VERRADO ASSEMBLY AND VERRADO COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION, INC. On behalf of the Boards of Directors of Verrado Assembly (VA) and Verrado Community Association, Inc., (VCA) it is our pleasure to highlight some of our 2015 accomplishments:

How do you define the spirit of Verrado? Perhaps it’s the feeling of kindness among your neighbors, or the connectivity within your community.

Perhaps the spirit is most evident during Verrado’s signature events series. Springtime kicks off Founder’s Day and the not-to-be missed Block Party on Main Street. The 2015 celebration rocked with the talents of Sugar Ray for residents and guests to enjoy. The exciting event series continued with our Spirit of Independence Celebration™. Its nostalgic Children’s Bike Parade filled our streets with sounds of laughter and ringing bicycle bells. Adding to this 4th of July celebration was our retro-themed Splashback Pool Party. The Fete & Fireworks display paid tribute to our great country with a jaw dropping fireworks show over Verrado. The event series concluded with Hometown Holidays. Its Annual Tree Lighting Celebration thrilled residents along with St. Nick’s heartwarming visits with children.

The spirit of our community extends past events and into our extensive offering of amenities. The 2015 grand opening of our resort-style Heritage Swim Park energized the Heritage District with its large recreation pool, smaller pool, and splash pad. The Heritage Swim Park Ramada and The Giving Tree Pavilion with Grand Lawn offers yet another option to gather with family and friends alike.

Some find Verrado’s spirit in its every day conveniences close to home. In 2015, we proudly introduced a new mixed-use district called Marketside to serve as home to The Corner Store (CST) and Culver’s. Whether it’s a quick car wash or famous ButterBurger, you don’t have to travel far.

Or, perhaps you find community spirit in our quieter, more serene areas such as 72 uniquely designed parks or Verrado’s Linear Path.

No matter where you find it, we share your sense of community pride and unity. We hope you enjoy this recap on 2015 and know it continues to be a privilege to serve you, our residents, as we work upward and onward into Verrado’s future.

Sincerely,

Melinda Gulick Chair of the Boards

Todd Hornback Executive Director

Verrado’s Founder’s Day weekend long celebration is chock-full of community traditions, which also includes unique elements and added surprises every year.

COCKTAIL PARTYThe Cocktail Party on Friday evening provided an opportunity for the Verrado Assembly and Verrado Golf Club® to host a fabulous evening for residents and community partners to mix, mingle and dance the night away. Amongst the crowd pleasing hors’ d’oeuvres was a gracious spread by Grazie, wine and craft beer tastings, photo booth fun, star gazing with the Astronomy Club of Verrado and a 50/50 chipping challenge raising $200 for Feed My Starving Children.

HERITAGE RUN AND PANCAKE BREAKFASTBright and early the following morning, over 100 residents rose to the challenge of a 10K, 5K and 1 mile run during the 2nd Annual Heritage Run and Pancake Breakfast. The participants ran through

neighborhoods and paths and trails system of the Heritage District before finishing at the Buckeye Fire Station in Verrado.

The United Buckeye Fire Fighter Charities served griddle pancakes along with volunteers from Feed My Starving Children. Generous donations and proceeds from race registrations raised $720 for each charity.

BLOCK PARTYOur Saturday Night Block Party rocked Main Street and the Village Green as talented performers took the stage during the Resident Variety Show hosted by Anderson Institute of Music and Performing Arts. Leading up to the concert, the crowd engaged in family-friendly activities sponsored by partners including EPCOR, Main Street Lofts, Summit Community Church and Verrado Realty. Roughly 3000 residents and their guests sang along with Sugar Ray.

COMMUNITY PICNICTraditions and competitions were the name of the game at Sunday’s Community Picnic at Founders Park. Residents, including our canine friends, earned spirit award points by participating in DJ games and activities hosted by Verrado Clubs and community partners: DLC Resources, EPCOR Water, The Goddard School®, and Vitras Swim Club.

Verrado’s Spirit of IndependenceBIKE DECORATING PARTY Verrado’s Spirit of Independence started off with a bang when over 80 residents attended the Bike Decorating Party at The Center on Main™ on the eve of July 4. Pre-purchased bags were filled with all of the red, white, and blue supplies needed to create a patriotic masterpiece on wheels.

