Warning for powersupply on primary side

The primary side of the powersupply including the heatsink carries live mains voltage when the

player is connected to the mains even when the player is swiched off !

This primary area is not shielded so it is possible to touch copper tracks and/or components when

servicing the player. Service personnel have to take precautions to prevent touching this area or

components in this area.

The primary side of the powersupply has been indicated with a stripe-marked printed on the printed

wiring board.

Digital VideoDVD-Video uses state-of-the-art MPEG2 data compression technologyto register an entire movie on a single 5-inch disc. DVD’s variable bitratecompression, running at up to 9.8 Mbits/second, captures even the mostcomplex pictures in their original quality.The crystal-clear digital pictures have a horizontal resolution of over 500lines, with 720 pixels (picture elements) to each line.This resolution ismore than double that of VHS, superior to Laser Disc, and entirelycomparable with digital masters made in recording studios.DVD-Video discs conform to either the PAL or NTSC video standard.This player can play both PAL and NTSC discs, presenting them in thebest possible way on your multi-standard TV screen.As the universal video system of the future, DVD-Video offers optimalpictures on any TV screen.

Video CDYou will recognize Video CDs by the logo shown on left.Depending on the material on the disc (a movie, video clips, a dramaseries, ect) the disc may have one or more tracks. Tracks may have oneor more indexes, as indicated on the disc case. To make playback easyand convenient, your player lets you move between tracks and indexes.Some Video CDs have Play Back Control (PBC), which is a predefinedplayback sequence stored on the disc.

Super VCDSVCD discs is the super VCD 1.0 Standard based on the Standard of theinformation Industry Department of the People’s Republic of China.

Audio CDAudio CDs contain music tracks only.You will recognize Audio CDs by their logo which is shown on left.You can play audio CDs in conventional style through a stereo system,using the keys on the remote control and/or front panel, or via the TVusing the On-Screen Display (OSD).

UnpackingFirst check and identify the contents of your DVD-Video player package.You should have the following items.– DVD-Video player– Remote Control with batteries– Audio/video cables– AC cord– Instructions for use

If any item is damaged or missing, contact your retailer or Philips.Keep the packaging materials; you may need them to transport yourplayer in the future.

Placement– Place the player on a firm, flat surface.– Keep the player away from domestic heating equipment and direct

sunlight.– In a cabinet, allow about 2.5cm (1 inch) of free space all around the

player for adequate ventilation.– The lens may cloud over when the DVD-Video player is suddenly

moved from cold to warm surroundings. Playing a CD/DVD is notpossible then. Leave the DVD-Video player in a warm environmentuntil the moisture evaporates.

Connection

General Explanation¶ Depending on your TV and other equipment you wish to connect, there

are various ways you could connect the player. Possible connections areshown in the following drawings.

¶ Please refer to the manuals of your TV, VCR, stereo system or othermanuals as necessary to make the best connections.

¶ For better sound reproduction, connect your player’s audio output tothe audio input of your amplifier, receiver, stereo or A/V equipment (see[Audio Connection]).

Caution:– Do not connect the player’s audio output to the PHONO

IN jack of your audio system.– Do not connect your DVD-player via your VCR because

video quality could be distorted by the copy protectionsystem.

Video connectionVideo CVBS connection

¶ CVBS video output is the most common video format and it combinesbrightness signal and chroma signal together by using only one cable foroutput. Plugs of the cable are in yellow colour.

¶ Connect the Video output on the rear panel of the player to thecorresponding input on the TV using the cable supplied.

S-Video connection

¶ S-Video output is a video output that refers to two separated signals,brightness signal and chroma signal. The advantage of this connection isby reproducing a high quality picture.

¶ Connect the S-Video output on the rear panel of the player to thecorresponding input on the TV using the S-Video cable (not supplied).

Component video connection

¶ Component video includes three types of signals, they are Y; CBLUE ;CRED.

