Llandudno celebrates London 2012 as Adain Avion, the transformed fuselage, nests in front of Venue Cymru from 8-14 July. A host of free performances, talks, films and activities will happen in and around the plane.
Nick Elphick Llandudno 8 - 14 July 2012 Venue Cymru Sunday 8 July 16:00 The Arrival Llandudno’s very own extraordinary spectacle to celebrate the London 2012 Festival. Six Glamorous Stewardesses and The Captain guide the fuselage along the promenade pulled by RGC 1404, led by Llandudno Town Band and flanked by 600 local school children who, with the assistance of Dawns i Bawb, create a choreography inspired by runway landing lights and airplane vapour trails. The plane will then nest in front of Venue Cymru. Adain Avion: mobile art space, social sculpture and travelling time capsule. Adain Avion is part of the UK-wide London 2012 Festival and is Wales’ major contribution to the Cultural Olympiad, the largest cultural celebration in the history of the modern Olympic and Paralympic Movements. The transformed fuselage of a DC09 aeroplane will migrate across Wales igniting the imagination with an exciting collection of cultural and sporting activity curated by Welsh artist Marc Rees. Over three weeks Adain Avion visits Swansea, Ebbw Vale and Llandudno presenting over 150 different events before ending its journey at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Llandow, Vale of Glamorgan. Finally the fuselage will visit the National History Museum at St Fagans, Cardiff where the contemporary folk archive of all activities will be deposited via Adain Avion’s black box. Like an iceberg, which has only one tenth of its mass visible above the waterline, this installation hides a powerful dormant mystery. What lies beneath is a very loud and ugly monster . . . of rock.

Cysgod, which translates as both ‘shelter’and ‘shadow’, attempts to offer aheightened sense of time, place and self as notions of home and away, ebb and flow,connect and divide, arrival and departure.
