    Chapter oneThe Silver Box

I think Ive done itCome and see me

    S.

This was the mysterious letter that Jacob had just received. Jacobs was an

eighteen year old young man. Jacob did not have the slightest idea of who S. was.He was siting on his bed when his mother walked in.Whats that she asked.A letter but I dont know who from, Jacob replied. Its probably for your sister did you check with her.Year but its got my name on it. And besides she doesnt live hear anymore.Strange, very strange, said his mother and walked out laughing.

The next morning Jacobs mum walked in and murmured Ive got another letter foryou.Jacob took the letter. It was addressed to Jacob Hoven at 140 Trisher Street.Jacob opened the letter. It consisted of three words.

    Come over quicklyS.

Jacob was puzzled why did this person named S. want him so bad. He looked at theback of the letter and realised for the first time that the letter didnt have thesenders address on the back. Jacob rang up everybody he knew and asked them ifthey knew anyone that had the initials S. but no one did. Youd think thatsomething like this would be easy to forget, but for Jacob it wasnt. He went tosleep that night dreaming of weird people saying Ive done it Jacob Ive doneit.

The next day when Jacob was eating his breakfast the doorbellrang. He heard a rustle, someone say ouch, and then a thank-you. Than the door

    closed and his dad reappeared.

Who was that, Jacobs mum asked?Oh just the mail lady, replied his dad. Jacobs mum scrolled. Youve got apackage Jacob, said his dad.Jacob took the package from his fathers hands and was surprised to see the letterS. on it. It was a big package about the size of a small TV. Jacob ripped the thinbrown paper away and revealed a cardboard box. He opened the box up and insidethere was a shiny silver steel box. Jacob piked it up and suddenly he felt veryweird. The box was light and yet at the same time heavy. He turned it over andrevealed a letter. It read:

    Jacob

This is the prototype, plug it in and come and see me.S.

That night Jacob was sitting on his bead holding the shiny silver box. This isthe prototype, plug it in and come and see me. Jacob couldnt get these words outof his head. He looked at it. There was no cord on it. It was just smooth andshiny. He yarned. Just then his dad walked past. Shouldnt you be sleeping Jacob, youve got work tomorrow. So do you, Jacob replied.Ha, blurted his dad and walked off. Finally Jacob put the box down and went to pull his covers down. As he reached his

bed he heard a ZAP and spun around.

Bright silver beams of light wear coming out of the power point (which Jacob hadplaced the box near) and into the glowing silver box. MUM, DAD, Jacob yelled.

Jacob couldnt take his eyes of the box as his parents ran up the stairs andsmashed into his room. Jacob had no control over his body. He could only watchhimself as he took one step after another closer to the box.

The noise was deafening. As he reached the box he could see his parentsreflection. They were lying unconscious staring at the ceiling. Jacob screamed asblinding beams of light wrapped themselves around his body. He was blind, spinningthrough white light just when he felt his feet leave the ground.

    Chapter TwoThe beginning

Tom Gale is an average twelve year old computer loving kid. He had black hair blueeyes. He was a lanky but well built kid. He lived in a large city in a small twostorey house on 24 Mabel Street. He had a six year old sister who had blonde hairand green eyes. Her name was Sara. His mums name was Kayla and his dads name wasNolle.

One Monday morning Tom was fast asleep. It was a school day and Toms alarm hadalready gone off. After a wile his mum, came in and shook him awake. Tom quicklyate his breakfast got dressed and got his tuck shop money. Tom was riding his bikedown a busy road when something caught his eye. It was Grand Theft Auto SanAndreas in the display shelf of a games shop.

Now Tom absolutely LOVED computer games, his dream was to go into virtual realityand his hero was Robert Silisco, head of Silisco Corporation-a new generationcomputer manufacturer, and all his friends had this game. The only place he couldplay San Andreas was at his friends place.Someday Ill get you, sighed Tom.HAY WATCH OUT, yelled a man in a car waiting for Tom to cross.Tom looked around. He was in the middle of a road. Sorry, Tom muttered and rodeoff at full speed.

After school Landen ran up to Tom. Hey Tom want to come over to my place and playSan Andreas? I just got the multiplayer version of it.Cool, exclaimed Tom, lets go.

Later that day when Tom got home his dad walked up to him. Close your eyes Ivegot a surprise for you.Tom closed his eyes and his dad put Grand Theft Auto San Andreas in his hands. Tomwent crazy and started doing cartwheels.

A week later and Tom had exhausted the game. He had spent his whole time playingSan Andreas and he had bragged about it all week. His mum and dad couldnt get anysense out of him. A couple more weeks past. His birthday came up. He got fiftydollars and a new monitor for his computer. A wile after his birthday and Tom wassick of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. But one afternoon something strangehappened, something very strange.

Tom was on the final mission (End of The line) when all of a sudden a white vortexappeared. Now this was strange because vortexes arent exposed to appear. But whatwas even stranger was that the thing that got out of the whirlwind wasnt acomputer generated image. It looked like a shrunken human being! Tom made hisplayer get out of the car and he started shooting at this virtual human being. Butit was impossible. The character just dodged this way and that, when all of asudden the character pulled out a sub-mine and blew up the car that Tom was in.

Game over said the computer. The screen went dark. Wow that was strange, exclaimed Tom, but than he shook his head. That cant be a real human, hethought to himself. Arrrrrrrr maybe it was that cheat that I put in.

Later on Tom completed the game. I might go and buy a new game with my birthdaymoney now, Tom said to himself. So off he went. Good buy Mum. Im just going upto the computer shop.

When Tom arrived at the computer store he started to look around in the gamesection for a new game.Hello Tom, greeted Phillip the shop keeper. I havent seen you here in awhile.

Oh hello James, replied Tom. Year Ive been busy playing San Andreas.

Tom started to look around the shop. Played it, played it, played it. Tomsighed. Maybe I should save my money for something else. He started for the doorbut something caught his eye. He walked up to it. It was a computer game calledZombie wars.

