Device Update Utility (DUU) instructions for Windows users
1. Connect the computer to the MiFi® 4510L wirelessly. Then, open a Web browser on the computer and ensure that it is connected to the internet.
2. Click on the following link: http://production.4510.verizon.mifiupdates.com/Windows/MiFi4510LWin.zip
3. This will initiate the download of the software update package MiFi4510L.zip in the Downloads folder of the browser. Depending on the browser used by the user a series of pop-up dialogs will be seen while the package is downloaded. The below dialog screenshots are for Internet Explorer browser. Click Save to initiate the download of the software package.
4. Click Save again to save the file to the Downloads folder of the Web browser (or any other location)
5. Navigate to the Downloads folder (or where the software package was downloaded), and double-click on the zip file MiFi4510LWin.zip to explore the contents.
6. Double-click on the file MiFi4510DriverInstaller_v1.02.001.001.13.exe

11. Connect the MiFi® 4510L to the computer using the USB cable. The USB connector of the USB cable plugs into the host system’s USB port and the micro USB connector of the USB cable plugs into the micro USB port on the MiFi® 4510L.
12. If HID mode on the MiFi® 4510L is disabled, the USB drivers will be installed. If HID mode on the MiFi® 4510L is enabled, then the device drivers will not be installed. In order to disable HID mode, navigate to the Downloads folder, and double-click and open the DUU_Verizon_MiFi4510L_FW2.28.02.exe file. The following pop-up will appear click OK and manually power cycle the device.
13. Again navigate to the Downloads folder, and double-click and open the DUU_Verizon_MiFi4510L_FW2.28.02.exe file. The following warning message pops up. Click OK to continue.
14. This initiates the Device Upgrade Utility. Click Next to proceed.

15. Read the License Agreement, select the I agree radio button, and click Next
16. This initiates the Software upgrade on the device. Wait for the upgrade to complete. Click Finish when complete.
Device Update Utility (DUU) instructions for Mac users
1. Connect the computer to the MiFi® 4510L wirelessly. Then, open a Web browser on the computer and ensure that it is connected to the internet. Click on the following link: http://production.4510.verizon.mifiupdates.com/Mac/MiFi4510LMac.zip
2. This will initiate the download of the Mac Device Update Package. Save the MiFi4510LMac.zip file to a local folder.
3. Unzip the files and open the folder MiFi4510LMac in the Finder.
4. Double click “Drivers_v3.1.11-PS.pkg” to start install the MiFi® 4510L driver.
5. Click Continue to begin installation. Read the license agreement, and click Agree.
7. Click Install to proceed with the installation. Wait for the installation to complete.
8. Click on Restart to complete the installation.
9. Connect the MiFi® 4510L to the computer using the USB cable. The USB connector of the USB cable plugs into the host system’s USB port and the micro USB connector of the USB cable plugs into the micro USB port on the MiFi® 4510L.
10. If HID mode on the MiFi® 4510L is disabled, the USB drivers will be installed.

11. If HID mode on the MiFi® 4510L is enabled, then the device drivers will not be installed. In order to disable HID mode, open the contents of the MiFi4510LMac.zip file that was downloaded to the host computer. Double-click and run the DUU_Verizon_MiFi4510L_FW2.28.02.app file.
12. If HID Mode is enabled the following message will be seen; click OK and manually power cycle your device
13. Go to the MiFi4510LMac folder. Double click DUU_Verizon_MiFi4510L_Software2.28.02 .
14. The following warning message pops up. Note the warning. Click OK to start the installation.

15. Wait for the DUU to check the current firmware information. Once the current Software version is retrieved the navigation buttons become active. Click Next to continue.
16. Read the license agreement, check I agree to the terms and conditions, and click Next. Wait for the Software upgrade process to complete.
17. Once the Software upgrade is complete, click Finish to exit.

User Initiated Over the Air (OTA) Software Update Instructions
Note: MiFi® 4510L devices that shipped after December 1, 2011 should be able to be updated over the air following the instructions
below. For older MiFi® 4510L devices or if the over the air process fails, follow the Device Update Utility Instructions in the previous
sections of this document. Possible failures include a 403 error or No new software update available for a MiFi® 4510L on software other
than 2.28.02.
1. Open a Web browser on the computer and ensure that it is connected to the internet through the MiFi® 4510L.
2. Go to the MiFi® 4510L Web UI by typing http://192.168.1.1 or http://mifi.admin or http://vz.hotspot in the address bar.
3. Log into the Web UI by entering the MiFi® 4510L Administration Password into the Login box. Default password is admin or the password that is on the sticker on the back of the device.
7. Once the software package download is completed, the user has the option to either install now or defer the installation until the next restart and continue with normal operation. Select Install Now. Software installation is in progress, wait for completion.
8. While the installation of the software is in progress the MiFi® 4510L will lose Wi-Fi connectivity with the host and will enter a software download mode identifiable by a flashing white LED light on the MiFi® 4510L. At this point the Web UI will display the following screen.
9. Once the software installation is complete, the MiFi® 4510L will restart and the LED changes to solid green if the 4G Network is acquired or solid blue if the 3G Network is acquired.

10. The computer should be able to re-establish the Wi-Fi connection with the MiFi® 4510L if configured to auto-connect with the MiFi® 4510L and display the screen below. If not, to get to the screen below, manually connect your
computer to the MiFi® 4510L via Wi-Fi, then select the Advanced, Software Update tab of the Web UI. Click Continue to establish a connection to the internet.
11. The MiFi® 4510L will establish a WWAN connection and you will be re-directed to the Home page of the Web UI. You are connected to the internet now. This completes the update.
12. If on step# 7, the user clicks Install on next Restart button, the user is redirected to the MiFi® 4510L Web UI Home tab. They need to click on the Connect button to re-establish internet connectivity. After this they can continue to resume normal operation with the MiFi® 4510L until the next restart of the MiFi® 4510L.
13. After the next restart of the MiFi® 4510L, the internet browser will be redirected to the MiFi® 4510L Admin page where the user only has the option to install the software.
14. Follow the steps 7-11 to complete the software upgrade and resume normal device operation.