11TH ANNUAL CHILDREN’S BIKE PARADE Bright and early the following morning 500 residents donning patriotic flare flocked to Main Street to ride, walk, stroll, and march to festive beats in the 11th Annual Children’s Bike Parade. The parade was kick started with a routine by the Verrado High School Pommies followed by the inspiring sounds of the Sundin Sisters as they belted the national anthem. In traditional form the Buckeye Fire Department led the parade with an engine truck while the crowd of speedsters and strollers trailed behind until their pedals could go no more. The crowd was indulged by Uncle Sam (resident volunteer, Jack Boucher), The

Goddard School handing out helium-filled balloons, Verrado Realty dishing out tasty treats, and Tempo Urban Bistro serving up a pancake breakfast added even more fun to the parade.

SPLASHBACK POOL PARTY Later that day residents attended the Splashback Pool Party, the grand opening of the Heritage Swim Park. The retro-themed pool party was packed with entertainment including a surprise dance number by a local teen group, and a DJ who kept the crowd moving and grooving throughout the afternoon with poolside games and activities. Swimmers and sunbathers enjoyed activities hosted by Vitras Swim Club and Verrado Men’s Football Club including a July 4 craft with help from volunteers. Bashas’ served up 500 complimentary old-fashioned root beer floats and EPCOR Water handed out refillable infusion water bottle souvenirs.

FETE & FIREWORKS The fun didn’t stop there. Celebrations continued into the evening during the Fete & Fireworks event at the Verrado Golf Club® consisting of All-American BBQ fare, traditional summertime competitions and spectacular fireworks lighting up the skies over Verrado for a jaw-dropping finale to another memorable Independence Day.

THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERSAll of these community traditions were made possible with the inspiration, hard work, and dedication of over 40 resident volunteers.

Last, but certainly not least, Anderson Institute of Music and Performing Arts along with their students and Phoenix Hill band entertained with delightful vocal and instrumental holiday music and caroling.

The highlight of the evening was the lighting of the tree with the honors performed by Verrado High School’s amazing football team, the Verrado Vipers. The tallest tree thus far, standing proud at 50 feet, the beauty was lit as the crowd watched in awe and marked the beginning of the much-anticipated season.

WHO IS THE UTILITIES COUNCIL (UC)?The UC is a chartered advisory group of volunteer Verrado residents. Established 3rd quarter 2015, it operates under the overall direction of the Board of Directors of the Verrado Community Association, Inc. (VCA), advising on all matters related to regulated utilities and their impact on our community.

HOW CAN THE UC HELP ME?The UC provides a number of free products and services to help you understand and manage your utilities and their associated costs:

• They provide consultations and assessments for residents in workshops and in their homes on opportunities to manage utility usage

• They share vital information within the community on their Website and Facebook page

• They help review and understand your bills and the charges

• They help connect you to representatives at utilities with whom we have relationships

• They share our experiences from other residents who may have had similar issues and how they were resolved

• They show you how you can resize your water meter to reduce your water bills

WATER & EXTERIOR PAINTING WORKSHOPS In partnership between the Utilities Council and Verrado Community Association, Inc., there were two Water Workshops in 2015 designed to aid residents in determining key areas to save money on individual water bills.

In February, the Verrado Design Review Committee, in partnership with JT Elbracht, Design Consultant, hosted a Verrado Community Workshop. This informational workshop covered material on choosing exterior paint colors for your home.

As the community continues to mature, many homes have reached their exterior paint’s longevity in the Arizona sun. We encourage owners to contact the VCA for questions and guidance regarding exterior painting and modifications. Please remember prior approval must be obtained from the Design Review Committee, as outlined in the Charter, for any exterior home changes or modifications.

Opening in June, this first-class facility pays tribute to the classic municipal aquatic facilities of the past, but with modern luxuries to accommodate today’s active lifestyle. The Swim Park is the perfect addition to the Heritage District’s amenity complex, which is adjacent to the new Verrado Heritage Elementary School.