Tom looked at it. He had never seen a game like it before in his life. At thebottom it read did you know that the creator of this game has accesses to everycomputer in the world?

As Tom read this a staff member walked up to him. Thinking of buying that gamehey, he said. I wouldnt if I was you. The people who buy the game end up

disappearing for a few hours, than turn up a mile or two away from were theyoriginally were with no recollection of what happened.Cool, Tom gasped.

The staff member continued. And something else, you might have heard of RobertSilisco. The founder of Silisco Corporation? Tom asked.Year.He hasnt been heard of for three years now, hasnt he?Well year, thats the strange thing, said the staff member. He created thisgame and sent it out a year after he retired.

Wow, said Tom amazed Ill buy it.

When Tom got home his parents where watching TV. What did you get, his dadasked.Zombie war, Tom replied and showed his dad the game. Hmmm, Ive heard aninteresting story behind that his dad said.Year so Ive heard replied Tom. Wheres Sara?Out the back playing with the dog, Toms mum replied. Why?Oh nothing, said Tom with the thought of tormenting in his mind.

    Chapter 3Strange Happenings

That night, Tom inserted the disk and installed the game. When he had finished hissecurity came up and said vires alert! Vires alert!Tom clicked on it and it came up with information about the vires. It was a smallmail virus that sent information from the computer it was infecting to its owner.Arrrrrrrr it wont do any harm, Tom thought to himself and started playing.

It was a cool game. It was about a superhero fighting zombies. A weird force hadturned people into them.

The next day was Saturday so Tom had plenty of time to play. He got up, had someweet-bix for breakfast and fed his pet cat. Toms mum and dad were still asleepand it was very quiet. Tom went to turn on his computer when the door bell rang.He went downstairs to answer the door when his dad yelled down the stairs, ANWSERTHE DOOR TOM. The guy who rang the door bell was quite tall and skinny but hadthe profile that meant that he couldnt be any older than 19.

He asked is this 24 Mabel Street?Yes it is, Tom replied.

Tell your parents that I have a parcel for you and that I will drop it offlater, the man demanded.Okay, replied Tom.Please sign this, grunted the man, handing Tom a wooden folder with an evilglint in his eye.Tom signed it.You have just sealed youre fate Tom, the man laughed.

The young man started towards his car when he turned around and said hope youenjoy your day. That zombie game of yours is cursed by the way, ha, ha, ha, ha,and he walked off laughing.Tom stood there confused. This complete stranger, who he had never seen before, had walked up to him and had known two things that he shouldnt have known. Toms

name and his game, which he had only brought yesterday. It was just then that Tomrealised that he had signed something that he had not read. But Tom did not care, because there was something strange about the guy he had just met. A sort of evilpresence around him.

Tom shook his head and started for his computer.Who was it, his dad yelled sleepily. Some delivery guy. He said that he has a parcel for me and that he will drop itoff later, Tom yelled back. He had decided not to tell his farther about signingsomething and the weird at of the deliveryman.Whatever, his dad said sleepily and started snoring loudly.

Tom turned on the computer and started playing zombie wars. After a while hisparents got up and then his sister.

Mum, dad theres no milk left, Toms little sister, Sara, yelled from downstairs.Ill bet Tom drank it all to stop me from having it. Then the stomp of littlefeet came up the stairs and into Toms room.

Tom you drank all the milk now I dont have any breakfast, Toms little sisteryelled. I know you drank all the milk because youre mean. You know what Sara, yelled Tom starting to get annoyed, I did drink all themilk and you can tell that to all your wingy, winy friends, and he grabbed the

    5/23

milk bottle, sitting in Saras hands, and drained away the last few drops.

Sara started to scream at the top of her lungs. Tom covered his ears and bellowedeven louder. MUM, SARAS ANOYING ME!!!

SARA SHUT UP AND COME DOWN HERE; LEAVE YOUR BROTHER ALONE bellowed back therefarther.Sara stopt yelling and left Toms room, throwing him a dirty look all the same.

But Tom drank all the milk, I know it, Sara argued as she walked down thestairs.

Later on and Tom was on level three The Zombies Nest when a white vortexappeared.Oh not more zombies, Tom wined to himself, because on this game zombies appearedout of vortexes. But this vortex was different, like the one on San Andreas. Andthe character that got out was the same virtual human as the one Tom hadencountered the other day. Tom looked at him. But that guy was on San AndreasTom thought.

All the zombies where walking towards the person when the character started firinglike mad nocking tons of zombies around. Than he aimed at Toms character and the

screen went blank saying game over. Not again, Tom cried. Why is this happening? Than a thought rose up insidehim. That character looks just like a real human. What if it is a human? Dont bestupid, Tom told himself. Its just a game. But even this thought couldntdestroy the fact that no computer games graphics are as good as that personsimage.

Later on that day and Tom was still playing zombie wars. Just towards night timeToms mum called to him.Me and Sara are just going to the shop to get some dinner. We might be a wile.Okay, Tom yelled back. Wheres dad?Hes out bowling, Sear. Then it was quite, quite everywhere except in Toms roomwhere the battle between zombies and superhero continued. After Toms character had

died for the fiftieth time Tom stopt playing. It was dark now and his parents still werent home. So Tom started a new game andstarted playing. Then a nock on the door came, and a squeak told Tom that it had opened.Mum, Dad, Tom yelled quietly. Its me, came a croaky voice. Ive come to drop your package of Tom.Oh, okay, Tom replied.

Then a load thud came and then a rattle. Then the door closed. Then the powerturned of and the house was engulfed in darkness. Tom wished his parents werehome. But as the beeping and flickering sound came from the darkness downstairs,Tom knew that his troubles had just began.

    Chapter 4Kidnapped

Beep, beep. Beep, beep. Beeeeeeeeeep. And then silence. Tom was lying on his bedin the pitch darkness absolutely terrified. He did not know what was going on, hedidnt want to know what was going on. After ten minutes Tom finally had thecourage to go down stairs and find out what this thing was once and for all.

