Goodwill Goes GLAM! Event Overview
WHAT TO EXPECT
Goodwill Industries of Hawaii (GIH) presents its inaugural Goodwill Goes GLAM!, an unprecedented venue combining a marketplace of more than 50,000 reusable treasures with interactive daily activities that showcase job talent and career pathways specific to Hawaii’s fashion, retail and style industries. Fashion Treasure-hunters from throughout Hawaii will converge on the three-day, more than 20,000 square-foot Treasure Marketplace offering glamour, vintage, and select items for sale. Kicking it off will be an exclusive High Fashion VIP Night, which will include a Gala Dinner and Fashion Show, plus an After Party and Pre-Sale for Fast Pass holders. The Fashion Show will feature Hawaii’s top stylist and model talent, unveiling outstanding “looks” fashioned with items found at local Goodwill retail outlets and partner stores.
Mirroring this exciting marketplace, interactive daily activities will advocate the strengthening of Hawaii’s fashion, style and retail workforce. It will serve as a representative showcase of all of the industries Goodwill’s nonprofit workforce programs aim to support. Daily activities will include:
Glamway Catwalk stage presentations on topics such as “professional dress” and “job readiness”
Hosted training tracks and career pathways
Awarding “best of the best” contest winners who reused and recycled goods from items in Goodwill stores
Daily drawing shopping spree winners
Specialty talk story lounges with fashion, retail and style experts.
WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT & WHO DOES IT HELP? After 19 years of successful annual events, Goodwill is proactively transitioning to a larger venue to reach a more diverse public, broaden its program impact and heighten public awareness of its services. Recent surveys and anecdotal discussions show that more than 78% of the general public in Hawaii identifies with the Goodwill brand, yet many lack knowledge of how Goodwill’s retail operations fund educational,
employment placement and training service programs, and/or how they can take advantage of those services. By increasing the public’s understanding of what Goodwill’s nonprofit mission achieves, and providing a fun, innovative event and retail experience, we aim to retain and find new supporters of Goodwill’s mission. In 2010, Goodwill helped more than 13,000 people in Hawaii through its nationally accredited education, employment and career development programs, and aided 1,667 people in finding employment in the local community. Key communities serviced include the economically disadvantaged, Pacific Islander immigrants, individuals with criminal histories, at-risk youth and the developmentally disabled.
