ON PACE FOR 3PT RECORD The single-season record for three-pointers is 269 set by the 2004-05 squad. The cur-rent Cats have drained 135 attempts and the group is on pace to to break the mark during the conference tournament with 8.4 three-pointers per game. Vermont also has a chance to set break the single-season three-point percentage record at 40.0%, set by the 2013-14 Cats. Currently, UVM has drained 41.2% of its tries from downtown.

MID-MAJOR POWER RANKINGS

The Catamounts climbed to No. 21 in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll after only receiving votes last week.

GOING AGAINST THE NORM

In recent years, the Catamounts have struggled from three-point land but have since turned the corner. The 2017-18 Cats own the second-highest team three-point percentage during John Becker’s time in Catamount Country.

CHASING REGULAR SEASON NON-CONFERENCE HISTORYThe 2017-18 Catamounts have a chance to match the program record for most regular season non-conference wins since joining the America East Conference in 1979. The school mark is 10 victories by the 2016-17, 2009-10, and 2008-09 squads.

CONFERENCE DOMINANCE

The Catamounts currently own the longest regular season conference winning streak in the history of America East at 23 games:

CATS IN THE NEWS

FINDING VALUE IN UK LOSS

MidMajorMadness.com profiled Vermont’s

close loss at Kentucky and stated ‘the common

fan should now know what this program is and

what it is capable of. They should know these

Catamounts, especially Trae Bell-Haynes, the

guard with amazing finishing abilities whom

Becker called “special” at the dais tonight.’

MID-MAJOR MADNESS’ WEEKEND WRAPUP

In MidMajorMadness.com’s weekend wrap-up,

the site said the following about the Cats at

Kentucky:

‘Vermont confirmed what every America East

team feared — that the Catamounts are really,

really good, and not just for a mid-major. Ver-

mont played only six guys 10-or-more minutes

and they all contributed in a major way. On

top of that, the team showed poise down the

stretch, coming back and almost beating one

of the best teams in the nation on the road.’

CALIPARI’S QUOTE ABOUT UVM

After his Kentucky Wildcats were almost the

victim of an upset, head coach John Calipari

complimented UVM on its efforts:

“You cannot play Popcorn State and learn

anything. You’ve got to play good teams. I

didn’t realize how good (Vermont) was until I

watched the tape. Then I was like, ‘who sched-

uled this game? This is ridiculous.’ They just do

an unbelievable job. If you watch them, they

create good shots for each other each time

down, they are either shooting layups or 3s,”

Calipari continued during his post-game news

conference. “Defensively, they fight like crazy,

they are a terrific rebounding team.”

MID-MAJOR MADNESS PRESEASON POWER RANKINGS

Before the weekend, MidMajorMadness.com

completed its preseason mid-major power

Kpedi joins Ernie Duncan, Everett Duncan, and Josh Speidel as fellow Catamounts from the Hoosier State. As a senior, the 6-9 big man av-eraged a double-double, and earned Second Team IndyStar Super Team honors. He also led Lawrence North to the sectional championship game. He was selected to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) All-State Supreme 15

Team and was invited to the North/South Indiana All-Star Classic. His father Andy was a center for the Illinois Fighting Illini from 1989-91. Il-linois made the tournament during the 1989-90 season and Andy was named team MVP as year later as a senior

Nash, the No. 2 rated player out of the state of Maine, attended high school at Riverside Brook-field in Brookfield, Illinois before continuing his career at Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine. At Riverside Brookfield, he collected First Team All-Conference honors as a senior. While at Gould, Nash was named to the New England Prepara-tory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class AA

Third Team after averaging 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists last year. His grandfather Charles Holton played for the Harlem Globe-trotters from 1951-57 and rumored to be the oldest living Globetrotter.

Patella, a two-time NEPSAC All-League selection, comes to Burlington from Vermont Academy. Pa-tella helped the Wildcats to a NEPSAC Champion-ship during his junior season and a preseason No. 1 ranking as the country’s top prep team heading into his senior campaign. Before Vermont Acad-emy, Patella was a 1,000-point scorer at Lenox High School before transferring prior to the start

of the 2015-16 season.

Smith hails from the same high school, Bill Crothers Secondary, as reigning America East Player of the Year Trae Bell-Haynes. Smith is the all-time leading scorer at Bill Crothers and was voted Athlete of the Year as a junior and senior. As a senior, he was named team captain and earned First Team All-Ontario Scholastic Basket-ball Association honors. In the classroom, Smith was valedictorian of his graduating class. Last

summer, he competed for Team Canada in the FIBA U17 World Cham-pionships. He was one of 10 Canadian players invited to Mexico to take part in the NBA’s Americas Team Camp last summer.
