Veni Vidi Vici Advertising Agency

English 10 – Julius Caesar

Your Mission…In groups of three (3), you will

create an advertising campaign for either:◦Caesar (Hooray Caesar!)◦The Conspirators (Boo Caesar!)

Your campaign consists of a campaign poster and a written

explanation of your choices.

Propaganda TechniquesYour campaign also must utilize

the propaganda technique assigned to your group.

It should be obvious what propaganda technique you have.

Propaganda TechniquesThese techniques are the same ones we just looked at in the Prezi presentation. Each technique has an example using Julius Caesar/ Roman history to illustrate the technique.

BandwagonBelief that

“everyone is doing it” and you don’t want to be left out

“Join Team Caesar today – 95% of the population can’t be wrong!”

PatriotismSuggesting that

supporting a cause/belief shows your love for your country, and opposing a cause/belief makes you a traitor to your country

“A vote for Brutus is a vote for the republic!”

Bribery“Support Caesar today, and we’ll give you free Gladiator Bowl XLIV tickets!”

Giving away something “extra” to those who support your cause/belief

TransferUsing positive

words, images, and emotions to suggest that your position is also positive, or the use of negative words, images, and emotions to suggest that your position will help avoid those negative outcomes

“Tyranny, War, Suffering – Support the dark side and avoid disaster!”

Plain Folks“Caesar feeds the poor, shelters the homeless, and entertains the masses – Caesar cares about ordinary people.”

An appeal to the economic or ordinary; your cause or belief is a good idea for regular people

Card StackingPurposefully omitting facts to make one side look favorable

“Caesar went to the Capitol on the ides of March seeking the crown! Caesar desires power! Vote for the conspiracy!”

Glittering Generalities“I fight for equality. I fight for glory. I fight for Caesar.”

Words that have different positive meaning for different people, but are linked to highly valued concepts. These are words like “love”, “freedom,” “honor,” “glory,” etc.
