AWord with the Readers,

We are pleased to present you the 6th Issue of eNewsletter with all updates of the firsthalf of 2019 about FAMT. We especially seek to share that FAMT has been accreditedby NAAC. FAMT has set another milestone by establishing the First ResearchCentre in Information Technology in Konkan and affiliated to University ofMumbai. We are certain that you will be glad with these updates and extend yoursupport to FAMT to be a Centre of Excellence.

The first half of 2019 had been quite eventful for FAMT. The major and noteworthyevents were: Visit of NAAC Peer Team, Founder’s Day, Utopia & Brainwaves 2K19,Best Project Competition and Annual Sports 2k19. Further, the prominentacademicians and the industry experts had interactions with our students. It is aprivilege for us to have them on our campus. The students also set their footprintsfrom the 7 university ranks to winning the local to national competitions. Meanwhile,it was also a parting time for our graduating batch of 2018-19 who will certainly bethe torch bearers in different facets of life.

We congratulate the university rank holders and the graduating batch of 2018-19 andwish them a very bright future. We also congratulate all the faculty and studentachievers for their success in different arenas and bringing glory to FAMT. Weappreciate and thank everyone for extensive support and look forward for yourcontinuous engagement with FAMT.

AccomplishmentsFAMT was awarded B++ Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC). NAAC Peer team visited FAMT on 25 to 26 March. NAAC is an autonomous bodyestablished by University Grants Commission (UGC), India to assess and accredit institutions ofhigher education in the country as per the recommendations of the National Policy in Education(1986) which laid special emphasis on upholding the quality of higher education in India. NAAChas identified seven criteria as the basis of its assessment procedure.

FAMT won National Edu – ShineExcellence Award for the MostProgressive Institute Serving inRural India at 12th ASSOCHAMHigher Education Summit 2019 inpresence of the Former President ofIndia Shri. Pranab Mukherjee andHonorable Minister Shri. Suresh Prabhuon 21 February.

FAMT received the prestigious Higher EdAwards for 2019 Best Industry – AcademiaInterface Award (West) in HigherEducation Category backed by EdTech Reviewon 15 February at Bengaluru. Dr. Sanjay B.Kulkarni (Dean Faculty) received the award atthe hands of Shri. Gaurav Jain, Principal,Kaizen PE.

FAMT won Indian Education Awards2019 for Excellence and Innovation inEngineering from NoPaperForms on 12February. Prof. Sachin S. Mestry received theaward at the hands of Ms. Ritu Marya, Editor InChief of Entrepreneur, APAC and India; Mr.Naveen Goyal, Founder & CEO-NoPaperForms; and Mr. Suraj Sapra, ChiefStrategy Officer - NoPaperForms.

FAMT stood 150th in India Today Top 200 Private Engineering Colleges 2019Rankings. FAMT is the only college in Konkan region which secured 7th Rank among MumbaiUniversity affiliated institutes and 18th Rank in Maharashtra.

Dr. Terence K. Johnson, AssociateProfessor and HOD, Department ofMCA, FAMT, received EmergingLeader Award2019 on 5 January at2nd Higher Education Leadership Meet(HELM 2019) for his contribution in thediscipline of Engineering by VenusInternational Foundation, Chennai. Theaward was presented to Dr. Terence K.Johnson by Professor Dr. HanyDowidar, Abu Dhabi University UAEand Professor Dr. Debadatta Panigrahi,RAK Medical and Health SciencesUniversity, UAE.

Team Metadors of FAMT won All IndiaFirst Rank in National TechnocratElectric Go-kart RacingChampionship 2019 held at Bhopal(Madhya Pradesh). Kushal Choudhary andhis team Matadors performedexceptionally well and grabbed FirstPrize of Rs 1,50,000/-.

It was organized by Technocrat Institute ofTechnology in association with the Societyof Automotive Engineering, India.

Prof. Hemant V. Chavan, Assistant Professor inMechanical Engineering, FAMT, receivedAppreciation Award for his exceptionalcontribution as a Student Branch Advisor byASHRAE Mumbai Chapter for the year 2018-19.He received the award at the hands of Mr.Shankar Sapaliga, President, ASHRAE MumbaiChapter at ASHRAE Mumbai Chapter BOGInstallation Ceremony on 21 June.

Shridhan Panchal (B.E. Mechanical) andSoham Zapadekar (F.E. Mechanical) wonSecond Prize in Technical PaperPresentation Competition. The duopresented on ‘Radiant Cooling’ at Turbo 2K19,a national techfest held at Gharada Instituteof Technology, Khed on 16 and 17 March.

Team MechMasters was selected in the FinalRound of Smart India HackathonHardware Edition 2019 (SIH-2019).SIH-2019 is organised to seek solutions forthe industry problems and is held by All IndiaCouncil for Technical Education (AICTE) andMHRD, Government of India. Rushikesh Dale,Parth Makadia, Omkar Sagavekar, GovindWalavalkar and Ashwini Vaidya (MechanicalEngineering) were part of the team.