¶ Connect the Y/CB/CR output on the rear panel of the player to thecorresponding input on the TV using the component video cable (notsupplied).

Caution:– Do not connect the component video and S-Video

connection to the TV at the same time (see [Optionbetween component video and S-Video] for details).

Audio connectionConnect Audio output to TV

¶ To use the TV speaker for sound reproduction, connect the audio leftand right outputs on the rear panel of the player to the correspondinginputs on your TV with the audio cable supplied.

Connecting to an A/V receiver equipment

Digital multi-channel connection provides the best sound quality. For thisyou need a multi-channel receiver that supports one or more of theaudio formats supplied by your DVD player (Dolby DigitalTM , MPEG 2and DTS). Check the receiver manual and the logos on the front of thereceiver.

Connect to A/V receiver with digital coaxial cable

¶ Connect the player’s digital coaxial output to the corresponding input onthe receiver using the normal audio or video cable which is supplied.

¶ You will need to set the item [AUDIO] in setup menu for adapting yourreceiver. Please refer to the chapter [Setup Menu] for details.

¶ In this case, do not use the player’s audio left and right output.

NOTE:– If the audio format of the digital output does not match the capabilities of

your receiver, the sound will be muted.

Analog connection to a multi-channel A/V receiver with 6CHconnectors

¶ This DVD player contains a multi-channel decoder. Connect the audiooutputs to the corresponding inputs of your A/V receiver with six audiocables. In the Audio output menu, set Analog output to 6 Channelsmodel. (please refer to setup menu in page 22 for details.)

General operation

Connecting the power supply1 Plug the female end of the power cable supplied into the Power

connector on the rear of the player.2 Plug the male end of the cord into an AC outlet.

Turning on the power¶ Make sure that audio and video output has been connected to TV.¶ Choose the available AV mode and connect your TV set to our DVD

player.¶ Press power on/off button on the front panel to turn on the player.

Loading discs¶ Press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the front player to open the disc

tray.¶ Load your chosen disc in the tray, label side up (also when a double

sided DVD is inserted). Make sure the disc is placed properly in thecorrect recess.

¶ Gently push the tray, or press OPEN/CLOSE button to close the tray.Playback will start automatically.

NOTE:– If your TV system is not align with your DVD player, the player might not

work. If this happens, you can press the OPEN/CLOSE key to open thedisc tray and press the ZOOM key on the remote control to enforce theplayer to adapt to your TV system.

Options between component video and S-Video

¶ Ensure that the DVD player and television has been connected by analternative cable.

¶ In OPEN mode, press the SLOW BACKWARD key to choose analternative setting depending on the video connection between theDVD player and television (refer to chapter [Video Connection] at page11 for details) and the word “ CVBS+ SVIDEO” or “ YCbCr” appears onthe TV screen.

¶ The DVD player will execute to the corresponding setup automatically.

NOTE:– If there is some image distortion, check if the video connection is

corresponding with the operation on your remote control. If not, press theSLOW BACKWARD key again and repeat the above steps.

Remote control battery installation¶ Open the battery compartment cover.¶ Insert two batteries inside the battery compartment.¶ Close the cover.

CAUTION:– Don’t mix old and new batteries. Never mix different types

of batteries (standard, alkaline, etc.)

Remote control operation¶ Unless mentioned, all operations can be carried out with the remote

control. Always point the remote control directly at the player, makingsure there are no obstructions in the path of the infrared beam.

¶ When there are corresponding keys in the front panel, they can also beused.

STOP key on the remote control

¶ You can resume the play from the point at which you stopped last timeby pressing the STOP key once.

¶ It will start from the beginning if you pressed the STOP key twice tostop a playback.

PAUSE/STEP key on the remote control

¶ To get a still picture, press PAUSE/STEP key during playback.¶ To step forward to the next frame picture, press PAUSE/STEP key again.¶ To replay, press PLAY key.

Search

¶ To search the content in fast speed, press the SEARCH key for fastforward/backward searching.