Tom got of his bed and walked out of his room. But when his foot touched the top

  • 8/14/2019 Vertual Reality Kidnapped

    6/23

of the stairs his heart froze. The beeping had started again and this time it waslouder and faster than before. Every step Tom took, took him closer to the beepingand the white light which seemed to be emitting from the kitchen. Tom reached thebottom of the stairs turned the corner and let his heart miss a beat.

Tom sore the blinding light come out of the kitchen. He saw the power-pointsglowing with hot, white electricity. He saw shards of glass from the shatteredlight bulbs, the TV cracked and useless. And just when Tom thought the beeping

couldnt go any faster it stopt and the heart wrenching screeching began.

Tom wanted to run screaming out of his house, but instead Toms feet directed himthe one last step towards the glowing kitchen. And then Tom froze. But this timeit wasnt out of fear, Tom had absolutely no control over his body at all. Thenoise was so defining, the light so blinding. Night turned to day.

Toms legs one after another took him closer to the source of the light. He triedto scream but couldnt move his mouth. He tried to struggle but some force wascontrolling him, rapping him in some invisible force, forcing his legs to take onestep after another closer to the source of the light. Toms ears where ringing. Andas his body entered the white light, Tom knew all was lost. The last thing he saw was a silver box emitting light as he was engulfed and

blinded by white light, just as he felt his feet leave the ground.

Tom was spinning, spinning through white light. He did not have a clue of what wasgoing on, and almost blackedout when his face hit the ground. Tom slowly raised to his feet and looked aroundthe new world that he was in.

It looked oddly familiar. Blue sky, old, pealing houses, cars. Tom went to rub hiseyes and screamed. He was holding a gun! And when a black, fat person holding amachine gun appeared at the end of the street, it all came clear to Tom. He was inSAN ANDREAERS!

    Chapter 5Virtual Reality

CJ my man, watts up. The fat character that was Big Smoke walked right throughTom and up to CJ.For a while they just talked and Tom knew this was the cut scene, for he could notmove. Than they hopped in a car and drove off, careful to run over a few Ballas(the bad guy gang) along the way, just as Tom had down only yesterday.

Tom could not believe it. He was in a computer game, in virtual reality!!! It wasa miracle.

Poor houses stretched to create a suburb lined with mazes of streets. To the lefta rumble of cars could be heard and Tom knew that this was the highway. Charactersfrom the game were at war shooting at each other, dressed in green and purple. Ablue sky stretched high up above.

Tom slapped himself to make sure he wasnt dreaming. But he wasnt, this was real.He was inside some kind of holographic projector. That must have been what thewhite light was. He must have been one of the first kids this had been practisedon.

Tom started to walk down the street marvelling at anything and everything that he

  • 8/14/2019 Vertual Reality Kidnapped

    7/23

saw. It all felt oddly real. Than it hit him. He was a character in the gamemeaning Tom could do anything! He could drive a car, fly a plane, skydive, anything! He couldnt believe it, his dream had come true. But then at the end ofthe street a couple of Ballas saw him, pulled a gun out of no where and shot him!

Tom ducked just in time, as he felt a bullet whistle past his ear. Tom started torun. The Balla shot again and this time got him squarely in the back!Tom tried to scream but no sound came out, people on games couldnt scream. The

pain was searing and Tom was running as fast as he could, ducking a third bulletas it came wising past his arm. When the Ballas where out of site, Tom knelt downon the ground and looked at his back.

There was no blood, no mark to show where the bullet had hit, even the pain hadsubsided. But he knew he that he had lost health, and he knew, without reallyknowing how he knew it, that if he lost all his life he would die for real, hisbody surely couldnt survive it.

And then all of a sudden his body filled with fear, his blood boiled red hot, andhot white knives where stabbing at his flesh. As much as he had wanted to be invirtual reality, now it was like entering one of his nightmares.

He had seen and known this place in a game. But then again thats all it had been,a game. If you failed you tried and triedagain. But Tom had only one chance. He did not know what to do; he did not knowhow he got here in the first place let alone how to get out.

And then all of a sudden everything went black and cold, and once again Tom hadthat familiar sensation that he was floating. Then the world came back in a whorlof colour, and his feet hit solid ground. And then the voice came again, CJ myman, watts up? as big Smoke stepped through Toms body as though he was a ghost. They talked, drove off and once again Tom was alone.

Tom didnt know what had just happened let alone care about what happened. He keptwalking, looking for some sign of how to get out.

But after a couple of blocks it went dark and cold again before coming back atCJs house. Than Tom understood. The game was being reloaded!

And so on it went. Every couple of minutes it went dark and cold and Tom appearedback outside CJs house. Tom kept away from other people from fear of being shotagain, but after a while he gave up all hope of escaping (least of all it was hardto get anywhere in a couple of minutes) and just sat under the bridge where hekept reappearing.

After several long hours, or possible days (Tom had lost all sense of time, lostin worry) a whirlwind appeared out of thin air.

Tom looked up. Whirlwinds didnt happen on San Andreas. But than again it didnttrap people as well. Tom stood up and all too late he realised he was in themiddle of it. Than all of a sudden he was flying through a whirl of colour beforeappearing on a road somewhere far away from the house.

Tom was standing in what he recognized as where the final part of the game tookplace. A car had just stopt at the top of the road and the figure that instantlylooked like the main character CJ hopped out, but this time Tom was ready.

He ducked a row of bullets and dodged this way and that before turning andshooting with his gun at the fuel tank, blowing the car into pieces. Tom didnt

  • 8/14/2019 Vertual Reality Kidnapped

    8/23

need the loud KA-BOOM to know the car had blown and CJ was dead, for Tom had donethat so many hours ago.

