NETBACKUP™ ENTERPRISE SERVER ARCHITECTURE (3 –TIER) VERITAS NetBackup™ Enterprise Server software’s three-tier architecture offers the flexibility and scalability required to back up and recover today’s largest data centers. A typical NetBackup Enterprise Server storage domain consists of one NetBackup Master Server, one or more NetBackup Media Servers, and multiple NetBackup Clients. In campus environments, or when IT operations expand geographic locations, organizations may deploy multiple NetBackup storage domains and centrally monitor all operations with VERITAS Global Data Manager™.

NETBACKUP MASTER SERVER The NetBackup Master Server represents the first component of the NetBackup Enterprise Server architecture. The NetBackup Master Server is the “brains” for all data protection activities, from scheduling and tracking client backups to managing tape media and more. In addition, NetBackup Master Server may have one or more storage devices attached for backing up the NetBackup Master Server’s local data or NetBackup client data across the network.

• Main Backup Server - Manages all Data Protection Operations (Policies, Schedules, Device Configuration, & Catalog) • Backs Up and Restores Local and Client Data to Attached Storage (Tape / Disk) • Manages Attached (Direct / SAN) Storage

NETBACKUP MEDIA SERVERS Organizations with data in several locations, or with data-intensive applications, may implement NetBackup Media Servers to distribute the data protection workload. NetBackup Media Servers, the second component of the NetBackup Enterprise Server architecture, provide high performance backups of local applications to attached backup storage while backing up NetBackup Clients over the local area network (LAN). A NetBackup Media Server can share tape resources with NetBackup Master/Media Servers over a storage area network (SAN) or back up and recovery from its own dedicated storage hardware. If a NetBackup Media Server fails, the attached NetBackup Client backups will be routed to another NetBackup Media Server.

NETBACKUP CLIENTS The third NetBackup Enterprise Server component is the NetBackup Client. Each system that will send and receive data across the local area network (LAN) to a NetBackup Master or Media Server is considered a NetBackup Client. The NetBackup Client component often represents the largest number of individual machines, but not necessarily the most data. In addition, both NetBackup Master and Media Servers include a NetBackup Client component; therefore, an additional NetBackup Client license is not required to protect the local data residing on a NetBackup Master or Media Server.

NETBACKUP™ SERVER ARCHITECTURE (2 –TIER) VERITAS NetBackup Server is a cost-effective heterogeneous backup and recovery solution designed for mid-size organizations, workgroups, and remote offices. A NetBackup Server storage domain consists of one NetBackup Server and multiple NetBackup Clients. In addition, NetBackup Server software provides an optimized data protection solution for IT operations that have remote or branch offices. In this scenario, NetBackup Server software can be deployed at each location and centrally monitored via VERITAS Global Data Manager™.

NETBACKUP ENTERPRISE SERVER AND SERVER COMMON COMPONENTS NetBackup software’s Enterprise Server and Server versions share a common set of NetBackup Clients, Options and Agents. These common components have been consolidated into a single NetBackup license, price, and SKU set. In the event an organization requires advanced snapshot-based, SAN, and data center scalability solutions, a NetBackup Server investment can be seamlessly upgraded to a NetBackup Enterprise Server solution. To perform this seamless transition, only the backup server license will require an upgrade. The following NetBackup licenses are available only for the NetBackup Enterprise Server version.

NETBACKUP ENTERPRISE SERVER - MASTER & MEDIA SERVERS For the purposes of licensing, NetBackup Master Server and Media Server licenses have four tier levels. NetBackup Master and Media Server pricing is based on the tier of the machine and not the number of domains that the machine is running. For example, a Sun E10K is a Tier 4 machine. Therefore, the customer would be charged for one (1) NetBackup Tier 4 license for this machine, no matter how many domains this machine is running. The only current exceptions are the IBM SP series and HP EPS. Please refer to Appendix B for NetBackup Enterprise Server Tier Level Definitions. NOTE: For updated hardware tier information, please refer to the tier appendix in your VERITAS price list or the VERITAS Partner Network (http://www.veritas.com/partner/PartnerHome.jhtml)

NETBACKUP ENTERPRISE SERVER - SAN MEDIA SERVER NetBackup SAN Media Servers are designed for customers moving from LAN-based client-server environments to multiple NetBackup Servers on a SAN. NetBackup SAN Media Servers enable LAN-free data protection with high performance access to shared resources. NetBackup SAN Media Servers can not backup data from networked Clients; a full NetBackup Enterprise Server Media Server license must be purchased to backup remote clients to SAN attached tape resources. NetBackup SAN Media Servers can share tape resources with NetBackup Master and Media Servers.

NetBackup Client definitions have been renamed, from Tier 1 and Tier 2 Client definitions to NetBackup Client Protect Workstation and Protect Server. All functionality remains the same.