¶ Press the SEARCH key again to accelerate the speed during searching.¶ While you find the point you want, press PLAY key to return to normal

playback.

Slow Forward / Backward

¶ To get slow motion effect during playback, press SLOW FORWARD/BACKWARD key.

¶ Press the SLOW key again to have different playback speeds.¶ Pressing the PLAY key will return to normal playback.

Audio control during playback

Mute

¶ Press the MUTE key to switch the sound output.¶ Press the MUTE key again to remove the mute.

Volume

¶ Press the VOLUME + or VOLUME – to adjust the loudness.

Surround sound key

¶ The DVD decoder circuit can simulate virtual surround sound effects.You can press the Surround key or the Sound button on the front panelto switch the sound effect.

NOTE:– In Mute mode, volume and surround sound function won’t be affected on

digital coaxial output or digital optical output.

Playing title/chapter

Title & chapter (T&C)

A DVD disc may have one or more titles , and each title may have oneor more chapters. It depends on the content (a movie, video clips, adrama series, etc) on the disc.

Playing a title

¶ After loading a disc, information about the content shows on the screenwaiting for your selection. You can also press the TITLE key on theremote control to return to the title menu during playback.

¶ If the items of the menu are numbered, press the appropriate numberkey on the remote control, if not, use the 341 2 keys to highlight yourselection.

¶ Press the SELECT key to confirm your selection.

Playing a chapter

¶ When a title is selected, it may include one or more chapters.¶ Whenever you want to watch another chapter during playback, press

MENU/PBC key to return to the chapter menu and select again, if not,press the PREV/NEXT key.

REPEAT key

You can repeat a title or a chapter by pressing the REPEAT key.Refer to the instruction on the screen.

¶ Press the REPEAT key once to repeat the current chapter.¶ Press the REPEAT key twice to repeat the current title.¶ Press the REPEAT key third time to quit the repeat mode.

A-B key

A-B key enables you to choose a certain piece of program to repeat.Refer to the instruction on the screen.

¶ Press the A-B key once to set a start point.¶ Press the A-B key twice to set an end point. At the same time, it will

begin to repeat from the start point.¶ Press the A-B key the third time to quit A-B repeat mode.

GOTO key

You can switch titles, chapters or play from any point of the disc by usingthe GOTO key.

¶ Press the 34 keys to select the TIME to set a start point time.–Enter an available number (e.g. 0:34:27) and press the SELECT key toconfirm.

¶ Press the 34 keys to select the TITLE/CHAPTER to set a certainchapter.–Enter an available number and press the SELECT key to confirm.

¶ Press the 34 keys to select the TITLE/CHAPTER to set a certain title.–Enter an available number and press the SELECT key to confirm.

¶ Press the GOTO key the fourth times to quit the state.

NOTE:– Depending on the DVD discs format, GOTO key may not be activated.

¶ Press the ZOOM key on the remote control to get the picture enlargetwice than the original size. Press ZOOM again to get a four time in sizeenlarge. Use the 341 2 key to view the available zoom picture.

¶ Press the ZOOM key the third time to return to the original size.

NOTE:– Depending on the DVD discs format, ZOOM key may not be activated.

Camera angle

¶ Scenes which captured from different camera angles can be recorded ina DVD disc and it enables you to watch from different angles. You canswitch the camera angles by pressing the ANGLE key on your remotecontrol.

NOTE:– Depending on the DVD discs format, ANGLE key may not be activated.

Changing audio languages

¶ If the DVD disc is recorded with multi-language audio tracks, you canselect your preferred language by pressing the LANGUAGE key on yourremote control.

¶ When a DVD disc formatted with multi-language is loaded, you can seethe information in OSD bar on the screen.

Changing subtitles

¶ If the DVD disc is recorded with multi-subtitle tracks, you can select yourpreferred subtitle by pressing the SUBTITLE key on your remote control.