    Chapter 6The White Orbs

Toms ears where ringing, the car lay in ruins and a fire was blazing. Al-along Tomstood there waiting for the terrible darkness to engulf him only to reappear onceagain at the safe house. But this time it didnt happen.

The virtual people of the game just kept on walking past the flaming wreckage ofthe car like nothing had happened. But this was normal for a game like this. Butthen something unordinary happened.

A bright flash of white light appeared out of nowhere, the same light that hadbrought him into this virtual game. But as quickly as it came, it was gone again.

Maybe he had done it maybe he had beaten the game and was going home. But asanother flash of light went through Toms eyes he remembered how excited he had

been when he had first entered the game and that excitement filled him again. Heknew how to get out now. Why couldnt he stay a little longer? He was free now andhe hadnt really done much except panic. He felt foolish of being afraid of acomputer game.

And as Toms heart filled with resentment, the people on the streets froze andanother blinding flash of white light appeared. He could have flown a plane, driven a car or skydived, everything felt so real here.

Tom never struggled once. He let this virtual force take control of his body, although he really wanted to stay. Then again if he had entered virtual realityonce, he could do it again.

The flashes of light where getting quicker and brighter, until one flash engulfedeverything and blinded Tom. Toms ears where ringing with maniac laughing and onceagain Tom was spinning, spinning through white light.

Tom waited for the spinning to stop, to land on the kitchen floor, to see somepeople looking down on him, probably asking how was it, or, what is it like togo in virtual reality?

But the spinning didnt stop. The screeching in Toms ears never stoped. There wasno end to the white light. A whorl of colour flashed in front of Tom eyes. Thananother, and another. The spinning had stopped; Tom was motionless looking at animage that had formed in his eyes.

All around him was white light except for a circular window in front of him. Tomlooked through this gap in the light. He was looking from one end of a roomcompletely covered in pink velvet curtains. At the other end was a super computerwith the most high-tech stuff connected to it, and sitting at it was a man, thesame man who had delivered Toms package, typing like crazy, sweating like mad.

Tom was angry with his brother, how dare he use my computer, he thought. Tomwanted to grab him and strangle him.

But Tom was not in the right state of mind. He was delirious and wanted to be

  • 8/14/2019 Vertual Reality Kidnapped

    9/23

sick. Than the image faded and the spinning began again. But a couple of secondslater a new image came out of the whiteness that engulfed him.

Tom was surrounded by water, and in front of him was a white orb just sitting onthe reef floor, motionless. Tom wanted to reach out, to touch it, but as his armextended and his hands reached out, his energy was drained from him, and he wasntable to breath.

Water was compressing on him, his clothes where getting damper and wetter, themaniac laughter that had been ringing in his ears since he had left the gamestoped and Tom felt panic that was not his own. The last of his energy was drainedand his arm fell limp.

Just as before the spinning began and ended in just a couple of seconds. The imagethat formed this time was different to the others. He was in a brick dungeon withbare wars. The only thing that was in the room was a red, tall chair and on it satan aged, bald man. He was holding an orb, the same as the one that Tom had justseen.

Tom tried to reach out for the orb but was being dragged back into the whiteness. The unnatural panic that had filled Tom subdued, and once again he was spinning,

    spinning through white light.

    Chapter 7Playing the games

Tom hit the ground hard and fast, but lay perfectly still. He slowly came to hissenses and remembered everything. The sickening feeling was overwhelming Tom andhe spewed up all over the ground but didnt move at all.

As he laid there his strength slowly returned and once again Tom was in confusion. What was happening? One minute he had been laying on his bed the next he was

running for his life in a COMPUTER GAME! And what had those orbs been? What wasgoing on? Why was he sick? Why had his strength drained? Why did everything feelso real?

Tom rolled over feeling slight wetness on his body but did not have time toexamine it. He was not lying on his kitchen floor. He got up to exam his newenvironment when a shock of horror came to him.

Barren, cracked land stretched far and wide, a mountain to his left and a forestto his right. Tom spun around to the caves in the mountain to see millions ofzombies advancing on him. He looked down and saw a gun that looked similar to theone he had previously. And without even thinking he raised his gun pointed at thezombies and shot bullet after bullet, killing zombie after zombie. The ground was

covered in dead carcases, but Tom did not stop shooting until the bullets ran out.And just like a type on a keyboard Tom reloaded his gun and started shooting atthe superhero-zombie fighter.

As the superhero fell to the ground Toms machine gun fell silent. Tom could herethe distant words of GAME OVER but did not care. Once again he was happy to bein virtual reality, the horror of what had just happened drained away.Bring it on, I can take anything, Tom shouted, I am the game champion. Tomsears where full of maniac laughter, but this time it was his, he was the happiestkid alive. Than a flash of white light appeared, and another and another, andanother, and once again Tom was spinning, spinning through white light.

  • 8/14/2019 Vertual Reality Kidnapped

    10/23

Tom prepared his landing and landed on his feet this time, his weight bucklingunder his knees. Tom started up and looked around.

He was in a city, a medieval city. He was surrounded by brick buildings and strawhuts, a castle in the mountain behind him. Tom felt the sword at his side. He drewit out, and as he did a great roar went out behind him. Tom was a solider, but notany solder he was the leader of the great army.

Tom saw it now. Fires where going up in the distance, the cities walls wherecrumbled at a point, people were screaming running for there lives as the invadersdestroyed there homes and took their lives.

Tom looked back towards his army, they where all still standing straight, all butone who was looking towards Tom. Tom looked back at the character. He wasdifferent to the others, more human like.

But there was no time to investigate because the invaders were getting closer. Tomraised his sword and a roar went up. And of they went. Tom leading the army turnedthe corner and saw the enemy. Some on horseback, some on foot, all had swords.

Tom let some solders get ahead of him before he began battle. STRIKE, Tom slashedhis sword down someones back and ran on before the carcass could hit the ground.CLING, CLANG, someone attacked Tom from behind, but Tom as sleek as a cat, turnedaround and blocked the attack.Tom pushed hard with his sword, and his opponents sword flew out of his hands.Tom drove the sword deep into his opponents chest. He watched as the life fadedout of his enemies eyes.