Rushikesh Govind Dale, (B.E. Mechanical)performed exceptionally well and wondifferent national, state and districtCompetitions. He secured Second Rank inthe National Global Youth Parliamentheld at Sanjay Ghodawat University,Kolhapur among 50 participants fromdifferent states. Rushikesh Dale also securedSecond Rank in the District YouthParliament and qualified for the StateYouth Parliament which was organized by theMinistry of Youth Affairs and Sports –Government of India on 27 January, atNavnirman College, Ratnagiri. He secured

16th Position among 500 participants in State CM CHASHAK Campus AmbassadorCompetition. He also won Best Debater Award in the district level Debate Competitionorganized by the Election Department of Collector Office, Ratnagiri on account of NationalVoters’ Day. Rushikesh Dale won First Prize in District Level Elocution Competitionheld at Buddha Vihar, Lanja, Ratnagiri on the occasion of Buddha Pournima.

Interactions with Experts

A One day Workshop on AdditiveManufacturing was organized on 05January, for Mechanical Engineeringstudents. Dr. B. B. Ahuja (Director,COE,Pune) and Dr. Arati Mulay (AssociateProfessor, Production & IndustrialManagement Dept., COE,Pune) delivered thetalk. Dr. B. B. Ahuja briefed on themanufacturing approaches which involveflexibility and reliability.

A Guest Lecture on Electrical SystemDesign was organized on 23 January forB.E. Electrical students. Shri. ShaileshDeshpande, Srujan Consultant, Pune,delivered the talk. He is an expert in the fieldof Power System Studies, Plant ElectricalDesign, Load Flow Analysis, Estimation andTendering. Shri. Nandkumar Patwardhan,Shri Krishna Traders (An IndustrialElectrical Goods Supplier) was also present.

A Seminar on National Programme onTechnology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), anonline learning portal by MHRD, Government ofIndia, was conducted by the Department ofElectronics & Telecommunication Engineering on 25January for E&TC students.Prof. N. S. Sakhalkar and Prof. S. D. Mainkarintroduced NPTEL, and its significance in enhancedlearning process.

A Seminar on Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) was arranged by theDepartment of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. Mr. Paresh Gugade, ImperialInstitute of Excellence, Pune conducted it on 29 January.

First Year Engineering Students’ Association(FESA) organized a Guest Lecture onCoast Guard and Career Opportunitieson 29 January.Mr. Jagsharan Gautam and Mr. SatyapalSingh, Indian Coast Guard, Ratnagiri,interacted with F.E. students.

A Workshop on Energy Audit wasorganized by the Department of ElectricalEngineering from 04 to 05 February. Mr.Ajitkumar Datar, a Certified Energy Auditor,INDESCO, Mumbai and Mrs. A. A. Datar,Lecturer and Lawyer, Thane Law College,Mumbai were invited for the workshop.

The Department of Chemical Engineering helda Seminar on Personality Development& Interview Techniques on 19 February.Mr. Rajeev Jambhekar, HR Manager, VinatiOrganics Ltd. interacted with the third andfinal year Chemical Engineering students.

The Department of Mechanical Engineeringconducted a Seminar on ResponseSurface Methodology BasedOptimization on 06 March for the thirdyear Mechanical Engineering students.Dr. V.P. Rathod, Head of MechanicalEngineering Department, GovernmentPolytechnic, Ratnagiri, briefed the studentson the optimization techniques commonlyused in engineering applications.

EngineeringWorks, Mirjole MIDC, Ratnagiri. Mr. J. A.Jaygade of M/s J. J. Engineering Worksinteracted with the third and final yearMechanical Engineering students.

Innovation andEntrepreneurship DevelopmentCell invited Mr. Milind Datar,an experienced trainer for athree days EntrepreneurshipAwareness Program from13 to 15 March.

Research Development &Consultancy Committee held aWorkshop on IntellectualProperty Rights on 15March. Mr. Dhruv Brahmbhatt,Managing Director and Ms.Pooja Menon, COO of MyCraveConsultancy conducted theworkshop for the students ofFAMT.

Research, DevelopmentConsultancy Cell, arranged aWebinar on India FirstLeadership Talk Series -Future of TechnicalEducation in India by Dr. AnilD. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AllIndia Council for TechnicalEducation. It was organized on 22April by AICTE-MHRD'sInnovation Cell to address theyoungsters and to provide careerorientation. Dr. Abhay Jere, ChiefInnovation Officer, MIC, MHRD,

Government of India, was in conversation with Dr. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe.