¶ When a DVD disc formatted with multi-subtitle is loaded, you can seethe information in OSD bar on the screen.

FTS - Favourite Track Selection (DVD)¶ This function enables you to store your favourite tracks in certain order.¶ You can do the following steps to edit the playing orders.

1 Press the PROGRAM key to enter to submenu. (as shown)2 In the submenu, you need to input your favourite titles by pressing the

NUMBER key. If the number is unavailable, it will disappear from thesubmenu.

3 Use the 2 key to highlight the CHAPTER item. You can select yourfavourite chapter. Again ,the player will confirm the number.

4 Use the 34 keys to move to next line and repeat the above steps untilyou complete the editing of the program.

5 Use the 341 2 keys to highlight the PLAY PROGRAM and pressSELECT key to confirm.

¶ You can do the following steps to cancel the program.

1 Use the 341 2 keys to move to the item you wish to remove.2 Press the CANCEL key, the selected item will be cancelled.3 If you want to clear all programs, you can use the 341 2 keys to

highlight the CLEAR ALL item and press the SELECT key to confirm.

¶ You can do the following steps to quit the PROGRAM menu.

1 Press the STOP key twice.2 Use the 341 2 keys to move to the CANCEL and press the SELECT

key to confirm.

¶ VCD has only one stereo audio channel, you can mute the left speakeror the right speaker by pressing the LANGUAGE key on the remotecontrol.

Playing title/track

Use PBC (PlayBack Control)

¶ Playback control is a title/track index protocol between player and discs.When a disc is recorded with a standard VCD or SVCD format, therewill be a menu which include titles/tracks for users to select the contentof a movie or other video programs.

¶ When you switch on the PBC function you will enter the index menuwhich are available for selection after loading the SVCD or VCD disc.

¶ You can switch the PBC function simply by pressing the MENU/PBC keyon the remote control. Refer to the icon in the menu bar on the screen.

¶ Use the PREV/NEXT key on the remote control or on the front panelto select the page you like.

¶ If the items of the index menu are numbered, press the appropriatenumber key on the remote control, if not, use the 341 2 keys tohighlight it, then press the SELECT key to confirm your selection.

¶ Press the RETURN key to enter the index menu.

NOTE:– The content of the index menu depends on the disc. Refer to the disc

instruction for detail.– If the disc doesn’t include PBC information, this function will not execute.

Close PBC

¶ If you switch PBC function off, the disc will start from the beginning.¶ When you play the karaoke disc, you still can use the PREV/NEXT key

on the remote control or on the front panel to select the page you like,even if PBC function is off.

Zoom

¶ This function enables you to store your favourite tracks in certain order.¶ You can do the following steps to edit the playing orders.

Setup Menu

Enter the setup menuPress the STOP key first

¶ Enter the Setup Menu by pressing the SETUP key in the STOP mode.Remember the SETUP key will not respond if you press it duringplayback.

¶ When you quit the setup, the setting will be stored in the player’smemory even when the player is switched to power off.

How to navigate¶ Use the 1 2 keys on the remote control to choose an item in the top

menu.¶ Use the SELECT key on the remote control to open the first level

submenu to select an option in the item.¶ Use the 34 keys on the remote control to choose an item in the first

level submenu.¶ Use the SELECT key on the remote control to select an option in the

item you’ve chosen and enter to the second level submenu to continuechoosing.

¶ When the cursor is in the item of the first level submenu, you canchange other setups by pressing the 3 key to return to the top menu.

¶ Press SETUP key to quit the setup menu when the setting is completed.

OSD language¶ There are two types of OSD languages in the player.¶ Setup the item as follows:

– Use the 1 2 keys to highlight the item LANGUAGE in the top menu,then press the SELECT key to open the first level submenu.

– Use the 34 keys to select item OSD MENU.– Press the SELECT key to open the second level submenu.– Use the 34 keys to select your preferred language.– Press the SELECT key to confirm the change.