POOLS FOR EVERYONEAt the epicenter, this resort-style facility provides a large recreation pool and smaller pool especially designed for little swimmers. Heaters and chillers are equipped in both pools and feature zero-entry areas making them easily accessible for swimmers of all ages and abilities. And talk about exciting, the splash pad adjacent to the toddler pool is suited with LED lights offering another element of amusement while the sun goes down!

SWIM PARK RAMADA AND GRAND LAWNCabanas, umbrellas and shade structures provide refuge from the Arizona sun, while inviting lounge chairs and Adirondacks entice neighbors to relax and stay awhile. Barbecue and picnic areas are readily

available, including a fire pit to gather around and stay cozy on brisk evenings. Designated special use spaces include the Heritage Swim Park Ramada located off the toddler pool, and The Giving Tree Pavilion with Grand Lawn available for private reservations through verrado.com.

HERITAGE SWIM PARK IS HIGH TECHThe fun never stops with built-in high tech features such as Wi-Fi and speakers enhancing the Swim Park’s entertainment factor. With a beautiful new facility also comes an emphasis on safety and security by means of required electronic card access, posted Swim Park rules, and surveillance system. Keeping our pools clean and safe is key to having everyone healthy and happy, and helps keep our swimming pools open.

The Heritage Swim Park is a great complement to The Center on Main’s fitness pool, providing the community with even more options to enjoy their leisure time. For years to come, neighbors are sure to make fond memories at the Heritage Swim Park.

SUMMER OF SPLASHAs Arizona temperatures rise, the Heritage Swim Park is by far the “coolest” place to be in Verrado. The expansive pools and shaded areas offer space for those that want to relax and lounge as well as space for those that prefer to socialize and play.

The Summer of Splash brought together a sizzling lineup of poolside activities and give-a-ways for neighbors of all ages. Island party, dive-in movie, pool side games, DJ’s and lots of fun surprises like hats, towels, cups and balls – it was awesome!

• Live music by Greg Anderson (July 17) • Island Party with live music by Sean Mireau (July 24)• Dive-in Movie featured Goonies (July 31)

What’s Happening in VerradoMARKETSIDE DISTRICTVerrado’s newest mixed-use district, Marketside, is located at the convenient and well-traveled interchange of I-10 and Verrado Way. Marketside really is the gateway to Verrado.

This district encompasses 60 acres, and is a substantial part of Verrado’s overall entitlement of 4.2 million square feet of commercial space.

In 2015, we announced more convenience coming close to home with the opening of The Corner Store (CST) and Culver’s to the Marketside District.

CST Brands, Inc. closed on the approximately 1.6 acre deal in Verrado’s Marketside District in July. CST convenience store, self-service fuel and drive-through car wash facility opened in 2016.

DAR & GSL Enterprises of Arizona, LLC. purchased 1.3 acres from DMB in December, preparing to bring Culver’s newest franchise location to Verrado’s Marketside District. Culver’s, a leading fast and casual restaurant chain, became famous for its ButterBurger and Fresh Frozen Custard.

Continued Marketside District development could include restaurants, shopping, medical, hotels and residential units that will be developed over the coming years. The district’s architectural character will complement the hometown feel of Verrado, while being more accessible to a larger market.

MOVIE UNDER THE STARSWith the cooler temps casting a net on the community, residents happily gathered with family and friends under the stars for a feature film hosted by the Verrado Assembly. The location changes throughout the year, but the laughter and fun remain, and of course, the complimentary popcorn.

A variety of displays including Buckeye PD K9s, Buckeye FD, Community Paws dogs for adoption, vendors, face painting and so much more were available on the Village Green.

BLOOD DRIVE • DECEMBER 5Forty-six residents attended the Blood Drive held at The Center on Main helping the United Blood Service to reach 119% of their blood drive goal. Thank you to resident volunteer, Cathie Pitts, for leading this important effort again this year.

The Giving Tree program encourages the spirt of giving to flourish in the Verrado community through volunteerism and philanthropic initiatives. During Volunteer Appreciation Week, our Giving Tree partner organizations highlighted the following Verrado residents for exemplifying that incredible spirt of giving in the community.