What had he done, he had killed a man. NO, Tom shook his head its just a game andhe moved on. STAB, Toms sword dropped through the horses skin and into itsflesh. The horse fell motionlessly to the ground. Tom moved quickly to finish ofthe rider, but the horseman had already got up.

Tom moved towards the enemy and went into battle. CLING, CLANG, CLASH, each personwas trying to break defences; each move was sleek and dangerous, aimed to kill.Tom pushed in but was pushed back out, this man was much quicker and a betterswordsman than the previous.

Tom struck again, and again, and again, but each time he was blocked. Than Tomsopponent attacked and Tom blocked it, and blocked it, andSWISH, the sword droveright through Toms hand! He screamed as it hit the ground.

    Chapter 8The Prisoner

Tom fell to the ground screaming in agony. He felt the wind as the sword flew pasthis ear. He got up and ran like the wind. His arm was aching but he didnt care, right now he had to stay alive. Tom ran out of the battle, he heard a scream andfootsteps, his enemy was chasing after him.

He stumbled on some wreckage but recovered and ran on. The chaser was gainingground so Tom ran faster. He was panicking and stumbled on some more rubble andtripped over, and there he lay.

The footsteps stoped. Tom waited for the cold blade to slice into his back. But it

never came. Instead a warm, strong hand grabbed his and pulled him up. Tom took astep back.Whoa, you dont have to be afraid of me I finished that other guy of.Tom turned and looked at his rescuer. He had brown hair and green eyes and wasvery lanky but till the same height as Tom. It was the solider that looked like ahuman. And he was!!!

    Who are you, Tom asked?

My name is Kerry and I am a prisoner just like you, Kerry answered back. The fires were getting stronger.Come NOW, Kerry said urgently, follow me.Tom ran up the mountainside road towards the castle at top speed.

Tom looked back and saw bloody carcases, his men where retreating and the enemywhere slaughtering them. As the children got higher up the mountain Tom lookedback again, over the plains and gave a gasp.

A thick line of black dots that was the enemy expanded from the far off horizonand across the plains into the broken walls, and there wasnt a single gap.

Theres no stopping them, Tom gasped.

Of cause, its the never-ending army of the Morah, Kerry explained from up-head.

Tom panted as they finally reached the castle, situated at the top of themountain. He expected there to be guards but there wasnt, so instead he lookeddown on the burning city beneath him and saw his almost defeated army.

Already Kerry was hushing him in and when he arrived, Kerry managed to close thesteel gate all by his self. Tom looked upon this person who called himself theprisoner. He had brown hair and green eyes; he had a belt tied around him withabout 3 swords, and Tom realised for the first time that he looked quite pale andsick. Tom looked upon his hand that had been chopped. It had grown back but Tomnew that he had lost a lot of health.

Okay listen, Kerry demanded, thats the army of the Mora so we dont have muchtime until they reach this castle. Kerry explained this in a voice ofunderstanding. How long have you been in virtual reality?Hu, asked Tom confused.Um, how many games have you been in, Kerry said annoyed.

Oh this is my third, why? Kerry didnt answer.Tom frowned in a confused manner.Kerry ignored him but instead his knees gave way and he slid to the floor. Helooked even more paler and sick. You do know why he brought us here, Kerry asked.Who, Tom asked.

Kerry ignored this question. He brought us here to test this technology, thisvirtual reality thing on us. I played a few games my self. I thought it was fununtil they dumped me here. You know why they dumped us here? No.They dump as here because we know too much, thats what they do. The kidnap us,force us to play games, to survive and when there done with us they dump us hereto die.You cant die in a computer game, Tom corrected him.

Tom could hear a distant chanting. The enemy where getting closer.

Whats wrong with you, Tom asked?I came into this game with almost no health. Being almost dead makes you feel abit sick.Well that settles it, decided Tom. He started up and headed towards the swordglittering in the sunlight.

The brick wall crumbled at the feet of the Mora. A great roar went up as Tomreached the sword. He clutched the sword with both hands and pulled, and pulled,

and pulled, but it would not budge.

The army of the Mora rounded the corner and Kerry came out of the trees clutchingone of his swords. This is it, he yelled. CLING, CLANG, CLASH, Kerry ran intobattle taking down one solider after another. Tom looked back and saw that he wasan impressive fighter.Hurry up Tom; I cant hold them off for ever.

Tom turned back towards the sword jammed in the middle of the stone platform. Tompulled but it would not move. It was over. They where doomed.

No matter how many soldiers Kerry took down there was always more and Kerry wasbeing out numbered a million to one. Tom stood there in despair. The sword, there

only hope of escape was stuck and Kerry was fighting a lost battle.

Kerry glanced back and saw Tom standing there. Hurry up, pull the sword, he saiddesperately, but by doing so he made his mistake. A soldiers sword crashed intoKerrys causing it to fly over the cliff. Kerry dodged the second attack andretreated back towards the cliff.

That was the last straw. Tom was not going to let his friend die. He turned backto the sword and thought with all his heart and soul please let it move. It moved.

Kerry was at the edge of the cliff the Mora was advancing on him. He hadcompletely forgotten about his other swords. A solider walked up to him smiling.Time to die, and with those words he plunged his sword towards Kerrys neck just

    as Tom pulled the sword.

Tom aimed the surprisingly light sword at the soldiers and they froze, the Morassword just inches away from Kerrys neck. The sword dropped and Kerry sighed asigh of relief.

All across the land the army of the Mora where turning into dust and in turn thedust was turning into a great wisp of smoke rising into a cloud that engulfed thesky. This huge cloud in turn fell down onto the platform.

Tom and Kerry watched as the smoke formed a structure of a very fat lady, the MoraGod. As the last wisp of smoke was consumed by the fat lady Kerry drew his

remaining two swords, one in each hand.