Subtitle language¶ DVD discs are recorded in multi-subtitle languages. This feature is used

to choose as default subtitle language.¶ Setup the item as follows:

– Use the 1 2 keys to highlight the item LANGUAGE in the top menu,then press the SELECT key to open the first level submenu.

– Use the 34 keys to select item SUBTITLE.– Press the SELECT key to open the second level submenu.– Use the 34 keys to select your preferred language.– Press the SELECT key to confirm the change.

Audio language¶ DVD discs are recorded in multi-audio languages. This feature is used to

choose as default audio language.¶ Setup the item as follows:

– Use the 1 2 keys to highlight the item LANGUAGE in the top menu,then use the SELECT key to open the first level submenu.

– Use the 34 keys to select the item AUDIO.– Press the SELECT key to open the second level submenu.– Use the 34 keys to select your preferred language.– Press the SELECT key to confirm the change.

NOTE:– Your DVD disc may not recorded the audio and subtitle language which

you set in the Setup Menu. If so, the player will use other audio andsubtitle language instead.

DVD menu language¶ DVD discs are recorded in multi DVD menu languages. This feature is

– Use the 34 keys to select DVD MENU item.– Press the SELECT key to open the second level submenu.– Use the 34 keys to select your preferred language.– Press the SELECT key to confirm the change.

NOTE:– If your DVD disc doesn’t recorded the DVD menu language you select, the

player will use other recorded language instead.

OSD (On-Screen-Display)¶ This feature is used to display playback information. When it is set to off,

the DVD player will close the OSD information, even if you press theOSD key on the remote control.

¶ Setup the item as follows:– Use the 1 2 keys to highlight the item LANGUAGE in the top menu,

then press the SELECT key to open the first level submenu.– Use the 34 keys to select OSD item.– Press the SELECT key for selected option.

Factory default¶ If problems are encounter during setting up the DVD player, the item

DEFAULT is used to reset all items to factory default and all thepersonal setting will be erased.

¶ Setup the item as follows:– Use the 1 2 keys to highlight the item LANGUAGE in the top menu,

then press the SELECT key to open the first level submenu.– Use the 34 keys to select DEFAULT item.– Press the SELECT key to open the second level submenu.– Use the 34 keys to select ON or OFF.– Press the SELECT key to confirm the change.

NOTE:– When the setup is ON, it will reset all items to factory default.

Screen size¶ The normal TV screen size ratio is 4:3, but there is also a TV screen

which its size ratio is 16:9, wide as cinema screen and it’s call ‘wide-screen’.

¶ If a disc is recorded in the size of wide-screen, it will have some problemin playing on a normal TV set and the feature SCREEN SIZE is used.

¶ There are three selections in the item to modify the distorted screenpicture:

1 4:3 LB — used for 16:9 format movie discs play in 4:3 TV set. It sacrificescertain top and bottom screen space for getting a 16:9 picture size.(refer to fig .1)

2 4:3 PS — used for 16:9 format movie discs play in 4:3 TV set. It sacrificescertain picture part for getting 4:3 picture size. (refer to fig .2)

3 16:9 wide-screen — used for 16:9 format movie discs play in 16:9 TVset. If the disc is recorded in 4:3 format, the picture will also have somedistortion.

TV system¶ There are two major television systems, PAL (popular in Asia) and

NTSC (National Television Systems Committee-popular in America).Most of TV sets can play with the two systems. Set this feature accordingto the system of your TV (PAL,NTSC or AUTO).

¶ Setup the item as follows:– Use the 1 2 keys to highlight the item VIDEO in the top menu, then

press the SELECT key to open the first level submenu.– Use the 34 keys to select TV SYSTEM item.– Press the SELECT key to open the second level submenu.– Use the 34 keys to select your preferred TV system.– Press the SELECT key to confirm the change.

