VERY BEGINNING BAND INSTRUMENTATION GARAGE BAND Featuring various Hand Tools MICHAEL STORY (ASCAP) NOTES TO THE CONDUCTOR Garage Band is a fun novelty piece that features hand tool sounds. It is written for students in the second semester of their first year in band, or any time during their second year. The piece features hammers, socket wrench and electric drill; however, any tool that creates a sound may be used—be creative! Of course, safety is the primary concern when using hand tools—be sure that each student understands the proper use for each tool. The hammers may be used by driving nails into a board, or more easily by just pounding on the board itself. The socket wrench can be played by attaching a large socket and twisting the ratchet to create the rhythms. When using the electric drill, please remove the drill bit.