This is it, our ticket out of here, whispered Kerry.Tom raised his sword and together they walked onto the platform. They nodded andcharged, sword raised.

The old lady turned and blocked all three of the attacks. She shook her head.Tut, tut, tut, she whispered. The children attacked again, and again, and again, but each time they where blocked.

CLING, CLANG, CLASH, their swords banged against each other but nothing happened

until Kerrys sword slipped straight into the old ladies arm. The Mora God yelledwith rage, her long black hair billowing in a wind that only she could feel.

With a howl of rage she attacked and with brutal force nocked Kerry over.Noooo, yelled Tom and like a raging lion he plunged at his prey, and they wherelocked in combat. Defend, attack, defend, attack. CLING, CLANG, CLASH, went thereswords. Then Kerry rose and he was locked in battle as well.

Kerry swang like a wild rabbit but as a result lost a sword as it flew over theedge. Now it was two on one. Tom pushed in, on the Mora God put was pushed backout. She was two powerful they would never defeat her.

Kerry attacked and attacked andSTAB the Moras sword went straight through hischest. Tom saw it as if it was happening in slow motion. Blood raised in hismouth. Tom sank to his knees as he watched the life fade from Kerrys eyes.

    Chapter 10The Power of Will

NOOOOO, Tom screamed. The Mora god fell on him like a fly in a cob web. Kerrystaggered backwards towards the cliff and as he fell his body froze as did everyother virtual thing did.

A beam of white light was projecting from Kerrys head into the virtual sky. Tomwatched as Kerrys human characteristics disappeared, as he turned from a humanlooking character to just another computer generated image.

Tom sank to his knees. He was angry. Kerry wasnt in the game any more. Tom didntknow where he lived. He wanted to thank him for his help in the game.

Tom didnt move. He felt sick.If the pain is real than death is real as well.

Tom couldnt get these words out of his head.He watched as the beam of light faded and the virtual corpse fall over the cliff, downwards, towards the far off ground.

The world defrosted. The Mora god rose and turned towards Tom as if no time hadpassed at all. Tom raised his sword and ran towards the old lady. CLING, CLANG,CLASH. Without Kerry the full attention of the Mora was on Tom.

NO he mustnt think of Kerry, Kerry was dead now. And with this horror and angerhe raged at the god driving in like a bee. Slip, Toms sword missed and he felt acold blade slice through his gut.

Tom fell to his knees and heard the clutter of his metal sword hitting the stone

platform. Tom looked down at his gut but couldnt scream in pain when the swordwas drawn out. Blood was pouring out. Not virtual blood but real.Blood poured out of Tom staining the virtual world. Tom saw in slow motion thesword being driven through his chest. And there the sword remained. Blood rosed inhis mouth and Tom was fading into the darkness.

The pain faded from Toms body. He was falling into bliss, into darkness. NO. Hewas not going to die, not like Kerry had.Light flickered back into his eyes. Once again the virtual world was frozen andthere was a beam of light projecting from Toms head into the blue, motionless sky.

Tom focused his whole will on giving himself health and he felt life return intohis body, hot, runny, honey-like life. Tom felt blood encrusted from his chest tohis feet, but it didnt matter. The skin had healed.

Tom rolled over and lifted himself of the ground and onto his feet. He was weak, very weak. Tom hadnt revived enough health to make him strong, but he had gainedenough to keep himself alive.

The beam of light disappeared and once again he felt that happiness inside himthat wasnt his. He wasnt happy. He had seen a kid die before his eyes and hadhad eye contact with death himself.

Tom picked up his sword and staggered towards the Mora god. Any moment now thegame would unfreeze and the old lady would turn around and slice him to bits. Hewas too weak to fight. And so he concentrated with all his will that the gamewould remain still. It did.

After what seemed a long time Tom reached the Mora god and plunged the sword deepinto her wrinkly, old skin. And there it stayed as the computer game resumed. The Mora God fell down to theground clutching her neck. And there she stayed never to move again. Tom hadfinished the game. He saw the flash of white light as the birds in the treesfroze.

Than another that blinded him, and another. He was going to another game. Hedidnt know how long his virtual journey would go on for. He was too weak to care.Another flash and Tom felt his full strength return. Another flash and once againTom was spinning, spinning through white light.

    Chapter 11Beyond Will

Tom landed gracefully on lush, green grass. He straightened himself up to lookaround but found to his horror that he couldnt move. He tried again but theinvisible force was holding him again. He tried to move his left arm but itwouldnt budge.

Than all of a sudden he was walking towards a cartoony looking house. Tom felt abit hungry and bored and he found himself walking through a house door. Tom waswalking against his will. Before he knew it he had turned a corner into a kitchenwith a couple of cupboards, fridge and stove, that was all he could see.

Than all of a sudden he had pulled the fridge door open and pulled out a cutting-board. And than he was away, chopping and cutting, making some kind of dinner thatlooked like spaghetti.

Whatever force that was holding Tom against his will was not a good chef? Tom keptburning his fingers on the bowl. He tried to yell but couldnt move his mouthmuscles. When the boiling water spilled, it burned into Toms arm like a hot redpoker.

Than the meal was on plates and Tom was walking towards a table where a family

sat, waiting for their meal. After Tom had served the meal, he sat down with thefamily and began to eat.

Tom felt better as the hot food trickled into his stomach. Every now and again Tomwould lift his head and talk in a Gibberish language to the family which consistedof a pink sweated woman and a red shirted kid.

Then Tom understood. He was in the Sims, an RPS real life game. But this time he

was not a side viewer, he was the main character.

As soon as Tom finished his meal he got up, pushed his chair in and walked up thestair case towards a pool table. And then he played, and as he played he felt joyreturn to him which pushed the boredom away. Eventually the lights came on and thesun outside disappeared.