Audio output¶ This feature is applicable to either analog audio output or digital audio

output.¶ The item of “Dolby D” only adapt to DVD discs and the item OTHER

adapt to the “Others”. You can setup the relevant item as follows:– Use the 1 2 keys to highlight item AUDIO in the top menu, then press

the SELECT key to open its submenu.– Press the 34 keys to highlight the selection and press the SELECT key

to change it.

[Dolby D][Analog out]– [2CH] If you choose 2CH stereo receiver or Dolby

digital decoder instrument, you must setup audiooutput as 2CH.

– [OFF] When you highlight this item, analog out will beclose.

[Digital output] Such option as [RAW] and [PCM] will besupplied.

[Others][Analog out] Such option as [2CH], [OFF] will be supplied.

You can select the proper option.[Digital output] Such option as [RAW], [PCM], [OFF] will be

supplied.– Press the SETUP key to activate it and quit the from the feature.

NOTE:– The digital output of DTS discs must be setup as RAW.

Password¶ This password is used on the parental control and disc lock.¶ Use the 1 2 keys to highlight the item RATING in the top menu, then

press the SELECT key to open its submenu.¶ Use the 34 keys to highlight the item PASSWORD and enter your

secret numbers.¶ Press the SELECT key and press the SETUP key to quit.

NOTE:– If you forget the password, you can enter the default password 9999 and

replace your code after logging in.

Parental control¶ DVD disc can be set with levels which define the movie degrees of

violence, horror or iroticism. There are 8 levels defined in a standardliterature for the setting by distributors. From level 1 to level 8, theponderance increases gradually. If the parental control is activated, onlythe movies which the degree is lower than the level you set can beadmitted to show, otherwise, you have to enter the password forauthorisation.

¶ VCD, SVCD, CD has no level defination, so parental control functionhas no effect on those kinds of discs as well as most of illegal DVD discs.

¶ You can follow the steps below to setup the parental control:

– Highlight the item RATING in the top menu by using the 1 2 keys andpress the SELECT key to enter the submenu.

– Press the 34 keys to select the item PASSWORD and enter yourcode to log in. You can enter the default password 9999 the first timeby pressing the number keys on the remote control, and press theSELECT key to confirm.

– Press the SELECT key to open the lock icon as shown.– Move the cursor to RATING item and press the SELECT key to

change the level.– Press the 34 keys to select the item PASSWORD and enter your

code.– Press the SELECT key to close the lock icon as shown.– You can press the key SETUP to quit the setup menu.

Note:– You can also use the default password 9999 to log in, even if you have set

a password.

Disc lock¶ Although you can’t use parental control on VCD and SVCD discs, but

you can still use disc lock to limit the disc playback on your player.¶ When you lock the current disc, the player will record its serial number

for the recognization. Loading discs next time, the user will be asked toenter password. If the password is wrong, the disc will be forbidden toplayback.

¶ The password is the same as in parental control. Also, you can use thedefault password 9999 to open the disc lock if you forget the password.

¶ You can follow the steps below to setup the disc lock.– Highlight the item RATING in the top menu by using the 1 2 keys,

press the key SELECT to enter the submenu.– Press the 34 keys to select the item PASSWORD and enter your

code to log in. You can enter the default password 9999 the first timeby pressing the number keys on the remote control, and press theSELECT key to confirm.

– Press the SELECT key to unlock the icon as shown.– Highlight the item DISC LOCK by using the 34 keys and press the

SELECT key to change the setup.– There are two options in the item. One is UNLOCK indicating the disc

lock function is not active, the other is LOCK determining theoperation to the current disc.

– Press the 34 keys to select the item PASSWORD and enter yourcode.

– Press the SELECT key to make the lock close.– You can press the key SETUP to quit the setup menu.

NOTE:– DVD discs beyond the setting range will not playback in the player having

parental control, but that won’t influence its normal playback in otherplayers.

Pro Logic¶ You can follow the steps below to setup the Pro Logic.

– Press the 1 2 keys to highlight the item MORE AUDIO in the topmenu, then press the SELECT key to open the first level submenu.