The NetBackup 4.5 keys will turn on all NetBackup 5.x Advanced Client features, not just the initially licensed NetBackup 4.5 Option/Agents. For example, if a customer entered a NetBackup 4.5 FlashBackup key with NetBackup 5.x, the customer will have access to the Advanced Client’s FlashBackup, Instant Recovery, Array Integration, ServerFree, and BLIB features for that specific system.

NETBACKUP DESKTOP AND LAPTOP OPTION New with the NetBackup 5.0 release, VERITAS Software introduced the Desktop and Laptop Option to meet the data protection needs of corporations with desktop and laptop users that have critical data. The Desktop and Laptop Option offers continuous disk-based protection for users whether they are in the office or on the road. This new option enables users to restore their own files and maintain synchronization between multiple desktops and laptops. The Desktop and Laptop Option is priced per option and protects up to 100 clients. To protect more than 100 desktops or laptops, simply purchase additional NetBackup Desktop and Laptop Options. Current NetBackup Professional 3.6 customers with a valid support contract will be entitled to a NetBackup Desktop and Laptop Option upgrade at no additional charge.

NETBACKUP ENCRYPTION OPTION NetBackup provides all 40, 56, 128 and 256-bit encryption levels with a single NetBackup Encryption Option license. The NetBackup Encryption Option is licensed per NetBackup Client Protect Workstation and NetBackup Client Protect Server.

VERITAS GLOBAL DATA MANAGER A VERITAS Global Data Manager Domain is the collection of multiple, highly distributed NetBackup Enterprise Server, NetBackup Server, and Backup Exec storage domains. One license must be purchased for each NetBackup Enterprise Server Master Server, NetBackup Server, and Backup Exec Server managed using VERITAS Global Data Manager. In addition, at least one NetBackup Enterprise Server Master Server or NetBackup Server must be licensed as the VERITAS Global Data Manager Server. NOTE: VERITAS Global Data Manager 5.0 will support NetBackup 4.5 & 5.0 and Backup Exec 8.6, 9.0 & 9.1 servers.

NETBACKUP VAULT NetBackup Vault requires a license per physical tape drive in the vault library. The base license includes support for one NetBackup Enterprise Master Server or NetBackup Server and four tape drives. To support more than four drives, a NetBackup Vault Additional Drive license would be required for each drive. A NetBackup Vault Unlimited Drive license provides support for unrestricted number of drives per NetBackup Storage Domain. • Tape drives that are not in the library used for vault activity do not require a NetBackup Vault license • NetBackup Vault licenses are not required for virtual tape devices, only for physical tape drives within the environment NOTE: The unlimited drive SKU includes the NetBackup Vault Base license. NETBACKUP PACKAGING OVERVIEW NetBackup 5.1 is a minor release of NetBackup that is designed to sustain and extend the product’s leadership position in the market. The NetBackup 5.1 features and functionality have been designed to fully integrate and make use of other VERITAS products. NetBackup 5.1 continues to build on the NetBackup 5.0 architecture, creating a comprehensive backup product line designed to scale from the midsize, remote office and workgroup environments all the way to the enterprise. NetBackup 5.1 will continue to offer two distinct but complementary versions: NetBackup Enterprise Server and NetBackup Server. The Desktop and Laptop Option for NetBackup 5.0 will remain a separately licensed and packaged option and will not be updated for the NetBackup 5.1 release. Pricing and licensing for the NetBackup 5.1 Enterprise Server and Server products will predominately remain the same as the NetBackup 5.0 release. At this time we are announcing a few adjustments to the NetBackup for NDMP Option, Encryption Option, and Upgrade licenses. The offerings for the media and documentation will remain similar to the NetBackup 5.0 offerings. NetBackup 5.1 will differ from 5.0 in that the media kit will included additional CDs. As with NetBackup 5.0, you will order a CD kit, respective documentation kit, and the appropriate licenses. As with NetBackup 5.0 the customer will receive a certificate with license keys. Both media kits and license key(s) will be delivered to the customer together, in a single shipping box with the documentation kit being delivered separately. Once the customer has their basic NetBackup CD set (which contains both NetBackup Enterprise Server and Server), they can purchase agents and options in the future just by ordering additional license keys. As with NetBackup 5.0, neither NetBackup Enterprise Server nor Server will be available through the VERITAS Volume Licensing program (VIP). Packaging of the NetBackup product line will change with the introduction of NetBackup 5.1. With the introduction of 5.1, the entire NetBackup 5.x product will be packaged in the same media kit. Therefore, there will be one media kit and it will contain the current NetBackup 5.0 media kit contents along with the NetBackup 5.1 product. The NetBackup 5.0 40 and 56-bit encryption CDs will also be included in the kit. The NetBackup 5.1 encryption product will now be treated as an option and will reside with all the other options on the NetBackup 5.1 options CDs. This new “combination” kit will have a version of NetBackup 5.0/5.1. The NetBackup 5.0/5.1 Media Kit will also contain the VERITAS Security Services (VxSS) CD. VxSS is required for the NetBackup Access Control feature, which is a part of the NetBackup 5.0 MP1 and 5.1 products. Also included in the new media kit, on a separate CD is NetBackup 5.0 Maintenance Pack 1. Offering the NetBackup product this way provides a simplified way to obtain the 5.x product. There is just one media kit for NetBackup 5.0 and 5.1 and all of the respective database agents and options, including encryption, which was separately packaged for NetBackup 5.0. And with the Maintenance Pack and VxSS CDs included, there is only one media kit a customer will need. With the introduction of this new media kit, the old 5.0 Media Kit, 5.0 40-bit Encryption and 5.0 56-bit Encryption media kits will be End of Life (EOL). The 5.0 40 and 56-bit Encryption license SKUs will also be EOL since they will be replaced by a pair of new encryption licenses.