BUCKEYE POLICE DEPARTMENT Mike Harley – Hillcrest The Buckeye Police Department recognizes Mike Harley for his outstanding service by demonstrating servant leadership on a daily basis. Mike is involved in Citizen Patrol; if you see a black and white Police Volunteer vehicle, it is most likely Mike doing his rounds in and around Verrado. He is also involved with the motor assist group and helps with traffic control. Thank you Mike Harley for your service to our community, and thank you for your dedicated service to the Buckeye Police Department.

SUMMIT COMMUNITY CHURCHBernadette Baun – Summit Bernadette Baun volunteers her time and talents to serve God and Summit Community Church. As the leader for the Sunday morning hospitality team, she coordinates the volunteers and provides a welcoming environment for everyone to connect with others after services.  She also volunteers at many community events throughout the year with her husband, Ray.

VERRADO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLJoy Brzezinski – Glen Joy Brzezinski is a resident of Verrado and also is a grandmother of two SuperSTAR students. For the last several years, Joy has volunteered twice a week at Verrado Elementary School. She normally volunteers for her grandchildren’s teachers but goes above and beyond making copies for all teachers as well as the office. Joy truly is a treasure and we are very happy to have her as one of our community volunteers.

WATERISLIFEOlivia Blessing Bender – GlenOlivia supports and cares for those in our world who go without life’s most basic needs being met. This year she has traveled to Maasai Villages in Kenya and to Haiti working to bring clean water, sanitation and hygiene solutions. Her dedication over the years is endless, whether it’s supporting WATERisLIFE teams, staff, volunteers, or going herself to help. It is hard to express how much impact she has made on the lives of others.

Verrado Leadership®

Created through the Verrado Assembly, Verrado Leadership (VL) works to enhance the quality of life for Verrado residents by cultivating a community of leadership and creating a legacy that touches the hearts and lives of residents today and for years to come.

Each neighborhood (organized by our unique neighborhood park identities) is represented by a Neighborhood Leader(s) committed to facilitating neighbor-to-neighbor connections by:

1. Providing a warm welcome to new neighbors.

2. Acting as a neighborhood organizer for events and activities.

3. Serving as an ambassador for the community and Verrado Assembly.

Verrado Leadership continues to grow, and in 2015, Class IX welcomed 50 new members, for a total of 133 leaders.

As new residents move into the community, Verrado Leadership is quick to provide a warm welcome by delivering 353 pies in 2015.

The White Tank Mountains ConservancyThe White Tanks are one of Verrado’s mostincredible features and also one of the bestconserved natural areas in the Phoenix metropolitanregion. As such, our community is part of a coalitionspearheading efforts to ensure Verrado and Victoryresidents alike have access to the beautiful WhiteTank Mountains for generations to come.

The White Tank Mountains harbor incredible naturaland cultural resources including a robust mule deerherd, mountain lions, Javelina, and petroglyphs. Inaddition, the mountains feature two regional parks:the White Tank Mountain Regional Park, managedby the Maricopa County Parks Department; andSkyline Park, managed by the City of Buckeye.Management of these large recreation areas strivesto balance the preservation of natural and culturalresources with the continued use by recreationists, naturalists, and the general public. www.wtmconservancy.org

Yes, Victory was created for those who are 55+ but one of the best things about living here is the connection with the vibrant town of Verrado.

VICTORY AT VERRADO WELCOMED ITS FIRST FAMILY Moving from Pennsylvania in June, the Niehus family join their children and grandchildren who already live in Verrado, making them a truly multi-generational family.

For DMB, this is always a major milestone. First families are true pioneers who become a part of the rich journey of creating a new community.

PHOENIX MAGAZINE INCLUDES VERRADO AMONG THE 10 HOTTEST NEIGHBORHOODS OF 2020This Phoenix Magazine recognition is part of a compilation of where the Valley’s hottest neighborhoods will be five years from today. Victory was specifically recognized as a

wonderful spot for wine-lovers, as it will be celebrated for its working vineyard where Victory residents can join in on the fun with first-crush parties and wine-making classes. Victory was also called out for being so tailor made for the modern Boomer. Cookie-cutter homes and shuffleboard are nowhere in sight. Instead, Victory residents can enjoy cooking classes, paint nights, Zumba, revolving craft beers, and more. And for those passionate about lifelong learning, Victory residents can take a class or learn a new language.

