sWhat you should consider: care and storage: expert tips:

The right backpack for any adventure you‘re planning. Aside from choosing a pack with the features you‘ll need for the trip, you‘ll want to look at its suspension system:for shorter tours and day trips with smaller loads (about 18 - 28 l), your best choice is a mesh tension suspension system that keeps the pack away from your back (Aeroflex); for climbing tours, mountaineering and via Ferrata , you should select a body hugging, stable suspension system like the Proflex or Anatomic NT;for trekking tours with a heavily loaded pack, the suspension system of choice should distribute the load evenly on your back and support a direct load transfer to the hipbelt. Whichever suspension system you choose, it should be stable and individually adjustable – like ours.

A tent for any kind of adventure:Dome tents: versatile tents for almost any situation, free-standing so they‘re a good choice for snow, rock or loose gravel.Tunnel tents: best space-to-weight ratio and steep side walls make these tents especially comfortable. Optimal for long trekking and bike tours. Geodesics: dome tents with poles that cross in more than two places creating a type of construction that is especially stable; Ideal for expeditions and use in stormy regions. Hybrid forms: combine the advantages of different constructions (i.e. Hogan Ultralight, Taurus UL).

Down or synthetic fiber – it depends on how you plan to use the bag. Down weighs less, is more compressible and offers a better micro-climate for sleeping than synthetic fill. But down is also less resistant to the effects of moisture and is more difficult to take care of. Down sleeping bags are there-fore a good choice for cold, dry regions and expeditions.Synthetic fill bags, on the other hand, retain their insulating properties even when wet, and are easier to take care of and store. This makes them ideal for camping trips, trekking tours and travels in humid regions.

Cleaning: stains and dirt are best removed with a damp sponge and mild soap – if the pack is very dirty, you can wash it in a bathtub (don‘t put it in a washing machine!)Guarantee / Care / Repair: Original owners have a three year warranty that covers defects in parts or workmanship. In addition, any damaged VAUDE equipment can generally be repaired directly by us with a preceding cost estimate – our repair professionals can repair (almost!) anything!

Down sleeping bags – care and storage:- air out the sleeping bag daily on trips- machine wash with NIKWAX Down Wash & Down Proof (Set)- for longterm storage fold the bag loosely to keep the loft from compressingSynthetic fill sleeping bags – care and storage:- air out the sleeping bag daily on trips- machine wash with NIKWAX Tech Wash & Polar Proof (Set)- for longterm storage fold the bag loosely to retain the loft of the insulation

A lightweight polyester fabric with a polyurethane coating is almost like human skin. So whenever possible, a high quality lightweight tent should be protected from UV radiation to keep the fabric from aging prematurely. (Use the shade of a tree or an additional tarp.)Important: if the tent gets wet or damp, dry it as soon as possible to prevent mold or mildew stains. A tent that has been packed wet in an emergency should be able to “breath“ – don‘t pack it in a plastic bag. If mildew stains should appear, these can be removed with warm, neutral soapy water (don‘t use a washing machine or solvent-based cleaning fluids). The tent should then ideally be fully dried in the sun. Clean zips with a small brush and soapy water. NIKWAX provides optimal cleaning products for cleaning and maintaining your tent (NIKWAX Tent & Gear Proof, UV Proof).

Does the pack fit right? A backpack should fit like a glove; that is why it is important to try a pack on before you buy it, and make sure it can be adjusted to correctly fit your own torso length, especially if you‘re planning on carrying a heavy load. VAUDE backpacks all feature simple back adjustment. Pack stability: VAUDE backpacks feature either a lightweight, stable framesheet or tension-mesh suspension to keep objects from poking you in your back. Tip: Load your pack and give it a test run before your trip to prevent any unforeseen suprises.