When this happened, Toms character straitened up and started walking downstairsand outside towards a pool. As Tom reached the pool he swirled around, and all ofa sudden he was wearing swimmers.

Tom dived into the icy cold water of the pool. And there he stayed, treadingwater. For the whole time Tom had been along for the ride. But the moment he had

hit the icy cold waters, his mind awoke. There was something fishy about thismidnight swim.

Tom looked around the pool. The force turned him around in a circle. And theterrible truth came as it did so. The person who had trapped Tom in the game, whohad tried to kill him, was not giving up. There was no ladder in the pool. Tom wastrapped in a pool with no way of getting out.

Tom looked across the dark yard and saw the woman walk out, grab a plate and walkback inside. Than she came out running, snatched up a plate and ran back into thehouse. Tom looked down at his arms and legs, treading water. They where movingfast, very fast. Time had sped up.

Tom felt his needs drop. He felt hungry and board as his bladder filled up. Butworse of all he felt the thing that would kill him, sleep. Time slowed down as thelights in the house turned of. Tom was engulfed by darkness, darkness so thickthat he couldnt see his fingers.

Than he remembered, the Mora God ripping through his chest, the bliss darkness, the beam of white-light, the battle between him and death. Tom remembered hisfierce will to live. He remembered how it had worked and had even paused the game.

Tom concentrated his whole will against the game. Let the force go, let me free,he thought. Nothing happened. Tom opened his eyes and tried to move his arm. Itwouldnt budge. He tried again, and again, and again, but he couldnt do it. Itwas beyond his will.

Tom yarned. The tiredness was coming, shadows formed around his eyes. Any momentnow and Toms sleeping bar would drop to zero and he would fall asleep, drowningin the water.

A face came out of the shadows. It was Kerrys. Tom remembered the Mora Gods swordplunging into Kerrys chest. He remembered the beam of light, the change in hisimage, but worst of all Tom remembered the words that Kerry had spoken. If thepain is real than the death is real as well. A tear rose in Toms eyes. Kerry hadexited the game. But he wasnt at home right now. Kerry was dead.

    Chapter 13The Lair

Tom rose to his feet and looked around. He was in the pink curtained room. Tomwalked over to the super computer and admired it. He marvelled at the technologythat was on it. But then he saw something else.

Only two of the eight screens where on. The first screen had a design of a city onit but the other had a Sims house on it, the game that Tom had just been in.

There was a rattle and Tom turned around. At the other end of the room was asilver box, like the one that Tom had had at his house, only much bigger. It wasbig enough to hold a fully grown man and the only thing that was on it was a thickcord connecting it to the computer.

Tom looked at the cord and than at the box. That must have been the simulator,he said to himself, and the computer was controlling it. Cool.

Tom spun around. There where footsteps. Someone was coming. Tom backed up againstthe wall. The door opened and a tall, skinny person with black hair came in, theperson who had delivered the package. Hello Tom, he said kindly.

Tom had two emotions inside him. The fact that he had just been in virtual realitywhich had been his dream and the fact that he had struggled for survival the wholetime and had nearly died twice. This is what came bursting out of him.

YOU MONSTER! he screamed, HOW CAN YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT, AND WHAT ABOUTKERRY, YOU KILLED HIM!Calm down Tom, the man said in a strong commanding voice. Tom quieted down. Hemay be brave but in truth the man scared him.Listen Tom, he said in a kind, commanding voice, Im a prisoner just like youokay. I was kidnapped and forced to play the games, and when I survived he forcedme to be his slave.

Whos he? Tom asked. The person who kidnapped us, he likes to be called the master.Im not calling anybody master, said Tom furiously. You will if you want to stay alive, commanded the man warningly. Look he wantsto talk to you okay, just follow me.

Tom followed the man out the door, through the corridor and down the steps. Bywhat Tom could make out they where in a castle. The walls where bare and made of

brick, the corridors where empty and nothing occupied anything.

When they reached a big empty hall, the man led Tom across the corridor andthrough a door. As they went down the set of steps it got colder Tom realised thatit must be a dudgeon. As they reached the bottom they entered a room and Tomrealised it as the room he had seen after San Andreas.

The room had only three things. A sofa, a tall red chair and next to it a tablewith a white orb situated on it. Tom stared at the orb. It was just small enoughto fit in the palm of his hand. As he looked at it he felt drawn to it and warm.He felt courage, power and the fact that he was so invincible that nothing couldtouch him.

The young man came to a halt. The tall red chair spun around and sitting in it wasan aged man with glasses and blonde hair. Tom gasped. Sitting in the chair was theone man who Tom truly admired. Hello Tom, he said smiling with an evil glint inhis eyes. Sitting in the chair was the man who had been missing for three years, the creator of Silisco Corporation, Robert Silisco.

    Chapter 14The Master

You, Tom gasped.Yes me, Robert Silisco, the master to you, the richest person in the world, creator of Silisco Corporation AND virtual reality. So Tom, tell me, how did youlike virtual reality?

Tom stared angrily. What kind of MORON would add death into a game?Arr yes my extra. You see virtual reality is meant to be real, correct, so painand death is real, so why not add that in as well?

Tom stared, unbelieving. A game is meant to be fun, Tom explained.

Yes but virtual reality isnt a game is it, its a reality, a computer generatedreality anyway.

What about Kerry, Tom screamed.Arr yes, Kerry, Silisco replied. He had been in quite a few games before youcame in. See he got majely wounded and couldnt finish the game. So I made a dealwith him. I put him in the Mora game, another one of my brilliant creations, andhe can either win and go home or fight to the death. But as he was about to die Ientered you into the game, which restarted it and gave him a third chance.

    You killed him, Tom yelled.

    20/23

No Tom, shouted The Master, You killed him. He sacrificed his puny little lifeto give you another chance.NO YOUR STUPID GAME KILLED HIM, Tom screamed

The billionaire rose to the end of his chair but decided not to and calmed backdown. Tom, The Master said calmly, sit on the sofa and Ill get to my point.

