nut face closest the leg end to the end

    of the u-bolt. The application is now

    complete. If re-tensioning is required, reverse

    and repeat Steps 1.09, 1.10, 1.11,

    4.08 VARI-GRIP Dead-ends should only be used for the purpose for which they were

    designed and should not be used as tools,

    come-alongs, pulling grips, etc.

    4.09 The U-Bolt, housing, washers, nuts, wedges, and spacer bar (on Adjustable VARI-GRIP

    Assembly) may be reused provided no

    damage has been sustained to them. The

    retaining rods may be removed and

    reapplied twice, provided they are not

    distorted or damaged, within 90 days after

    initial tensioning. New Rods must be used

    after 90 days.

    4.10 PLP recommended guy tension should be maintained at approximately 10% of the

    Rated Breaking Strength (RBS) of the

    strand.

    4.11 Do not install this product under high wind or extreme weather conditions.

    This application procedure is not intended to supersede any company construction or safety standards.

    This procedure is offered only to illustrated safe application for the individual. FAILURE TO FOLLOW

    THESE PROCEDURES MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH!

    Do not re-use or modify this product under any circumstances.

    This product is intended for use by trained technicians only. This product should not be used by

    anyone who is not familiar with, and not trained to use it.

    When working in the area of energized lines, extra care should be taken to prevent accidental electrical

    contact.

    For proper performance and personal safety, be sure to select the proper size PREFORMED product

    before application.

    PREFORMED products are precision devices. To insure proper performance, they should be stored in

    cartons under cover and handled with care.


Recommended