Sleeping bag temperature ratings (EU norm):Comfort = optimal sleeping temperatureLower Limit = temperature at which you won‘t freezeExtreme = protects you from freezing, hypothermia is still a possibilityJoining two sleeping bags:You can only join two of the same type of sleeping bag together. A nice way of providing two people with extra roomy sleeping quarters. Insolation:Even the warmest sleeping bag requires a sleeping pad underneath, or other type of insulation layer because the bag‘s fill is compressed by body weight.

Two tent entrances offer the advantage of being able to set up the tent withh one entrance facing away from the weather side. For every tent in our program, we offer a matching tent footprint that covers the entire floor space (including vestibules). This provides additional protection from abrasion and dirt, and reduces condensation inside the tent. “Green“ anodising: Tent pole anodising under strict environmental and recycling standards. Our tent poles feature a high break strength and can easily stand up to gale force winds. Tent poles should always be connected together completely before you put them under pressure. If, after years of use, the poles‘ shock cords loosen up, just shorten them a bit.Tip: Tents made from siliconized material without sealed seams should be hand sealed at high-stress points (tent to pole attachment points, inner tent connection points) with a silicon seam sealer before using them in very damp regions.

Care and cleaning products from the English company NIKWAX* are not only extremely

effective and gentle, they‘re also environmentally friendly.

NIKWAX cleaning products are available for all types of clothing, shoes, and gear fabrics.

ultra seaM tech – waterproof welded seaMs

Ultra Seam Tech bonds two materials together without using a needle and thread.

This technology makes the seams of our backpacks and bike bags with Ultra Seam

Technology absolutely waterproof, reduces their overall weight, and gives them a

higher tensile strength since the material isn‘t perforated by needles.

shieldtech

VAUDE ShieldTech technology protects the backpack at stress points with

an additional abrasion print. This increases the abrasion resistance at

these points and increases the lifespan of the pack.

woMen are unique – woMen‘s backpacks are too

On average, women are smaller than men, have shorter back lengths, narrower

shoulders and broader hips. This has been taken into account in the design of

VAUDE‘s women‘s backpacks. These backpacks fit perfectly thanks to their anatomical shoulder straps, hipbelts and back lengths and will win you over

with their soft materials, practical pockets and a great design.

Additional details in the women‘s backpack Cimone 55 +8: - especially soft padded s-shaped shoulder straps

loading your pack

The rule of thumb: you shouldn‘t carry more than 25 - 30% of your body weight on longer tours. Only

those who are really in top condition should take more. The closer the center of gravity of the loaded

pack is to your own, the better your sense of balance and the less you‘ll feel the load.

VAUDE suspension systeme

proflex

The Proflex suspension system was especially engineered for

alpine use. The extra lightweight body-contact back is designed

to be extremely comfortable and flexible. This flexibility was

achieved by omitting a backplate, and is essential when you

need full freedom of movement for alpine activities such as

climbing. A light, specially curved aluminium frame ensures

reliable stability and can be quickly removed if required. We

have chosen to use an innovative construction with specially

moulded foam to enhance the wearing and carrying comfort

of the system. The strategically positioned form of the back

section conforms to the curve of the spine. The viscoelastic

foam prevents pressure spots and ensures that the pack goes

along with the wearer’s movements. Proflex lets

you wear your pack close to your body when you need more

stability on alpine terrain.

Use: Climbing, Via Ferrata, Mountaineering

anatomic nt

This suspension system features a body-hugging fit and

stable load balance. A backplate ensures even load distri-

bution over the entire back. The backpack will not warp or

deform against the back when fully loaded and is therefore

extremely stable for packing.

Individually welded Tergo Pads are positioned along the

curve of the spine. These pads do not absorb moisture and

are designed to create ventilation channels that permit air

to circulate freely for superior ventilation.

Use: Climbing, Via Ferrata, Mountaineering, hiking

aeroflex

Aeroflex ensures optimum 3-way ventilation for your back.

The space between mesh and packsack allows air to cir-

culate freely, ventilating the back efficiently. A lightweight

steel spring frame ensures that this ventilation remains

effective even when the pack is fully loaded.