FAMT Remote Centreheld a PythonWorkshop forTeachers andResearch Scholars incollaboration with IITBombay on 22 June.The workshop wasorganized by TeachingLearning Centre (TLC) atIIT Bombay under thescheme of Pandit MadanMohan MalaviyaNational Mission onTeachers and Teaching(PMMMNMTT), an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Governmentof India at about 180+ Remote Centers (RC) across India including FAMT Remote Centre.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an Orientation Programme onManagement Studies on 29 March. Mr. Ashish Sawant, alumnus, interacted with T.E.Mechanical students.

ISTE Approved STTP onOpen Source Solutions inTeaching LearningProcess was held from 24 to28 June for the faculty by theDepartment of InformationTechnology.

Extension ActivitiesFAMT celebrated Founder’s Day- 2019 on Birth Anniversary of Late Shri P. P. Chhabria,Founder President, HOPE Foundation. The students and staff paid tribute to the belovedFounder President. The student associations with the support of the faculty and students tookactive part in contributing to the welfare of local community in nearby villages and Ratnagiri city.The efforts of FAMT students and faculty were well appreciated by all.

The Department of ElectricalEngineering observed Electric SafetyWeek with Electric SafetyCampaign as a part of Founder’s DayCelebration. Electrical Engineeringstudents approached 1515 students of 11institutes (schools and colleges) inRatnagiri and surrounding villagesfrom 11 to 17 January throughpresentation and interaction sessionson Electric safety measures.

A Programme Planet or Plastic was organized by Mechanical Engineering Students Association(MESA) on 16 January for raising awareness on harmful effects of plastic on environment and toprovide economically viable solutions to replace plastic. MESA representatives demonstratedpaper bag making with origami in different schools. The paper and recycled craft paper bags weredistributed to the vendors in Ratnagiri to encourage use of paper bags instead of plastic bags.

Electrical Engineering Students Association and thefaculty members of Electrical Engineeringdepartment held a Ratnadurg Fort CleaningDrive in association with Ziddi Mountaineering,Ratnagiri on 27 January to contribute in theconservation of historical monuments and thecultural heritage of India.EESA members disposed the garbage collected fromthe site with the help of Ratnagiri MunicipalCorporation.

Electrical Engineering students in association with the Department of Lifelong Learning andExtension (DLLE), held a Digital India Campaign from 11 to 15 February anddisseminated the information on Digital transactions, Cashless system and BHIM App atnearby residential societies, shopping complexes and villages. The students demonstrated themodes of cashless transactions like cheque, NEFT/RTGS, Internet banking, mobile/SMSbanking and BHIM application on android phones.

Books Donation to Schools and Remand Home was made in Zilla Parishad PurnPrathamik Shala, Pomendi, and Someshwar; and Remand Home, Ratnagiri on 13 February.Dr. Kaushal Prasad, Prof. P. S. Soman and Prof. P. V. Sathe visited Remand Home and theseZ. P. Schools.

Utopia & Brainwaves 2k19, the annual fests of technical and non-technical events, wereorganized from 17 to 19 February. Ms Kruti Jain, the Chief Guest and Director Kumar UrbanDevelopment Pvt. Ltd; Mr. Mayur Vora, the Guest of Honour and Director, Mapro Foods Pvt.Ltd. and Aruna M. Katara, President, HOPE Foundation, presided over the inauguralceremony.

Honorable President Ms. Aruna Katara addressed the annual social gathering and awardedthe prizes and scholarships on the occasion. The inaugural ceremony was followed by aseries of technical and cultural activities for three days entirely planned and managed by thestudents.

Ms Kruti Jain, the Chief Guest and DirectorKumar Urban Development Pvt. Ltd,highlighted in her address to students that itis imperative to change ourselves for theever-changing worlds.

Sports 2K19, an inter-department annual sports fest, was held in January and inauguratedby Dr. Kaushal Prasad. The students ofMechanical Engineering won ChampionsTrophy 2k19. The winners were felicitated atAnnual Sports Prize DistributionCeremony on 19 February.

Technocrat 2K19 was arranged byITSA from 14 to 15 February.It was inaugurated in presence of Dr.Kaushal Prasad, Principal; Dr.Vinayak Bharadi, Head of ITdepartment, the faculty membersand students.Technocrat 2k19 included technicalevents - Blind Coding, Time Trigger,Google It, PPT Presentation,Treasure Hunt etc. Technocrat 2k19was more fun with inclusion of aFun-Fair.

Electrofocus 2K19 was organized byElectronics Students TechnicalAssociation (ESTA) from 14 to 15February.Dr. Kaushal Prasad, Principal,inaugurated the tech-fest. MECHNOFIESTA & AUTOZION 2K19, held from 14 to 15 February by MechanicalEngineering Students Association, was a huge success.

Research Development & ConsultancyCommittee, FAMT conducted two separateDepartment wise Best Project AwardCompetitions 2018-19 for B.E. studentsand F.E. to T.E students.62 B.E and 21 Teams from F.E to T.E.participated in the competitions which aimedat enhancing the quality of projects,promoting innovative ideas and researchculture in the academy.
