 OnAugust5th,wehadVas-Cog Japan2017atT o r a n omon H i l l s . T h e r e w e r e t o t a l 2 0 6participants,which is the largestnumberofVas-Cog Japan. Therewere one special lecture, twosymposia (1. Cardiac diseases and dementia, 2Cutting-edge research of brainmicrovasculard i s e a s e s a n d d emen t i a ) , Y I A , t h r e e o r a lpresentations, two educational seminars, fourcosponsored seminars and five posters. Prof.VladimirHachinski (TheUniversity ofWesternOntario) gave us a wonderful special lectureentitled “Cognition,WhiteMatter andRedFlags”and greatly attracted all audience. Thiswas thefirsttimeformetoattendtheVas-CogJapanandIhave learnedmany things. Inparticular, I chairedsymposium1andhaverecognizedagainthatthereis intimate relationbetweencardiacdiseasesanddementia.Therehasbeenabigchange incardiacdiseases in Japan by becoming super ag ingsocieties.Twentyyearsago,numberonecauseofcardiovascular deathwasmyocardial infarction,butnow treatment formyocardial infarctionhasimproved and death rate has been decreased.Instead,mobility andmortality of heart failurehave been increased. Valvular diseases are alsochanged.Rheumatic valvular diseaseshavebeen

decreasedwhereasaorticstenosisandmitralvalveregurgitat ion have been increased. Valvulardiseasesalsofinallyresultedinheartfailureandadecrease of blood f low in the brain inducesdement ia . The number of pat ients of a tr ia lf i b r i l l a t i o n h a s a l s o b e en i n c r e a s e d a ndcardiogeniccerebralinfarctionhasbeenincreased,leading todementia. Therefore, there is intimaterelationshipamongcardiovasculardiseases,strokeanddementia, and it isbecomingmoreandmoreimportanttopromotepreventionandtreatmentforcardiovascular diseases and stroke to preventdementiatogetherwithmanyrelatedsocieties.TheJapaneseCirculation Societyhasmade five-yearstrategy for stroke and cardiovascular diseaseswithmany related societies at last year. In thissensetoo,Vas-CogJapan2017wasveryimportantand had a bigmeaning forme. I would like toexpresssincerethankstopresidentUchiyama,vicepresidentKitagawa,andallpeoplewhohelpedusto hold Vas-Cog Japan2017 as well as to al lparticipants.
