We, as Vestel, consider it a sense of corporate responsibility to contribute to all segments of society that are unable to fully participate in social life due to economic, social or physical barriers. To that end, we develop and carry out various projects and endeavors to help people access information and technology as well as beneficial products and services. We believe that our lives prosper more when equal opportunities are offered to all individuals of society and we embrace growth by sharing with society as one of our fundamental convictions.

In line with this vision, we are accomplishing numerous innovative applications within a comprehensive range under the concept of an “Accessibility Program” from manufacturing to sales points and from employment to social investments, for the purpose of reaching all individuals of society. We compile our Accessibility Program under 4 main topics: • Accessible business life • Accessible products • Customer satisfaction • Corporate social responsibility projects

We are working for equal opportunityfor everyone

428 people with disabilities are employed within our group. Our employees include the visually impaired, hearing impaired, people with disabilities due to internal diseases and neuropsychiatric reasons, and the orthopedically disabled. They are all in charge of various positions in various locations within our corporation.

stop and option selection by means of the smartphone or tablet in accessibility mode. Furthermore, our user with a disability can track information such as product running time and program remaining time on the application. In addition to all these, product usage videos for hearing impaired users are also available accordingly. Our users with hearing impairment can obtain detailed information regarding the product by accessing the video through an SMS sent to mobile phones after the installation of the product with narration prepared in sign language related to the usage and characteristics of the product.

Accessibility of Televisions Thanks to the Braille Alphabet incorporated in the remote controls of Vestel’s televisions, visually impaired users are capable of switching their television on and off and changing the volume or the channels without being hindered or requiring the help of others.

In addition, thanks to the Vestel audible control application, users with disabilities are capable of using basic control functions on Vestel Smart televisions by using the audible command function of the mobile application and can receive audible feedback from the relevant application related to the process they perform. The users, with the commands such as “Turn up the volume,”, “Increase the Volume”, “Turn Down the Volume or Decrease the Volume”, “Mute or Switch off the Volume”, can adjust the volume of their Vestel Smart TV and with the commands such as “Previous Channel or Decrease the Channel” and “Next Channel or Increase the Channel”, can change the channels. Besides, for national channels, users can access the relevant channel by speaking out the name of the channel. They can also access the HDMI connection to access the sources connected to the television by the commands “Source 1-Source 2”.

The entire work and endeavors performed for the development of Vestel products, services, and technology that are usable and accessible by people with disabilities are compiled under the roof of “Accessible Products”. Products we develop for this purpose are as follows:

Accessibility of Home AppliancesWe have utilized an engraving application of the Braille alphabet on the control panels of our conventional products such as dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators, ovens and stovetops. This application is a system that has the characteristics to enable our domestic appliances to be used by all visually impaired people and was developed by means of Vestel’s technological infrastructure and manufacturing strength. Thanks to this accessible products application, each button and program/function on lexan is defined with the Braille alphabet letters and descriptions corresponding to these letters are explained by a separate express operator’s manual. Online QR codes are incorporated on Lexans prepared to redirect to “vestel.com.tr”. Thus, it is possible for users to download the iOS/Android audible guide application prepared for the entire product group on users’ tablets or smartphones by scanning these 2d-codes for service installations for their products. The users, when required, can run the applications at any time and access audible information regarding the operating of the product. Thanks to our recent activation of this application, Vestel’s smart products can be controlled through smartphones or tablets by means of audible commands and audible response. When a user with a disability activates the accessibility mode of the products, Vestel’s smart home applications designed in compliance with the accessibility mode shall also assume this mode. Thus, the user shall be capable of using numerous functions such as start, hold,

The V3 5040 2GB model of Venus, Turkey’s first smart phone, operates with the accessibility mode for visually impaired users once taken out of its package. Visually impaired users or users with low vision can easily use their smartphones through the accessibility applications available on the device. Furthermore, Google’s Talkback application on Venus V3 5040 2GB facilitates the lives of visually impaired smartphone users through the automatic audible versions of menu options and text boxes on the smartphone screens.