– Press the 34 keys to select the item PRO LOGIC.– Press the SELECT key to open the second level submenu.– Press the 34 keys to select the desired option.

ON: When playback the disc with Dobly Pro Logic signal recorded onit, DVD player will decode and output of Dolby Pro Logic surroundsound.OFF: Disable the output of Dolby Pro Logic surround sound.AUTO: Enable or disable the output of Dolby Pro Logic surrond sounddepending on the signal recorded on the disc.

– Press the SELECT eky to confirm selection.

Subwoofer¶ You can follow the steps below to setup the Subwoofer.

– Press the 1 2 keys to highlight the item MORE AUDIO in the topmenu, then press the SELECT key to open the first level submenu.

– Press the 34 keys to select the item SUBWOOFER.– Press the SELECT key to open the second level submenu.– Press the 34 keys to select the desired option.

ON: Enable the signal output for subwoofer.OFF: Disable the signal output for subwoofer.

Environmental information

Disc maintenanceSome problems occur because the disc inside the player is dirty. To avoidthose problems, clean your discs regularly.

¶ When the disc becomes dirty, clean it with a cleaning cloth. Wipe thedisc from center to out side.

Caution:– Do not use solvents such as benzine, thinner, commercially

available cleaners, or anti-static spray intended for analogdiscs.

Environmental informationAll redundant packing material has been omitted. We have done ourutmost to make the packaging easily separable into three mono materials:cardboard (box), polystyrene foam (buffer) and polyethylene (bags,protective foam sheet.)

Your set consists of material which can be recycled if disassembled by aspecialized company. Please observe the local regulations regarding tothe disposal of packing materials, dead batteries and old equipment.

Before requesting serviceIf it appears that the DVD Video player is faulty, first consult this checklist.Something may have been overlooked. Under no circumstances should youattempt to repair the system yourself; this will invalidate the warranty.

Look for the specific symptom(s). Then perform only the actions listed to remedythe specific symptom(s).

Symptom Remedy

No power – Check if the on/off button on the front of the player is set to on.– Check if there is power at the AC outlet by plugging in another appliance.

No picture – Check if the TV is switched on.– Select the same channel and source on the TV as on the player.– Check the video connection.

Distorted picture – Check the disc for fingerprints and clean the disc with a soft cloth,wiping from the center to the edge.

– Sometimes a small amount of picture distortion may appear. This is not amalfunction.

Completely distorted picture – If the picture is distorted completely or if the picture rolls vertically,or no color with player menu make sure the NTSC/PAL setting at the DVD player matches the

video signal of your television.– If your TV video signal is NTSC, select the NTSC setting at the DVD player.– If your video signal is PAL, select the PAL setting.

Distorted or black/white picture – The disc format does not match your TV’s video signal (PAL/NTSC).with DVD or Video CD

No sound – Check audio connections.– If you are using a HiFi amplifier, try another sound source.

Distorted sound from HiFi – Check to make sure that no audio connections are made to theamplifier amplifier’s phono input.

No audio at digital output – Check the digital connections.– Check the settings menu to make sure the digital output is set to ALL or

PCM.– Check if the audio format of the selected audio language matches

your receiver capabilities.

Disc can’t be played – Ensure the disc label is facing up.– Clean the disc.– Check if the disc is defective by trying another disc.– Check to see if the disc is defective, badly scratched or warped (not flat).

No return to start-up screen when – Reset the unit by switching the player off, then on again.disc is removed – Check to see if the program requires another disc to be loaded.

The player does not respond to – Aim the remote control directly at the sensor on the front of the player.the remote control – Remove any obstacles between the player and the remote control.

– Inspect or replace the batteries in the remote control.

Buttons do not work – In order to completely reset the player, unplug the AC cord from theAC outlet for a few seconds.

Player does not respond to some – Operations may not be permitted by the disc. Refer to the instructions of

operating commands during the disc.playback