Tom walked over to the sofa and sat down, his legs where quite sore and hesuddenly felt very hungry.Jacob, Silisco snapped get us some drinks.Jacob who had been standing still and upright the whole time snapped out of hisdaydream.Yes Sir, he replied and walked out of the room.

Tom was once again staring at the orb. It made him feel so powerful andprotective. It was like some addictive drug. You can feel it to Tom, I know it.Tom looked up.Hu.

The Master waved his hand over the orb and shudded. Its Kratos, The Master replied, an ancient rock with ancient powers. Only 400gof the rock exists on this planet. See its an alien rock which came from ameteorite that crashed into earth two billion years ago. I researched it for yearsand when I found some on the surface I retired to my island.

Tom looked more closely draining in every inch of power it let out. Every secondhe was getting stronger. Surly he could overpower this Master, surly he couldtake over the world.

It has the power to give out elusions, The Master continued, like what you arefelling now. You do not have any power at all Tom its just one big elusion.

Tom heard these words and his heart exploded. This was no illusion. Whitenessengulfed everything and a new vision came into focus. It was earth. Tom looked atit. He was Master, he owned everything. It was too easy, anything he thought cametrue.

NO! This was an elusion, this wasnt real. The dungeon room came back into focusand the power of the orb faded from Tom.

Bill Gates continued on like nothing had happened. It can make you feel like youhave power and can make things happen which are not really happening at all.So whats the point of it, Tom asked.

You see Kratos has another little ability. If I am to put a little sample, evenif its only one gram big, in a titanium metal box and another sample in anotherthe two will act like a portal transporting youre mind to the other. But with thepower of technology I can pause the transaction and use the Kratos elusions tocreate a virtual world where man kind can live in. There are four orbs on eartheach weighing 100g. I own three of them. There is still one out there some where. The Master got louder and hungrier with every sentence he spoke. Think about it,he yelled maniacally, bombs exploding, trapping peoples minds, the worldbecoming virtual. No diseases or wars, a world where everybody is at my command.

The Master started laughing. Tom backed up in his seat, Robert Silisco had gone

Robert Silisco rose up, shouting in his most powerful voice. How dare you refuse

me nobody refuses me, Jacob grab him.Jacob grabbed Tom and held his arms behind his back. Tom yelled and struggled butJacob was to strong.Im sorry, Jacob pleaded, Im so sorry.Dont apologize, snapped The Master, walking over to Tom.

You have just made the biggest mistake of youre life Tom, yelled the Masterinches away from Toms face.Tom spat in The Masters face.Garr, he yelled wiping the spit of and slapping Tom in the face.We could have ruled the world but instead you were too worried about the orbspower.

Tom looked up at The Master. Robert Silisco looked into Toms eyes and froze. Hethan walked over and grabbed the orb.You want to experience its power, The Master yelled, well here you go.Toms arms and legs sprang together. The last thing he saw was a blinding flash ofwhite light.

    Chapter 15The Prisoner

    March ?

I dont know how long Ive been here it has to be at least a couple of months.Jacob has been kind; he gives me extra food and water. He even gave me this diary.I miss my family and friends. This dungeon cell is mouldy. Ive seen Bill Gatesonce since Ive been here. He threw me a newspaper. Im on the front page, therestill looking for me. But worst of all my parents have been stunned. But I knowthat there in virtual reality right now. They doctors in the newspaper that therein a coma and are unable to move. The only reason Im not in virtual reality rightnow is because Robert Silisco knows I can get out.

    April 15

I know the date know because Jacob gives the paper once a week (hes being heldhere against his will). Im still on every copy. Sometimes my parents are too.

Ive also noticed that Jacobs back in the newspaper too. Its a double kidnappingbecause we both have silver boxes at our houses and both of our parents have beenstunned. But I have to be strong. Everyday I remember the vision and the orbs. Imust wait until they drop the bombs, I must wait until we are all in virtualreality because only then can I defeat them and stop there plan.

I dont know how they did it but they turned the island into a virtual world.Jacob said that if anybody tries to invade the island Silisco will be able to doanything he wants to them. Its a security thing. I also know the reason why my

parents have been stunned. They walked in as I was being kidnapped. The Masterdidnt want them to know anything, so he trapped there minds in virtual reality. Its the same for Jacobs.

    June 26

That sleaving lying bastard. I found out the truth. He made my parents see thelight. It happened long after I was gone. He trapped my parents mind deliberately, but not only that, he did the same to Jacobs as well. They have finished thevirtual simulator. There starting on the bombs. Its not long now until I can gointo virtual reality and defeat Bill Gates and finally Jacob and I can have ourlives back. I got some knowledge on how it works. The bomb drop and projects thewhite light. This transports peoples minds, but not there body, into another

dimension and the virtual simulator projects an image into there minds which canalso create pain. But its light (Kratos power) also feels the shape of thesurroundings and traps the image of the world into the simulator as well. BillGates will be able to control the simulator from the inside with a Kratos

    July 1

I found out why I saw a person on my computer screen. It turns out that anybodywho brought the Zombie War game got a virus transported back here, than its justa matter of dropping the box off. But I am different. Kratos are alien rocks withpowers. And they chose me. We where playing the same game at the same time, so theKratos sent the vision of Kerry onto my computer screen. Because of that I wasable to survive virtual reality, because of that I knew what to do.

    August 20

Its my birthday today. Jacob came down today to bring me a birthday cake. I dontknow how he gets past The Master but all the same hes a nice change since RobertSilisco has been delivering my things for the last couple of months. Not much hashappened, but doomsday looms.

    September 6- Judgement Day

Todays the day. The simulators ready and the bombs are loaded. Its not longuntil they fire the bombs and everybody will be trapped in virtual reality. Its afternoon. The alarms are going off. I dont really know whats going on. I

dont know whether its the F.B.I or just a curious onlooker. All I know issomeone has intrudedSomeone is coming