A visually impaired user of Venus V3 5040 2GB can activate the Talkback by pressing on both the “volume turn on/turn off” buttons for three seconds without needing any help from others. Thus the visually impaired user can set up and use the smartphone as soon as s/he takes it out of its box without needing any help from others. Additionally, everything has become more comprehensible and clear thanks to the Talkback application with the Turkish language support we incorporated.

The new product “WeWalk” born in the Unhindered Hackathon mutually developed by Young Guru Academy and Vestel/Vestel engineers within the context of our Accessibility Program is a smart walking stick developed for the purpose of facilitating the lives of visually impaired people and enhancing their freedom of movement with the support of cutting-edge technology. WeWalk, equipped with the cutting-edge technology mutually developed by Young Guru Academy and Vestel engineers for visually impaired people offers three characteristics such as obstacle detection, integration with smartphones and an open platform.

Vestel, providing substantial support to new projects for the purpose of providing equal opportunities through technology to each individual’s lives, opened the doors of Vestel City and its entire know-how and fund of knowledge to YGA entrepreneurs during the process of development of WeWalk. The industrial, software and hardware designs and prototyping work and endeavors of WeWalk with its design and production foundation laid in Vestel City were also performed together with the volunteer engineers of YGA in Vestel. Vestel, assuming the initial investment and mass production costs of WeWalk proceeding to the pilot production, ensures that the product will be delivered to users with the lowest cost possible upon quality approvals.

Vestel, acting with the principle of unconditional customer satisfaction, continuously develops new applications so that people with disabilities do not encounter any problems or hindrances when receiving services from both customer service and stores. For this purpose, the web site www.vestel.com.tr is vocalized within the Accessibility Program. Visually impaired people are capable of listening to any information regarding the products and campaigns or the entire purchasing stages. Additionally, when people with disabilities wish to use Vestel products with the Braille Alphabet, they can call customer service and request the installation of lexan on their current products at home free of charge

The concept of creating values for society and sustaining the values together lie behind our fundamental business strategy. We are aiming to provide resources and opportunities especially for young generations in the areas where support is limited through long-term social contribution projects in line with our core values of sustainability. As such, we will continue to develop future-oriented social projects to reflect our perfectionism. Our “Equal Opportunity” project, realized with this objective in mind, was brought to life in 2015. The project came to fruition when students of Izmir Kınık Special Education Vocational High School gave favorable feedback after watching a video prepared in sign language by 2 of our employees who had graduated from the same school. According to a survey conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institution regarding citizens with disabilities; 43% of people with hearing impairment would like to have their opportunities and facilities increased. When we became aware of the fact that only 10% of the graduates of special education

vocational schools were able to find a job, we realized the importance of the project once more. We are reaching out to all the graduates of 19 Special Education Vocational High Schools and offering them job opportunities within the scope of the project.Currently, the number of our employees with hearing impairment is 140. We do not have any restrictions on employment within the project context. As Vestel, our goal is to reach the hearing impaired graduates of all Special Education Vocational High Schools. We evaluate the Equal Opportunity project as an independent subject of compulsory employment of people with disabilities recruited through İŞKUR (Turkish Employment Agency). We are conducting special endeavors and work with specialists for the technical wording used in our manufacturing premises that are not within sign language. Besides, thanks to the education module of the Vestel Unhindered Academy, it is feasible for the educational process of the employees to be initiated at school prior to their arrival to the factory.

Our work and endeavors performed for providing support to our citizens with disabilities are not limited to the “Equal Opportunity” Project. We also offer job opportunities to young people with Down Syndrome and mental disabilities determined to tackle the obstacles and hindrances through the project “Within Life” that we developed for the purpose of offering them various job opportunities and enabling them to be active in professional life.

Just Give a ChanceAs Vestel, we are aiming to provide support to children with disabilities to tackle obstacles and hindrances they encounter in their social lives by means of projects we accomplish together with Manisa ZİÇEV (Foundation for Raising and Protection of Children with Mental Deficiencies). Within the project of “Just Give a Chance” providing a natural educational area, values such as problem solving, sharing, being productive and creative are taught to children and provides contribution to their personal development.