Use: hiking, Bike Touring

aeroflex easy adjust

The Aeroflex Easy Adjust is the all-rounder of our backpack

suspension systems. Optimum ventilation of the back is

key here, and guaranteed with the Aeroflex system. The

ventilation space, however, can be easily adjusted with the

Easy Adjust System to provide either enhanced ventilation or

increased pack control. Two side loops attached to the ven-

tilation space are used to adjust the distance of this space.

Aeroflex Easy Adjust not only provides optimum 3-way back

ventilation, it also serves a wide variety of uses.

Use: hiking, Via Ferrata, Cycling

tergolight

The classic for trekking and mountain touring. Comfortable

to carry, it is easy to adjust, dimensionally stable and helps

distribute the load onto

the hipbelt.

A pull mechanism at the back lets one quickly and optimally

adjust the back length to fit the wearer’s individual body size.

Use: Mountain Touring, Trekking

tergolight easy adjust

Best suited for long trekking and mountain tours, and can

be adjusted to custom-fit the wearer without having to first

remove the pack. Tergolight Easy Adjust has a pull loop at

the hipbelt that lets you adjust the back length of the pack

while it’s still being worn.

Use: Mountain Touring, Trekkingf.l.a.s.h. nt

The F.L.A.S.H. NT system has two pull loops that allow you to

precisely adjust the length of the shoulder straps quickly and

comfortably. A pull system at the point where the shoulder

straps exit the pack lets you adjust the individual length of the

shoulder straps for custom-fitting comfort. F.L.A.S.H. NT is used

in conjunction with the Anatomic NT and Ergonomic suspension

systems.

f.l.a.s.h.

With the F.L.A.S.H. system you can fully adjust the length of

your pack shoulder straps quickly and easily. An easy-access

Velcro closure at the back lets you regulate your ideal strap

length. F.L.A.S.H. is used in conjunction with the Aeroflex

suspension system.

Extremely lightweight, UV resistant material with excellent water shedding

properties and high tear resistance (Taurus Ultralight and Mark II light).

exterior poles

Exterior pole construction means that the outer tent and

inner tent are attached to each other and pitched simul-

taneously. They‘re faster to set up than a tent with interior

poles. Another plus- the inner tent is protected from rain

during the set up process.

Exterior pole tents come in three variations:

1. Pole sleeves (Taurus)

2. Shock cord wrap

3. Hooks or powerclips (Taurus, et al.)

1. Pole sleeves

Tent poles are glided through a robust sleeve

construction

2. Shock cord wrap

Shock cords are wrapped around a free-standing tent

pole frame

3. hooks or powerclips:

Powerclips are attached and locked onto a free-standing

frame. Very stable!

Mark tents have two entrances and provide enough space for 3 people. Mark II: the trekking tent for up to 3 people Mark II light: features double -sided siliconized fabric and is about 1 kg lighter Mark II long: longer than the Mark II, for taller people Mark III: the cross-sleeper version for 3 people

Our product developers are devoted mountain

enthusiasts who never tire of putting VAUDE gear

to the test. Of course, there’s nothing they like

better than heading out into the boundless alpine

“testing grounds” surrounding our company

headquarters to accomplish this. VAUDE emplo-

yees don’t shy back from confronting extreme

temperatures in the VAUDE Testing Center’s

climate chamber either, where they are willing

to overnight in temperatures as low as -25° to

test the thermal efficiency of a new sleeping bag.

This on-site Testing Center is unique in the out-

door industry, and it allows VAUDE to thoroughly

test all materials and technologies they use. This

testing range is fully equipped with a climate

chamber, skin model, rain test, wind tunnel, abra-

sion test and many other testing procedures and

equipment. This wide range of assessments allows

VAUDE to guarantee continuous high product qua-

lity and gives it a decisive technical edge. Extreme

demands are further placed on all products as they

are used daily by the professional athletes of the

VAUDE Sponsoring Teams and the mountain gui-

des from the German Alpine Association’s National

Training Team, all outfitted in VAUDE apparel and

equipment.