Residents can stay active in a state-of-the-art fitness center overlooking the White Tank Mountains. And hiking and biking are sure to be popular activities with plenty of trails threading throughout the scenic property. Golf is also taken to a new level, with a Tom Lehman designed 18-hole course where residents can play to their hearts content before carting back to the Vic clubhouse for a craft cocktail.

WHERE TO RETIRE MAGAZINE NAMED VERRADO ONE OF 50 BEST MASTER-PLANNED COMMUNITIES IN THE UNITED STATES. The communities selected reflect evolving active-adult needs for amenity-rich neighborhoods that foster a rich sense of community.

No wonder Verrado made the list. Verrado has miles of path and trials, one spectacular 18-hole golf course (and another coming in late 2016), 77 parks and counting, and over 50 resident clubs and groups to choose from.

Then there’s The Center on Main, the community center where residents gather to have fun. In the Heritage District, residents can hang with friends at the Verrado Coffee Company or the Heritage Swim Park.

The Big Patio Concert Series Comes to Victory at Verrado® • October 3 | The Sugar Thieves • November 21 | Sara RobinsonResidents of all-ages broke out their blankets and lawn chairs to welcome The Big Patio Concert Series in the Victory District. Developed in partnership with the West Valley Arts Council, this dynamic music series brings friends and neighbors together for an afternoon of music, fun, and delicious treats.

COMMITMENT TO HIGH QUALITY EDUCATIONEducation is a core value for Verrado and DMB. As such, DMB communities traditionally put schools at the heart of each community they build. Distinct neighborhoods with connections to schools and parks are deliberately designed to enrich people’s lives and add value to the greater communities of which they are a part.

Verrado’s schools are committed to excellence and continue to share the values that make our community so special. Continuing accomplishments translate into strong parent involvement, teacher dedication and student-centered environments where rich educational opportunities empower our students to be productive.

VERRADO WELCOMES VERRADO HERITAGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (VHES)In 2015, Verrado became home to its fourth high-performing public school in the community. The Litchfield Elementary School District (LESD) approved plans for a new K-8 school in the Heritage District. Located near the fire station just west of Verrado Way and north of Thomas Road, VHES opened its doors on August 3 for the 2015/2016 school year.

The decision to build a new school in Verrado was based on significant projected growth of the surrounding area in coming years. The remarkable two-story brick building is the first K-8 school in the district and houses approximately 950 students divided among four classes per grade level.

VHES promotes an atmosphere of leadership and inspiring greatness in every child. It provides opportunities for students to discover their own strengths, talents and gifts through a program called “The Leader in Me.”

Welcome to Verrado, VHES, we look forward to watching the growth of all the future leaders that will come through your doors and thrive in your classrooms.

UMBRELLA PROJECT In 2015, students of Verrado High School targeted La Guaria Elementary School in Costa Rica to raise funds for technology and school supplies through the Umbrella Project. Schools from Arizona, New York and Costa Rica have painted over 100 umbrellas with the theme: “One World in Harmony.”

These umbrellas, plus an additional 100 umbrellas, were displayed and given up for a $50 donations at an event at Hillside in Sedona, April 24, 25 and 26.

The Umbrella Project is a 503C non-profit global children’s art initiative that was founded by Hilda Brown 25 years ago. The Umbrella Project’s mission is to teach children that they can make a difference in the world through art and service.

THE GODDARD SCHOOLIn 2015, The Goddard School earned a three-star “Quality” rating as a result of its Quality First assessment. Quality First standards are high…those achieving Star Ratings in the quality levels (3 stars and above) have met these standards. The Goddard School also kicked off fundraising efforts for their 501(c)(3) scholarship program, S.E.E.D. (Supporting Early Education & Development), receiving a total of $1,500 in donations from individuals and events. S.E.E.D. is also a member of The Giving Tree Council.

Great Schools = Great Kids

Verrado High School, Buckeye, No. 1,747 in U.S.Arizona scored in the middle of the pack of U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 Best High School Rankings. Ranking 26th, only 9.7 percent of Arizona’s 463 eligible high schools had gold and silver medals. Six schools had gold and 39 had silver. Verrado High School received the silver medal.