NETBACKUP CD LAYOUTS & MEDIA KIT The NetBackup 5.0/5.1 media kits will contain 3 CD pouches. One pouch will contain the NetBackup 5.0 CDs, one will contain the NetBackup 5.1 CDs and the other pouch will contain the VxSS CD. The NetBackup 5.0 pouch will contain 9 CDs and the 5.1 pouch will contain 9 CDs. Along with the VxSS CD, the NetBackup 5.0/5.1 Media Kit will contain 19 CDs. NetBackup 5.1 media kits will contain eleven CDs. Eight of the CDs will be used to deliver the NetBackup Enterprise Server and Server product lines with the exception of the VERITAS Global Data Manager (GDM) product. VERITAS Global Data Manager 5.1 will reside on its own CD. VERITAS Global Data Manager 5.0 will be included to provide support for VERITAS Backup Exec servers. The media kit will also have a CD that contains the VERITAS Security Services (VxSS) product. VERITAS Security Services is a prerequisite to leverage the new NetBackup Access Control feature. Similar to NetBackup 5.0, the NetBackup 5.1 media kits will contain both the NetBackup Enterprise Server and Server products.

A single NetBackup 5.0/5.1 Evaluation Media Kit will contain both NetBackup Enterprise Server and NetBackup Server software. The NetBackup Evaluation Media Kit will not contain a pre-printed license key. A separate NetBackup evaluation key must be installed to activate either NetBackup Enterprise Server or NetBackup Server and all agents and options. NETBACKUP LICENSE KEYS The licensing philosophy introduced with NetBackup 3.4 and maintained in NetBackup 4.5 and 5.0, will continue to be employed in NetBackup 5.1. All existing permanent license keys will remain valid for use with NetBackup 5.1. For the release of NetBackup 5.1, VERITAS will not be creating new version NetBackup 5.1 license keys. The SKUs currently offered for NetBackup 5.0 will be utilized for NetBackup 5.1. Only the NetBackup Media Kits will have new NetBackup 5.0/ 5.1 SKUs. There is one new feature in NetBackup 5.1 release that requires a new license key. The NetBackup Encryption Option does offer the ability to encrypt with 40, 56, 128 or 256-bit encryption, but the level of encryption is chosen by the user via a GUI, not through licensing. The NetBackup 5.1 product can be obtained through the NetBackup 5.0 SKUs. SUPPORT The new VSupport program will provide maintenance for both NetBackup 5.0 Enterprise Server and Server. VSupport Level 1 (VS1) will be 1 year of maintenance, 12x5. VSupport Level 2 (VS2) will be offered for 1 or 2 years, 24x7. The price will be 18% (VS1) 1 Yr, 23% (VS2) 1Yr or 46% (VS2) 2Yr of MSRP, respectively.

ADDITIONAL NETBACKUP PRICING AND LICENSING GUIDELINES BLADE SERVERS NetBackup components (Servers, Clients, Agents, and Options) are licensed per physical system. Therefore, each blade server will require separate NetBackup licenses. NetBackup is not licensed per rack of servers. DISK-BASED DATA PROTECTION NetBackup offers a number of disk-based data protection solutions to help increase the performance of both backups and restores. No additional licenses or costs are required when backing up or staging to disk. CLUSTER ENVIROMENTS NetBackup licenses (Servers, Clients, Agents, and Options) are required for only the active node of a clustered pair, not both active and passive nodes. However, the only exception occurs when NetBackup is licensed for Oracle RAC environments. A NetBackup Master/Media Server or Client and Oracle Database Agent license is required for all systems leveraging Oracle RAC. NetBackup Server is not supported in a clustered environment. However, NetBackup Clients, Options, and Agents that are attached to a NetBackup Server are supported in a clustered environment. MULTIPLE DOMAIN OR VIRTUAL MACHINE SYSTEMS NetBackup components (servers, clients, and database agents) for UNIX, Windows, NetWare, and Linux are each licensed once per physical machine. If a physical machine runs multiple Operating Systems and Databases, then the physical machine requires one NetBackup component for each Operating System and Database type. Please note that this policy supersedes previous licensing policies that were communicated before the date of this document. Exception: NetBackup Clients installed on IBM zSeries (OS/390) should be licensed once per virtual machine. This is an exception to the standard NetBackup policy of licensing clients once per physical machine.
