Class rules:

• No food, no drink. • Please do not come in late and do not get up to leave until the class is dismissed. • You are responsible for all material covered in class, whether or not it is in the book.

Homework rules:

• Homework will be assigned online at Sakai on every Thursday. They are usually due one week later or specified otherwise. One day automatic grace time. Second day late penalty -25%, later no credit.

• Students should complete the homework independently. Copy of others’ homework is not allowed and a violation to the Honor Code.

• Solutions will be posted on Sakai one week after the due date. Quiz rules:

• There will be totally 5 unannounced in-class quizzes over the semester. • Students should complete the quiz independently. No talk and collaboration are allowed. • Closed book, no cheat sheet. • No electronic devices including basic calculators will be allowed to use.

Exam rules:

• There will be two mid-term exam and one final exam. Each lasts 100 minutes. • Students should complete the exam independently. No talk and collaboration are allowed.

Syllabus: VE230 covers fundamental electromagnetics for engineering students. The topics to be taught and their tentative schedule are as follows. 1. Vector analysis 1 week 2. Electrostatics 3.5 weeks 3. Magnetostatics 3.5 weeks 4. Maxwell’s equation 2 weeks 5.
