SECURE ACCESS (SSL VPN)

  • Secure Remote Access Providers

4. Citrix Netscaler 5. Cisco ASA 5200 Series 6. Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway 2010 with DirectAccess for Windows 7 & Windows Server 2008 R2 SP11
7. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure - Web Application Acceleration
WEB APPLICATION ACCELERATION
Web Application Acceleration Providers
Citrix Netscaler Hardware Appliance
Cisco Unified Computer Services (UCS)
F5 BigIP

8. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure - Connection Broker
CONNECTION BROKER
Dedicated Desktop
Pooled Desktop
Connection Broker Providers
Citrix with XenDesktop 5
Microsoft with Remote Desktop Services (RDS)
VMware with View 4.5

9. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure - Application Streaming & Virtualization
APPLICATION STREAMING & VIRTUALIZATION
Install application on server; execute on local machine.
Advantages: installation, upgrade, roll-back, delivery speed, ease of application support (management).
Application Virtualization Providers:
Altiris/Symantec Workspace Virtualization
Citrix Application Streaming
Microsoft App-V
VMware ThinApp
4
10. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure -OS Provisioning
OS PROVISIONING
Single image on multiple workstations
Advantages: upgrade or roll-back an OS quickly. When virtual desktops use OS provisioning, (valuable) storage is saved
OS Provisioning Providers:
Citrix Provisioning Server, part of the XenDesktop and XenApp family, DoubleTake Flex, Wanova Mirage and the VMware View Composer
5
11. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure - Server-Hosted Virtual Desktop (VDI)
SERVER-HOSTED VIRTUAL DESKTOP (VDI)
Two kinds of VDI:
server-hosteddesktop
With server-hosted, desktops no longer bound to a location.Client display is delivered via Microsoft RDP, Citrix ICA/HDX, Teradici/VMware PC-over-IP
client-hosted desktop
Server-Hosted VDI Providers:
Microsoft, Citrix, Kaviza, Quest, Oracle/SUN and VMware

12. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Server-Hosted VDI GPU Acceleration
SERVER-HOSTED VIRTUAL DESKTOP WITH GPU ACCELERATION
Rich Media Experience
VDI with GPU Acceleration Providers:
Citrix HDX 3DPro
Microsoft RemoteFX
Teradici
HP RGS
7
13. REMOTE DESKTOP SERVICES (RDS)
(Also known as Shared Remote Desktop)
Every user has unique terminal server session that runs in the data center
Programs execute centrally on terminal server versus locally on desktop
desktop or application is location independent
Low TCO
Remote Desktop Services (RDP) Providers:
Microsoft
Citrix
Quest
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure RDS (Terminal Server)
8
14. CLIENT-SIDE DESKTOP VIRTUALIZATION (VDI).
(Also known as Client Hosted Virtual Desktop)
virtual machines run locally on the client device
Advantages:
hypervisor ensures that each virtual machine is hardware-independent
simultaneously use a number of virtual machines at the same workstation
Two types of hypervisors:
bare-metal client - Citrix XenClient bare-metal hypervisor
client-hosted hypervisor - Microsoft Virtual PC and MED-V, VMware ACE and Fusion, VMware View Client with Local Mode and Sun VirtualBox
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Client-Side Desktop Virtualization (VDI)

15. Client Management Services
Features:
OS deployment
Patch management
Application and client deployment
Asset management
Service desk integration
Remote control
Client Management Providers: Altiris Deployment Solution, HP Configuration Manager, IBM/BigFix, Intel LANdesk Client Management, and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Client Management Services

16. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Web Application Acceleration
Web Application Acceleration
Web Application Acceleration appliances accelerate and secure web-architected applications
Web Application Accelerator Providers:
Citrix Netscaler
F5 BigIP
Microsoft Desktop Optimized Pack (MDOP)

17. Benefits of Application Virtualization Citrix XenApp*
Eliminate application conflicts and OS instability resulting from desktop application installation
Reduce the costs associated with regression testing, deployment, maintenance, updates, and de-provisioning for applications running locally on users machines
Offer applications as an on-demand service
Lower support costs by automatically updating and repairing applications every time they are used
Speed regulatory compliance by eliminating the need for extensive testing to certify applications
Enhance security by giving IT administrators complete control over applications delivered to desktops, even those of unmanaged partners and users
* Citrix XenApp is included in Citrix XenDesktop Platinum
18. Benefits of Application Virtualization: Microsoft App-V
Transforms apps into centrally-managed virtual services that are never conflict with other apps.
Streams applications on-demand to any device.
All applications are instantly available on any licensed device depending on user rights
Standalone mode provides app caching on the local client for offline usage
App usage & license metering are managed centrally
Patch or upgrade once to the server
Fully integrates with SCCM

20. Ciscos Unified Computing System (UCS)Benefits
Higher Availability
Less Infrastructure
Unified LAN/SAN Fabric based on FCoE 10GigE
Less Management
Faster Application Deployment
Lower Operating Expenses
Repurpose Physical & Virtual Servers without Service Disruption
Single Integrated System
21. Compare Microsoft to VMware
