ATRIUM Architecture of Totalitarian Regimes of the XX° Century in Urban Management Municipality of Velenje was a partner in the European project ATRIUM, which was co-financed by the South Europe programme. The project partnership involved a balanced mix of eighteen bodies (local authorities, universities, cultural & development entities etc.), distributed in 11 countries (Italy, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Greece, Serbia, Albania, Croatia, Slovakia and BiH). Project ATRIUM was designed to valorize the specific architectural heritage that has been arisen in times of various regimes in South-East Europe territory that can be labeled as totalitarian. The architectural heritage can be used to create new cultural routes, new services, and through this, new jobs. The main objective of the project was the promotion of cultural heritage of the socialist regimes for the development of cities and regions. In the framework of the project ATRIUM we developed or acquired: architectural path in Velenje, the book form of the architectural guide Velenje; a set of good corporate governance practices, the preservation and re-use and exploitation of the city heritage, the products of cultural tourism in conjunction with modern architecture, the ATRIUM’s architectural corner – free of charge architectural consulting for the citizens of Velenje.
